*Chapter Eleven* {Tangled Up in Blue}

"Are you out of mind? No way" Sophie Deveraux shakes her head sitting on the couch across from the Mikaelson's. Claire sat in one of the chairs, which is very comfortable, with Klaus standing very close behind her. Finn sits in the chair beside her while Rebekah paces slightly to the side.

"It's very simple," Rebekah tells her. "We need you to perform a teeny, tiny locator spell to help us find a teenage girl"

"Witches who practice magic in this town get caught, and then they get killed" Sophie scoffs. "I'm not an idiot, you have your own coven in this very house, why don't they do it?" Sophie asks glaring at Claire.

"I'd watch your tone if I were you" Finn growled. Claire reaches over and grabs his hand, giving it a comforting squeeze.

"We've been working very hard to gain Marcel's trust. To infiltrate his inner circle" Claire begins. "If he finds out we're going magic, all of that will be lost and things will turn bloody very quickly," Claire told her. "Listen to our plan and then follow it," Claire said sternly. This time it's Finn who's giving her a comforting squeeze.

"Who's the girl you want to find?" Sophie asks.

"Marcel's secret weapon" Klaus informs her. Sophie frowns her eyebrows. "The way he knows when a witch is using magic-" Rebekah cuts him off.

"Girl about yea high, cute as a button, anger issues?" Rebekah describes. Claire gives her a look wondering if she's already forgotten the girls' name.

"Davina?" Sophie asks knowing exactly who she's talking about. "Where have you seen her?" Claire resists the urge to face-palm. If they knew where they saw her then why would they be asking her to do this spell?

"I don't know," Rebekah says frustratingly. "The little brat erased my memory right after she threw me out a window with her bloody mind" Rebekah snapped. Asher enters the room having felt Rebekah's steady rise to anger. Rebekah smiles at him and gravitates towards him.

"Let me cut to the chase. Davina is Marcel's secret weapon. Things will go along much smoother if she is away from him which I assume you witches want as well. We don't know where she is, we're not willing to risk our own witches and our fragile peace with Marcel, ergo, we need your magic"

"Davina would sense is" Sophie shakes her head.

"Unless, of course, another witch" Rebekah rejoins the conversation. "say a traitor, Katie for example" Rebekah grins while Sophie's head snaps over to her recognizing the name. "was to perform much more powerful magic at the same time. That would create a smokescreen, concealing your very small spell for and from Davina"

"Katie doesn't deserve to die" Sophie shakes her head. Anger flares in not only Claire but Klaus as well. They both go to snap but Klaus gets there first.

"Sophie Deveraux! You're in no position to be so principled" Klaus snapped marching towards her. "You can't win a war without a few strategic losses, no matter how regrettable they may be. How many times have the vampires been one step ahead, known something they shouldn't? Your sister, executed in the public square for practicing magic, who know she'd be caught? Did she even attempt to flee?"

"She was caught hiding in a cargo hold of a freighter before it set sail down the Mississippi" Sophie whispers.

"And who, pray tell, of Marcel's valued inner circle, manages his business at the docks?" Klaus tilts his head.

"Katie's boyfriend, Thierry" Sophie whispers sighing.

"You're the one who brought us to take down Marcel, this is how we do it," Claire said bringing Sophie's attention onto her. "What is so different of us sacrificing a traitor like Katie to accomplish our needs and you threatening an innocent pregnant woman to get what you want?" Sophie slowly looks away from her. Claire stands from her spot. "Don't you dare look down on us for doing what needs to be done when you're hands aren't clean either"

Claire turns and walks out of the room allowing Klaus, Rebekah, and Asher to talk about the finer details of the plan with the witch. Finn leaves the room with Claire knowing he wasn't needed for the rest of the conversation. Not that he was really needed for the first half but he wanted to be there for Claire, with her out of the room he no longer felt the desire to stick around.

"How dare she value a life of a traitor over mine" Claire snapped walking into the kitchen with Finn.

"I see the meeting went well," Henrik says sarcastically from his spot at the table.

"Katie has betrayed the witches more than once and she's not willing to sacrifice her but she's willing to kill herself, which in turn would kill me and the baby if we don't help her and the witches get out of their mess with Marcel. This isn't even our war, we had nothing to do with this and they dragged us here-" Claire growled.

"Princess, calm down," Finn says turning her head to look at him. "I understand you're frustrations, believe me, I do" He kisses her forehead while grabbing her hand, intertwining their fingers.

"So, is she doing the spell?" Henrik asks.

"Yes, she's doing the spell" Claire nods. "Klaus, Rebekah and Asher are still with her working out the details."

"Which is a good thing, I'm glad we didn't have to resort to threatening her," Henrik says.

"There's not much we can threaten her with," Claire says. "We're going to have to save the threatening to when we really need it"

"Look at you, our diabolical little mate" Henrik grins standing up. Claire takes in a breath and slowly lets it out. "I'd say we are rubbing off on you but you've always had a little bit of diabolicalness inside"

"I don't think I would have been your mate if I couldn't handle myself like the rest of you" Claire smiles letting go of Finn and pulling Henrik into a hug. He kisses the top of her head.

A few moments later Claire and the others see Sophie leaving the house. Claire kisses both Finn and Henrik before going to find Klaus. She finds him in the study with Elijah.

"How did things go?" Claire asks him.

"Smoothly once you successfully doubled her guilt" Klaus grins at her. "Nice touch, my love."

"I got angry," Claire says softly.

"And rightfully so" Klaus nods. "Don't stress over it. All the details are in place. Sophie has gone to do her part, Rebekah and Asher are off to do theirs and I'll be leaving in a moment to do mine."

"Is there anything I can do?" Claire asks moving closer to them.

"Stay home and stay safe," Klaus says. She smiles and kisses his cheek lightly.

"Keep me updated on what's happening" She whispers.

"Of course" He kisses her forehead, finishes his drink and leaves the room.

"How are you feeling?" Elijah asks gaining her attention. She leans against the desk beside him.

"I'm ok," She tells him truthfully. Elijah smiles and sips on his drink, listening to what she had to say. "I guess being able to actually see that things are moving along and getting done is more relaxing than not knowing."

For a while things seemed to be stagnant but not anymore. Claire can see the plans happening and that is more reassuring than not seeing anything happening.

"Where's Kol?" Claire asks frowning her eyebrows.

"I believe Archie challenged him to some type of game in the packhouse, it's been quite reckless for the past couple of hours from what I can hear," Elijah says looking out the window. He frowns his eyebrows seeing a window broken that wasn't broken before.

"Well, at least he's not massacring New Orleans" Claire shrugs smiling softly. He grins turning back to her. "I don't think Klaus is going to be able to pick up Madelyn with me. I'll drag Kol out of the packhouse but would you like to join as well?"

"Of course, I'd love to see the family portrait she's drawn today," Elijah says with a hint of mischief in his eyes.

"What did you do?" Claire asked grinning.

"Whatever do you mean?" Elijah smiles with innocence. Claire laughs and shakes her head.

"You're right, he's good" Klaus nods from inside the Abattoir with Marcel. Thierry plays the trumpet a little bit away from them.

"Right?" Marcel grins proudly. "Music man, I call him. Ladies love him, but he's spoken for. He knocks around with this pretty little witch. Says he loves her, but I don't know" Marcel shrugs.

"Your brightest soldier is fraternizing with your enemy, and you don't care?" Klaus says skeptically.

"Well, of course, I care, but Thierry is a grown man" Marcel explains. "He makes his own choices, and I get some good intel. Besides, he's not gonna do anything to jeopardize what we're doing here. I mean, check this out, a vampire hosting a ritzy charity event?" Marcel grins widely. "We have a community here. No one's gonna mess that up." A plan forms in Klaus's head.

"Still... You don't want the witches to get too bold, given that a witch's tip about my mate being a siphoner led to the disappearance of your nightwalkers. I'm sure you've considered the possibility that it could've been a trap" Klaus plants doubt in his mind.

"Well, maybe I'll send a little message" Marcel steps away from Klaus who hides his grin. "Thierry! Take a team of nightwalkers to the Cauldron tonight, do a little rousting" Marcel orders. "Oh, and Thierry? Make it nasty" Marcel smirks. He turns back to Klaus who gives him a nod of approval.

"Well, I should be going-"

"Claire coming to the Gala tonight?" Marcel asks. Klaus turns to him.

"I'm not sure if-"

"Oh, come on" Marcel grins. "She'll be safe. My guys know not to mess with her and I'm sure you and your brothers won't let anything happen. It's a charity event. Make it a date night, a night out in the city" Klaus forces a convincing smile.

"I'll bring it up to her when I go home" Klaus promises.

"Excellent" Marcel claps. Klaus nods and disappears. When he returns home, Claire is just returning herself having gone to pick Madelyn up from school.

"Papa Nik!" Madelyn races towards him. Klaus's mood instantly lifts and a genuine smile appears on his face. He scoops Madelyn up in his arms and spins her around.

"How was school, Princess?" Klaus asks resting her on his hip and taking her inside the house.

"Good, look at my picture" Madelyn hands it to him. He takes it with his free hand.

"Beauti- What?" Klaus frowns his eyebrows and comes to a stop. "What did you draw, sweetheart?"

"It's our family," She says. "That's Papa Kol, Papa Finn, Papa Henrik, Mommy, Papa 'Lijah and then you" Klaus frowns his eyebrows. "Papa 'Lijah gave me some ideas"

"I see that sweetheart" Klaus mutters. "Elijah!" Klaus shouts setting Madelyn down. "Mind if I hold onto this, love?" Madelyn nods enthusiastically and runs off.

"Yes, brother?" Elijah asks coming up behind him.

"Really?" Klaus asks holding up the picture. Elijah grins. "You told her to give me fluffy ears, a tale and is that... is that a collar?" Klaus looks in closely.

"Looks like she's trying to tame the beast within you, brother" Elijah claps him on the back.

"This isn't funny," Klaus says.

"On the contrary, it's hilarious" Elijah snatches the paper. "I believe she could give your paintings a run for their money."

"Give it back, Elijah" Klaus follows him.

"I especially love the size of the crown she drew for me" Elijah smirks smugly.

"Elijah, give it here" Klaus snaps. Elijah turns towards him, walking backward into the kitchen where the rest of their brothers are.

"Why? What are you going to do with it?" Elijah tilts his head. Kol comes up and snatches it from Elijah.

"You're not planning on tearing the masterpiece, are you, brother?" Henrik asks smirking. "That's your daughters drawing, what kind of father are you?" Klaus rolls his eyes and rubs his face.

"We should make copies" Kol smirks. "This'll be worth a lot of money someday, though it'll always be priceless to me" He winks at Klaus who rolls his eyes. "Madelyn! Darling, I have more ideas for you!"

"Kol" Klaus growls. Kol winks and disappears. "Are you all done? I have something to discuss" Klaus says.

"Is it your time of the month, brother?" Henrik asks. Klaus speeds up to him and kicks the stool out from under him. Henrik laughs as he hits the ground.

"Boys, boys" Claire smiles walking into the room. "You said you had something to discuss, what is it?"

"Marcel wants you to come to the gala tonight," Klaus says.

"I thought you didn't want me to leave the house," Claire says crossing her arms. Klaus sighs.

"I don't want you to leave the house but Marcel insists. It's supposed to be a charity event, no problems. It'll look suspicious if we don't bring you."

"Then I go," Claire says shrugging.

"But there are going to be problems," Klaus says. "The plan is tonight"

"And you said it yourself, if I don't go, it'll look suspicious. So, I go to the party. I stay with you guys and nothing happens to me. I'm glad we talked about this" Claire kisses his cheek. "Caroline! I need a dress!"
