recently i was talking with my dad and he has a very good taste in music and a very wide range of what types of music he listens to

and the topic changed to what are considered "emo" bands today

and so he was comparing what were emo bands were back then and what emo bands are now

my dad said that emo bands when he was in college were bands like dashboard confessional and emo was just expressing emotion

and tbh all the emo bands now (fall out boy, green day, panic! at the disco, and my chemical romance) are just pop punk to me, not emo

because if you compare dashboard confessional to panic! at the disco it just doesn't seem like they could be the same genre

and yes i do know that those bands considered emo aren't just "emo" as their genre

the thing is though emo as their genre only came up for two bands when i searched their genres to make sure my knowledge was correct

so basically all i'm saying is that i do not consider bands like mcr, green day, p!atd, fall out boy, etc emo

hopefully i didn't offend any of you guys

and just to clear up anything, i listen to green day and fall out boy, and i've heard a few songs from p!atd and liam is getting me into listening to mcr

but i'm saying again, i hope not offend any of you guys, all i'm saying is that i do not consider "em bands now to actually be emo, i will just refer to them as pop punk bands.

i still do like the bands though, i just don't consider them to be emo

(oh god i'm really afraid now that i'm voicing my opinion)

also! before i end this chapter, one thing, so i started listening to blink-182 (enema of the state) and i absolutely LOVE them, i think i either like the party song or what's my name again? by them
