Chapter 5
Mia
The next day after being discharged was hell. My parents invaded my home and started giving rapid instructions to Nina and the staff about how they should be monitoring my health from now on. Leave it to Darian and Shreya Young to control and command everyone in this world. Nina was given the highest responsibility to come up with a really healthy 3 course meal every day and she also had to make sure I ate my medicine infront of her at all times. I hated this so much.
I was a 27+ years old grown ass woman. I didn't need anyone monitoring me like I'm some useless kid. I always practised myself to be disciplined and calm in most situations. There were only a handful of times I've been irresponsible. For instance when I used to sneak out of the house to go clubbing with my friends, kiss the wrong guys and drive my dad's Ferrari without asking for his permission first. But I was young and dumb back then but I wasn't anymore. I knew how important my health is because honestly health is your greatest wealth.
Back then I didn't understand that phrase, but after falling sick and almost dying 2 years ago I realised the importance of it. I didn't bother arguing with my parents because I didn't have the capacity for it. I mentally blamed Doctor light brown eyes for this. He could have just let it go with the meds he didn't need to meddle with my eating habits. I made a mental note to make it really difficult for him the next time I saw him.
By the time my parents were done, it was already afternoon. I took the day off today to pretty much do nothing, I felt too dizzy to look at documents or review any meetings so I just slept a lot the whole day. Doctor light brown eyes did say I needed to rest a lot so that's what I'm going to do, rest for now and plan for his downfall later.
"Lunch is served." Nina said as she served me a plate of rice, spicy chicken masala and sauteed potatoes. My mouth was watering by the sight before me. The aroma of the spices filled the air and entered into my nostrils. "Yummy."
" Nina thank you and you don't have to make me 3 meals a day. It might be exhausting for you." I can't believe my parents are treating Nina like this. She was 65 years old. She deserves to get some rest and not babysit me 24/7. This is ridiculous.
" Nonsense, it's the least I can do to take care of my baby. I almost died when I heard you collapsed at work and how you have strained your heart." She almost choked saying the last part and I felt bad seeing her get all worked up like that.
"Nina I'm fine and I promise to take care of myself but I just don't want you overworking."
"It's my job." She waved her hands at me and I sighed. Why doesn't anyone ever listen to me?
"Okay but at least let me help you whenever I'm at home. Let me help you cook, you know I enjoy it."I smiled back at her and she looked happy. Nina loved it when I helped her to cook and she has taught me so many amazing recipes. I even told her to write her own cookbook but she always brushed off those ideas.
" Okay Mia I will let you help me," She said and went back to the kitchen and brought me back a glass of apple juice.
"You need all the vitamins you can get." She placed the glass in front of me and gave me a stern look. She was lucky I loved apple juice, If not I would have protested this so badly.
I had a nagging feeling that this was not gonna be easy to deal with on a daily basis. "God please give me the patience and strength to go through this hell." I silently prayed because honestly that is the only thing I could do.
A week later I was back at work. I felt normal, fresh and luckily I had no more chest pains. I did feel a little lethargic but I guess it was due to the meds. Some of them did make me feel sleepy and tired. So I made it a point to only take the sleepy meds when I'm at home. Thankfully, my dad took care of everything for that one week I was gone and Karan updated me on everything that I missed when I came back to the office today.
"So we have sealed the deal with Russo developers. We will be collaborating with them on their new housing project in the west coast of Malaysia, we will be doing all the back end cabling and networking in all the houses as well as installing CCTVs and built-in security systems. Your notes also say that we have given them our quotes." I briefly looked up at Karan. He always had a serious look etched onto his face.
"Yes Ms.Young, your dad has finalised the deal with them. Their project should be starting next month."
"Okay that's great and how is our discussion with Parvo department stores going?"
"Difficult, they are trying to lowball us." Karan said while adjusting his glasses.
"Hmm well we have worked with them before so why are they doing this now." I tapped my pen on the table and wondered what is causing them to behave this way all of a sudden.
Parvo department stores was one of our biggest clients. They were a Japanese company and we had good ties with them ever since they built their first store here in Singapore. They had many department stores across the country and we always did the back end cabling and networking system for them. We also installed the best security cameras and safety systems for them as well.
Recently they planned to open a huge mall in Malaysia and we drew up the usual contract but they have been trying to lowball us and didn't want to agree to the pricing. I silently wondered what was going on.
"Karan set me up for a meeting with Hiraya. I need to know what's going on with our collaboration with Parvo and why they are lowballing us."
"Okay Ms Young, will get on to it and also your Doctor Aryan emailed me to remind you that you have an appointment with him this Friday and to keep your schedule free on that day."
"Excuse me, Doctor Aryan emailed you and told you to keep my schedule free?" I was confused by what Karan said. Why the hell did I need a reminder especially from Aryan?
"Actually he called first to tell me to remind you and then he asked for your email so that he can personally email you but I told him that I wasn't allowed to do that so instead he emailed me the details."
Who the hell does he think he is? He has no right to instruct my PA like that and he certainly had no right to expect Karan to clear my schedule. My blood was boiling at this point. This aggravating man.
"Forward the email to me," I told Karan before he walked out of my room.
A few minutes later my inbox pinged. I opened the email, read it and with each passing word I grew more annoyed.
Dear Karan,
Hope you are having a good day.
I just wanted to remind you of Ms Young's appointment with me this Friday at 10am. It is important for me to see her as I need to monitor her health progress. It would be great if you could keep your boss schedule free.I understand she is a very busy woman.
Regards,
Doctor Aryan Vedanshi
I get it he was just doing his job but I didn't need a reminder. I was eager to reply him back with the most sarcastic response I could think of but before I did that my room door opened and my Dad walked in and asked me a million questions about work and my health and I completely forgot about Doctor Light Brown Eyes. The universe is definitely on Aryan's side.
