*Chapter Thirty Five* {The Big Uneasy}
*This is a pretty short, sorry but I'll make the next one longer*
"Klaus?" Claire mumbles waking up. Her hand reaches for him but only feels empty bed space.
"I'm over here, love" Klaus says quietly. Claire rubs her eyes slightly before opening them. She looks around the room and finds Klaus by a canvas with paint all around him.
"You're up early" She comments shifting around for a better position.
"The morning sun offers the best light" He tells her with a small smile. She smiles back watching him drag the brush across the canvas. "I'm almost finished"
"Well, hurry, the bed is far too cold without you" She whispers. His grin deepens as he tries to focus on finishing the painting. "You look happy"
"I am happy" Klaus tells her. "It's a quiet morning and I can feel a shift in the air" He says.
"Oh, really?" Claire asks shifting her head on the pillow.
"Your display of power at the party was beautifully done" Klaus says proudly. "I couldn't have done it better myself"
"I got tired of all the stepping around," She shrugs. "There were so many people conspiring against us. Plotting against us. I don't want to live my life, I don't want our family and our children to live their lives wondering when someone is gonna attack us"
"Well, if anyone tries anything now, they'll be utterly stupid" Klaus says. She smiles at him. "I do believe you have won over the survivors loyalty,"
"I never wanted to force their loyalty like that" Claire whispers.
"Sometimes you don't have a choice" Klaus tells her gently. "You handled it beautifully"
"The remaining werewolves, where are they?" Claire asks.
"There's not many of them" Klaus informed her. "But I talked with them before retiring for the night. I gave them the option to become hybrids or to live the rest of their days out in the bayou"
"And?" Claire asks knowing there was more. Klaus smiles slightly enjoying how well she knows him.
"And I may have asked a few vampires to keep an eye on the werewolves who decided to return to the bayou" He tells her. "I don't exactly trust them to keep to their word about not causing any trouble"
"Although I doubt they have the numbers to do anything, it's good to take precautions" Claire nods. He grins at her.
"Exactly, glad you see it my way" Klaus says with slight smugness. Claire smiles and rolls her eyes at him.
"Are you done? I don't know how much longer my bladder is going to hold" Klaus smiles and nods. He speeds over to her and gently grabs her hands. She grips onto him as she climbs out of bed.
Klaus leaves her to get cleaned up for the day. Once she was ready she wanders over to Madelyn's room. It was still early in the morning, Claire doubted that she'd be awake at this hour. Hell, Claire wished she wasn't awake but now that she's up she knew she wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. Especially with a bouncing baby in her stomach.
Slowly, Claire peaks her head into Madelyn's room. She opens the door wider and leans against the frame with crossed arms. At first glance Madelyn looked peaceful, deep asleep.
However, as Claire got a good look at her daughter she noticed she didn't really look peaceful. Her eyes were screwed shut and her fists were clutching the sheets.
"Maddie?" Claire asks waddling into her room. The closer she got the better she could hear her whimpers. "Hey, Maddie" Claire whispers sitting on the bed shaking her away. Madelyn's eyes snap open and she sits up hyperventilating. "Hey, easy, it's alright"
"Mommy" Madelyn cried trying herself into Claire's arms.
"It's ok" Claire whispers hugging her tightly. "It's alright" Claire rubs her back and glances at the door seeing Kol standing there with a look of concern.
"Uncle Arch's dead" Madelyn whimpered. Claire frowns her eyebrows.
"What? What are you talking about?" Madelyn tightens her grip around her. Claire can feel her trembling.
"I watched it happen" She whispers too quietly for Claire to hear. Kol slowly walks into the room and kneels in front of Madelyn.
"What did you see?" Kol asks gently. Madelyn looks at him while trying to hide within her mothers embrace. "Uncle Archie is just fine" Kol promises her. "He's down stairs having breakfast with Kaleb"
"It was just a dream sweetheart" Claire reassures her. Madelyn shakes her head slowly.
"It was real" Madelyn whispers. Kol glances up at Claire. "He had blue eyes... he was by a lot of lights... he looked sad"
"Blue eyes?" Claire asks looking down at Madelyn.
"Archie has green eyes, baby" Claire whispers. Asher was the one with blue eyes while Archie had green. Claire didn't feel it was necessary to point out that she had the brothers mixed up.
"It was Uncle Arch, mom" Madelyn snapped climbing out of her arms. She pushes her back up against the head board of the bed and hugs her knees to her chest. "He-he had blue eyes... there was lights and he was sad and scared" Madelyn whimpered tears falling down her face. "He was so scared"
"Mad Cat, look at me, darling" Kol mutters softly climbing onto the bed between Claire and Madelyn. Madelyn slowly looks at him. "It's gonna be ok" He says softly while slowly entering her mind. He searched her memories for the dream and when he found it he could feel the fear she was talking about, the sadness. "Why don't you go down stairs and as Papa Finn for some pancakes, you'll see Uncle Archie and he might even let you sit on his lap"
"Ok" Madelyn whispers still shaken from her dream. She climbs out of bed and walks out of the room.
"Kol?" Claire asks frowning her eyebrows. "What is it?"
"She saw Archie" Kol tells her. "He was older, he was a vampire. He had blue eyes and he was in the woods. There were torches and string up lights. He had a stake in his hand and he killed himself"
"Why would she dream something like that?" Claire asks.
"Noah practiced divination right?" Kol asks.
"Yeah, according to Hanna, he was damn good at it too. Like it was second nature to him" Claire explained.
"I think Madelyn's tapped into her magic" Kol tells her. "When I went into her memories I could feel it. It's strong, very strong for someone so young. I think between the power of your magic and his, she's going to be very powerful"
"Her dream, you think it was a vision of the future?" Claire asks him and he nods.
"It felt real, too real to be a simple dream." Kol says. "She could feel what Archie was feeling. He felt... broken but at the same time, right before he stabbed himself, he felt relief. Like a weight was lifted off his shoulders."
"Kol, it doesn't make any sense" Claire tells him. "Blue eyes, being a vampire, suicide?"
"It's the future babe, a lot of things can change" Kol shrugs.
"So, now what?" Claire asks. "Madelyn's just going to start getting nightmares from now on? See people she cares about dying? It'll traumatize her"
"There's not much we can do about it, love" Kol says kissing the side of her head. "Well, keep an eye on her. See if this continues and then we'll see what we can do to keep her from completely losing her mind" Kol tells her simply.
"Comforting" Claire whispers.
"She's going to be fine" Kol reassures her. "If you think I, or any of us, are going to let anything happen to her, you're wrong. She's our daughter too, we'll protect her... Even if it's from her own magic"
"Ok, so what about her vision she just had? About Archie?" She asks him.
"If it comes true, it won't happen for a few years. We'll talk to the others, make a plan on how to avoid it from happening. We'll make sure he doesn't suddenly want colored contacts, keep him from turning into a vampire, that type of thing" Claire slowly nodded slowly.
"Come on, let's get you some breakfast" Kol says standing up. She gives him a small smile and grabs his extended hand. He helps her stand with ease. "Don't worry about, Maddie, alright? She'll be alright"
"I just don't want her to get to the point where she's scared to fall asleep. She had nightmares about Hayley and Tyler kidnapping her for weeks," Claire sighs running her fingers through her hair. "And now this"
"She'll be fine" Kol insists kissing her forehead leading her out of the room. "She's a Mikaelson, she's tough."
