*Chapter Forty Nine* {Wheel Inside the Wheel}
"When is he supposed to get here?" Davina ask, standing beside Bonnie at the crowded airport.
"His flight should have landed by now," Bonnie says, her head swiveling around. Her eyes search through the crowd for the familiar face.
"Can he really help us?" Davina asks. Bonnie glances at her. The two share a look.
"I don't know," Bonnie told her honestly. "I hope he can but it's been a long time since I've seen him,"
"You two grew up together? In Mystic Falls," Davina states. Bonnie nods, a soft smile coming onto her lips. "How did he get involved in everything? Is he a witch or something,"
"No," Bonnie shakes her head. "He's a hunter," Davina arches an eyebrow. "Do you know about Klaus's curse and what he had to do to break it?"
"Of course, we all heard the stories," Davina nods.
"Well, it was his sister that was the doppelganger," Bonnie explained. "A couple years later he became a supernatural hunter, one of the five. That's a long story," Bonnie tells her.
"Isn't the doppelganger dead?" Davina asks. Bonnie chews her bottom lip before slowly nodding.
"Elena killed Kol," Bonnie begins. "Right in front of Claire," She adds. Davina's eyes widen a bit. "Naturally, Claire sought revenge and killed Elena. None of us left on bad terms but it wasn't like it was before,"
"Is Kol going to be ok with this?" Davina asks and Bonnie shrugs.
"It's for Claire and Claire has always cared about him. The last thing any of the Mikaelson's want to do is hurt Claire. They won't hurt him unless it's necessary," Bonnie explains.
"Well, that's a relief," A deep voice behind the witches comments. Bonnie spins around with a wide grin.
"Jeremy!" Bonnie shouts jumping into his arms. Jeremy laughs spinning her around. "Look at you! You're all grown up!"
"I'm not that much younger than you," Jeremy reminds her.
"You'll always be that awkward emo kid in high school," Bonnie teases. Jeremy rolls his eyes. "Although, looks like the kid is growing a beard or trying too at least," Bonnie continues to tease while pulling at his facial hair. Jeremy swats her hand away.
"Why did I agree to come again?" Jeremy jokes. Bonnie rolls her eyes and hugs him a second time. He smiles squeezing her tightly. "I hear your a mom now, congrats,"
"I can't wait for you to meet her," Bonnie says, pulling away. "But until then, this is Davina," Bonnie says motioning to the younger witch. Jeremy turns toward the brunette. His entire expression turns from giddy to astonished.
"H-hi," He stutters, his hand going to the back of his neck.
"Hi," Davina grins, twirling some of her hair. Bonnie raises an eyebrow at the pair of them as she suddenly feels like a third wheel.
"Well," Bonnie clears her throat interrupting their intense staring contest. "Let's get going shall we?"
"You still haven't told me why I'm here," Jeremy says adjusting his bag strap on his shoulder. Davina and Bonnie share a look.
"When was the last time you saw ghosts?" Bonnie asks.
"Ghosts?" Jeremy asks. "Not for a long time, why?" He asks sliding into Bonnie's car.
"There's a possibility that Claire's boys might be on the Other Side," Bonnie says. Jeremy's head snaps toward her. "We need you to see if that's true,"
"Who the fuck told you that?" Jeremy whispers. Bonnie sighs starting the car.
"Esther Mikaelson is back," Bonnie explains driving to the Abattoir. "She's trying to tear down Claire and the Mikaelson's. We caught her and have her in New Orleans. She told Klaus about Theo and Aaron,"
"Does Claire know?" Jeremy asks.
"No, not yet," Bonnie says. "We wanted to check it out, see if it's true before telling her,"
"Probably the smart thing to do," Jeremy whispers. Bonnie hums in agreement. "So, New Orleans? Certainly a step up from Mystic Falls,"
"Lot more trouble too," Bonnie tells him. "It feels like we've been fighting since day one,"
"So, why stay?" Jeremy asks.
"This is where my coven is," Bonnie shrugs. "Where my family is," Jeremy smiles a bit. "It grows on you," She tells him. Jeremy nods before glancing in the back seat.
"So, what's your story?" He asks.
"I was born here," Davina tells him. "I'm a witch and my coven tried to sacrifice me. I escaped but ended up being scarified in the end. Died for a little bit but came back," Jeremy raises an eyebrow but nods.
"Well, I guess you fit right in with us," Jeremy smirks. Davina smiles back before turning her gaze out the window. Jeremy stares at her for a second longer before turning back to the front. "Wow, this place looks pretty cool," Jeremy mutters as Bonnie drives through New Orleans.
"Wait till you see the Plantation," Davina says. Jeremy glances back to her. "It's huge, recently remodeled too,"
"It's where most of us live," Bonnie explains. "Although, I live a little bit down the road,"
"Can't wait to check it out," Jeremy grins. Bonnie pulls up to the Abattoir and the three of them climb out. Jeremy's eyes continue to look around, soaking everything in, while following Bonnie and Davina.
"Jeremy Gilbert," Klaus greets with a grin. Jeremy's head turns towards him.
"Klaus," Jeremy greets stiffly.
"Word of advice," He said, walking up to the hunter. "Don't try to kill me or any of my brothers. You don't have another sister to take your blame," Jeremy's eyes narrow.
"Word of advice," Jeremy responds. "Don't piss off the guy that's trying to help," Klaus smirks a little wider.
"You might just survive in this town," Klaus says. Jeremy doesn't say anything, simply stares into his eyes. Klaus glances to Bonnie and then to Davina before sparing Jeremy one last glance. "Do work quickly," He tells him. "I can only keep Claire in the dark for so long,"
"Well, I could get to work if you get out of my way," Jeremy tells him.
"Are we still in high school?" Bonnie asks. "Or are we gonna be adults and work together?" She asks crossing her arms. Klaus continues to smirk before patting Jeremy's arm.
"You have everything you've requested need upstairs," Klaus says, looking to Bonnie. "If you need anything else, come to me and me alone,"
"I know," Bonnie nods. "Trust us," Klaus hums, his eyes returning to Jeremy's. "We should get started," Klaus nods stepping around Jeremy.
"Find me if-"
"We will," Bonnie assures him. Klaus nods and continues walking away.
"Well, looks like he hasn't changed," Jeremy mutters.
"Come on, we've got some new people for you to meet," Bonnie says, leading him and Davina to the others. Jeremy adjusts his bag strap while following the to witches. Klaus watches them before slipping into the basement where his mother is.
"Niklaus," Esther greets turning to her son. "Have you figured out if I've told you the truth or not?" He doesn't answer. "Well, if you had I would either be talking to Claire or you would be killing me," Esther assumes. She walks toward the edge of the barrier slowly. "You could always just trust me,"
"I don't trust you as far as I could throw you," Klaus says clasping his hands behind his back.
"If you don't trust me and you're not here for Aaron and Theodore, then what are you here for?" Esther wonders tilting her head.
"Why did you bring Mikael back?" Klaus asks. Esther pinches her eyebrows. "What does he have to do with your plan?"
"Nothing," Esther tells him. Klaus rolls his eyes and paces in front of her. "When I was resurrected a small rift formed between this world and the Other Side. A rift that was open for nearly a minute,"
"Nearly a minute?" Klaus questions.
"A lot can happen within 47 seconds," Esther states. Klaus presses his lips together.
"So, you come back to life and dear old Mikael follows you," Klaus grumbles.
"Not only Mikael," Esther tells him. Klaus slows to a stop. His head turns towards her. "A chance to escape the Other Side, 47 seconds, I'm not the only one who took the opportunity of a life time,"
"Who else?" Klaus asks.
"A couple of unimportant people who just happened to be at the right place at the right time," Esther shrugs.
"And?" Klaus asks slowly.
"A couple of men that might suit your interest," Esther says. Klaus growls impatiently. "Your father-"
"We've already discussed Mikael," Klaus rolls his eyes. Esther smiles at him softly.
"Your real father," Esther tells him. "Along with a man named Noah South... I'm sure you'll find them lurking around here somewhere,"
"If there was an opening why didn't Aaron and Theo escape then?" Klaus asks.
"They're children, babies," Esther tells him. "They don't know any better. They need someone to pull them out and I know how,"
"If you're lying-"
"I know," Esther nods. "I know all about your threats and how you plan to follow through with them," Klaus's jaw ticks. "But have you considered the thought that I just might be telling you the truth? Would you still kill me if you find my words to be true?"
"I never intender to kill you," Klaus says. Esther narrows her eyes. "I've already killed you once, a long time ago. Might as well let someone else have that satisfaction," Klaus smirks stepping up to the barrier. "But make no mistake, whether you're telling the truth or not, you will die,"
"If I die for trying to save my family, I will consider it an honorable death," Esther tells him.
"There isn't an honorable bone in your body," Klaus tells her. "You will die and we will make sure you stay dead," Esther smiles solemnly. Klaus stares at her for a moment before walking out of the basement and up to the main floor.
"Papa!" Coming from his thoughts, he sees Madelyn racing towards him. Seeing the wide smile on her face is enough to bring him from the dark thoughts. He feels a small weight lifting off of his chest seeing her smiling, carefree, and safe.
Bending down, Klaus picks her up the moment she's within reach. She giggles loudly as he spins her around, tosses her in the air and catches her in his arms. She wraps her arms around his neck tightly.
"I miss you, Papa," Madelyn whispers. Klaus sighs knowing he's been distant for a little bit.
"I've missed you too, pup," Klaus mutters kissing her forehead. "What did you do at school today?" He asks, resting her on his hip.
"I got an A on my spelling test and I painted a picture and I drank all my milk and I played with my friends and I took a nap and then mommy picked me up from school with Papa Lijah,"
"Wow," Klaus smiles. "You've had a long day," Madelyn nods nestling her head into his neck. His eyes then notice Claire, who's holding Kaylin's carrier, and his brother. "You look beautiful, sweetheart,"
"Beautifully exhausted," Claire jokes adjusting Kaylin. Klaus grins bending down slightly to press their lips together. "What have you been up too?" She asks when they pull away.
"All kinds of things," He whispers with a small smile. Claire frowns her eyebrows as Klaus glances towards Elijah, who's wondered off to give them a moment. "How is he?"
"He's... managing," Claire tells him. "I'm just glad we got to him when we did. If Esther kept him any longer she would have..." Claire sighs lowering her head.
"Hey," Klaus whispers. "He has you and that's all he needs,"
"I'm not all he needs," Claire says lifting her head. "He needs all of us, especially you. He's confused and hurting. Whatever you're doing, take him with you. He needs some brother time,"
"He has three other brothers," Klaus reminds her.
"Yeah but he doesn't share a bond with them like he does with you," Claire says. "You two have a special bond. He needs you,"
"Fine, I'll babysit him," Klaus rolls his eyes. Claire shakes her head amusingly.
"Oh, relax, there are worse things in the world than spending the afternoon with your brother," She says.
"Papa, will you be home to read me a bedtime story?" Madelyn asks.
"Yes, I'll be there," Klaus promises kissing her forehead.
"Maddie, why don't you go show Papa Finn your spelling test?" Claire suggests. "He's upstairs,"
"Ok!" Madelyn shouts wiggling out of Klaus's arms. The pair smile as she darts up the stairs.
"How's our littlest wolf?" He asks looking at Kaylin.
"She's just fine," Claire promises. "She won't get interesting for another few months," She teases. Klaus smiles turning his gaze from his daughter to his mate. "Be safe, whatever you're doing, be safe,"
"I will," Klaus nods kissing her forehead. "Don't worry, you'll know everything soon. I just need more time,"
"I trust you," Claire whispers kissing his lips softly. Klaus caresses her jaw, gazing into her eyes when they pull back. "I love you,"
"I love you, too," He whispers, before walking to Elijah. He claps his suited brother on the shoulder. "Care to join me on an adventure?" Elijah frowns his eyebrows watching his brothers retreating figure before following him.
