*Chapter Thirty Six*
"Davina? What are you doing here?" Claire asks as the young adult walks up to her. "Not that you're never welcome here, this is your home as well. I just figured you'd be out with your friends longer"
"Yeah, I guess I'm just having a harder time reconnecting with them than I thought" Davina admits shrugging.
"Have a seat," Claire motions to the rocking chair beside her. "Tell me what's going on" Davina sighs sitting beside her. She takes a moment to collect her thoughts and Claire doesn't react.
"Monique... she's being..." Davina struggles to find the right words.
"A bitch?" Claire suggests. Davina laughs and slowly nods.
"Yeah, a bitch" Claire grins slightly.
"And this is Sophie's niece right?" Claire asks. Davina nods slowly. "Well, bitchiness must be a family trait" Davina smirks lightly. "Is she the only one giving you trouble?"
"No" Davina shakes her head. "They all are. They're following Monique's lead. It's like she's taking over, she's not like she used to be. She talks like she has a direct connection to the ancestors."
"Really?" Claire asks and Davina nods.
"The rest of the coven, they look up to her. Believe her. So, when she doesn't like me, no one does" Davina mutters looking down at her lap.
"Fuck em" Claire says nonchalantly. Davina glances at her. "Things are different now. They changed the moment they chose you for the harvest. From that moment, everything changed. But it doesn't all have to be for the bad"
"Right now, it seems like everything just keeps going down hill" Davina whispers.
"I know" Claire says reaching over. Davina glances at her as Claire holds onto her hand. She gives Davina's hand a light squeeze. "Before I met the Mikaelson's I lived a normal life" Claire says leaning back into the rocking chair letting go of her hand. "I was blissfully unaware of anything supernatural but of course, that all changed. The Mikaelson's changed and my life changed. I lost friends, I lost family but the down slope didn't last forever. I gained new friends, new family and my life is better now"
"So, I lose the respect and friendship of my coven..." Davina mumbles.
"And you gain the respect and friendship of the most powerful family in the world" Claire tells her. "I'd say that's one hell of a trade" Claire shrugs. Davina gives her a smile. "I could adopt you but you're what? 19?" Claire asks and Davina slowly nods.
"You'd adopt me?" Davina asks frowning her eyebrows.
"If it made you feel accepted, if you needed more proof that you're apart of the family. Yeah," Claire nods. "But seeing that we can't adopt you, we can always just induct you into my coven" Claire tells her. "No offense, but we're probably better than yours" Davina laughs nodding. "Besides, we could use another member. Penelope is running around with Kai, I have no idea where either of them are. Bonnie's off creating her own family with Jamie, she won't be as involved with the coven. Jim's been MIA for a while, we're trying to find him. Point is, we're got open spots" She says grinning at her. "It's up to you"
"I'd love too" Davina nods. "Besides, there isn't going to be much of the French Quarter Coven if they keep spurting on about the ancestors."
"What do they talk about?" Kol asks walking out onto the deck having been eavesdropping on the conversation.
"Just how they're doing the ancestor's bidding" Davina shrugs. Kol glances at Claire.
"Are they now?" Kol asks looking back at Davina. She nods.
"Monique says that they talk through her, give her tasks and stuff like that. I don't know of what" Davina adds before he can ask.
"Interesting" Kol mutters walking back into the house.
"Kol" Claire calls at him. She sighs and looks at Davina. The young witch stands and helps her stand up. Claire huffs resting her hand on her stomach before waddling into the house after Kol. "Kol" She says again before he can leave. "What are you doing?"
"Finishing off the Coven, apparently the little warning Enzo and I gave weren't enough" Kol says. Claire looks hesitant. "Angel, if they're doing the ancestors bidding, how long until they attack? We're not exactly on good terms with the ancestors if you don't remember"
"I remember" Claire mutters.
"Look, you don't have to do anything. I'll take care of this, alright? Let me handle it" Kol says kissing her forehead. "You want our family safe, I want our family safe, the only way to keep them safe is to get rid of the threats. The Quarter coven has been a thorn in our side since we got here, I'm just removing the thorn and burning the bush"
"Ok" Claire nods. Kol smirks maliciously.
"That's my girl" He kisses her head. "I'll see you when I'm done" He disappears making her sigh. She knew he was more than capable to handle the coven on his own but that didn't stop her from worrying.
"He's going to kill them, isn't he?" Davina asks from behind her.
"Yeah" Claire nods turning towards her. "He just trying to keep us safe... in the past, when we didn't act first, when we waited too long, it ended badly for us."
"Kol said you weren't on good terms with the ancestors" Davina speaks up.
"Let's just say we've been defying them for years" Claire says. "They hate us almost as much as we hate them" Davina's eyes burn with curiosity but she doesn't ask. "Thing is, there isn't much we can do against old spirits," Claire shrugs. "So, when the opportunity arises to take a jab at them, we take it"
"Well, I'm glad I got out when I could" Davina says with a small smile. Claire smiles at her.
"I hope you still trust us" Claire says.
"Of course, I know you're capable of mercy, I've seen it. You're a good leader," Davina nods walking closer to her. "Take the good with the bad" Davina says grabbing her hand. "I trust you" Davina reassures. Claire smiles and pulls her into a hug.
"Everything's gonna be alright, Davina" Claire assures her. Davina smiles and tightens her hold around her.
"Can I stay here?" Davina asks pulling away from her.
"Of course, there's more than enough space" Claire nods. "Go find an empty room" She nods to the upstairs. Davina nods and walks up the the steps.
"So, we have another addition to the family" Elijah says walking over to Claire. She turns to him and smile.
"A useful addition" Claire adds and Elijah nods.
"How are you feeling?" He asks resting his hands on either side of her stomach. The baby kicks making Elijah smile while Claire simply grows annoyed.
"Ready to have a baby" Claire tells him. He smiles and kisses her forehead. "How's Madelyn?" She asks him.
"She's fine, playing in the barn with the horses and Henrik. She doesn't even remember the dream" He tells her. She sighs with relief happy that Madelyn is playing in the sun. "Hanna's doing more research on it, seeing what she can find on her ability"
"Honestly, I hope it's not an every night thing. I hope it was just a one time, random dream that doesn't mean anything"
"Even if it means something, she'll be alright, we'll make sure of it" Elijah promises kissing her forehead. "But, until then, she's going to live her life like a normal 6 year-old and you are going to relax for the remaining few weeks"
"I don't know how relaxed I can get with this one running around like a track star in my stomach" Claire complains. Elijah smiles and scoops her up in his arms. She giggles and lays her head on his shoulder.
"I love you" Elijah mutters kissing her head as he carries her into the main room. He sits down and she shuffles around until she gets comfortable. His hand rubs her leg soothingly. "I've invited Caitlin and her family here for the remainder of your pregnancy. They'll be staying in a hotel down the street with plenty of activities to keep them busy"
"You spoil me" Claire smiles at him.
"You're mine to spoil" He smiles at her. She lays down on the couch, her head resting on the pillow. She keeps her legs on his lap and he keeps a secure grip around them.
"What about my mother?" Claire asks quietly. "I want her to be here for the birth"
"Then I'll talk to her" Elijah says simply. "I'll fly her down. Do you want her to stay here with us or at the hotel?" Claire sighs slowly as she thinks about it. On one hand she didn't want to seem rude and force her mother to stay at a hotel yet at the same time she felt if Liz stays with them they'd be at each other's throats. However, Caroline's her daughter as well and the two of haven't seen each other in a while, Claire didn't want to be selfish.
"She can stay here" Claire finally decides. Elijah nods. "But keep a hotel room on stand by" She adds after a few moments. Elijah slowly grins as he nods again.
"Whatever you want, Elskan" He squeezes her leg for a moment.
"Mommy! Mommy!" Madelyn shouts skipping into the room. Claire turns her head towards her daughter. "I picked you some flowers" She says holding out two dandelions.
"Thank you, they're beautiful" Claire smiles taking the flowers.
"One for you and one for her" Madelyn says glancing at her stomach. "Do you think she'll like it?"
"I think she'll love it, sweetheart" Claire says tucking some of Madelyn's hair behind her ear. "Here" She whispers tucking on of the dandelions behind her ear. "Wear this one and when your sister is born pick her another one, alright?"
"Ok, mama" Madelyn nods. "Hi papa!"
"Hello, sweetheart" Elijah smiles. Madelyn carefully climbs over Claire's legs and into Elijah's lap.
It didn't take her long to start yapping about her day with Henrik. She talked about the horses and the cats, Kol had gotten her a few more since the fire to cheer her up and calm her down. She then told Elijah and Claire all about the progress going on for the Plantation. Henrik had given her a tour of their new home. It would be done a little bit after Claire gave birth.
Claire laid there on the couch and watched her daughter. She watched as her voice would grow higher withe excitement and her worlds would get mushed together the quicker she talked. Every now and then Elijah would speak up to allow Madelyn to take a subtle break and to actually breathe before continuing with her story.
Claire rested her hand on her stomach as she watched the two of them interact with each other. Madelyn had his complete and undivided attention. She had him wrapped so tightly around her little finger.
'You're gonna be just as spoiled, loved and cherished' Claire thought to herself as she looks down at her stomach with a loving smile.
*Next chapter's gonna be a long one! And the end of season one! Who's excited for some more drama?*
