"Somebody broke into Ms. Young's house." Ragnar words echoed through my head again and again as I drove us back to her home. I briefly glanced at Mia and she was staring out the window with a stern look on her face. Her jaw was clenched and her arms were crossed. After we both received the call from Ragnar and Raymond, we panicked, quickly got dressed and left her parents home immediately.

As we got closer, the house was surrounded by flashing police lights, casting an eerie glow on the otherwise quiet street. We pull up to the driveway, our faces etched with worry. We rushed out of the car and made our way to the front door, where a police officer met us.

"Ma'am you can't go in, this is a crime scene."The police officer told Mia.

"This is my house... Let me in right now." Mia seethed at the cop.

"Mia, officer let her in." Ragnar told the police officer and she moved aside to let her in and Mia walked right past her and I followed her closely behind.

"Ragnar, what happened, how is this even possible?" Mia sounded angry.

"Ms.Young, I am officer Heron. It appears there was a break-in. We're securing the premises and gathering evidence. I can show you the footage from your neighbour's CCTV."

"My neighbours CCTV, what happened to mine?" She sounded confused and pissed.

"They jammed it." Officer Heron signalled someone and a younger boy with an open laptop walked over to us. The screen displays the security camera footage and we both watched the scene unfold before us. A guy in a black hoodie covering his face in the mask crossed the street and waited in front of Mia's house and this was the terrifying part, her security guards let him inside and the intruder walks in calmly.

"This is all the footage we have for now. I would need you to follow me inside. He destroyed both of your rooms''.

We were both standing inside Mia's room. Her bed and pillows were ripped, the feathers and wool were everywhere. Her bedside clock and tiny lamp was trashed to the ground. We walked into her walk-in closet and her clothes were ripped and thrown all over the place, some of her shoes were broken, her perfume bottles were shattered on the ground and her drawers were thrown out.

Luckily Mia moved all her expensive jewellery, some cash and important documents to the safe located in a secret door behind the walk-in closet. She meticulously had that safe designed specifically for situations like this. She walked over to the secret door and unlocked it with the eye detector and the door instantly unlocked revealing a huge safe. She twisted the knob for a bit and the safe unlocked and opened, revealing all of her jewellery,cash and documents unharmed. She removed everything and placed it into a duffel bag and zipped it up and passed it to Raymond.

"Doctor Vedanshi, you should check out your room as well." I followed Officer Heron to my room with Mia following me at the back and when we reached the room and opened the door, it trashed horribly as well, same like Mia's. I walked inside and saw my clothes torn, my bag opened and all my things were thrown everywhere. Why did I get the feeling they were searching for something?

"Officer, I have a feeling they are searching for something and that is why they only targeted both of our rooms." I told Officer Heron.

"We believe so too." We are trying to see if we can get the other neighbours to cooperate and give us their CCTV footage to see how he even came here. Ragnar also gave me the information about Ms. Young's security guards, Stephen and Kuna. We are tracking them down as we speak."

Mia just stood in the corner with her eyes closed and pinching the bridge of her nose.

"Thank you Officer Heron." I shook his hand.

"We will keep you updated."Officer Heron walked away from both of us.

God who would do such a thing and why were they so hell bent on hurting Mia. I tugged my hair hard and cursed under my breath. My temper was at its peak. Never have I ever felt so much pure rage and hatred in my life before. To think that someone is after the one girl I loved the most in my entire life made me so unbelievably angry. If I catch him, I swear I will show him how fast I can end a life just as fast as I can save one. Mia walked over to me and hugged me and started crying and it broke me.

"Aryan, someone could have hurt you today."She wasn't even worried about herself but she was more concerned about my safety.

"Fiore, please don't cry, nobody is going to hurt me okay." I tried assuring her but it didn't work.

"But they could have if you came home." She started panicking and she sank down to the floor crying with his hands on her face. That sight alone was excruciating to witness. I have seen many painful things in my life and right now seeing her this upset is on top of my list.

"Fiore, please look at me. I'm fine baby, please don't cry." All I could do was hug her close to my heart and repeat the same words again and again. If only I could take her pain away, I gladly would.

"Darling look at me."I peeled her hands away from her face and cupped her tear stained cheeks and kissed her lips.

" I am okay. A pretty angel came to see me just now and she saved me from getting hurt."

"Aryan.... I am so sorry to put you through this. God, if I get my hands on him, I am going to destroy him."

"Baby, you are like this big you know."I pinched my forefinger and thumb together teasing her in hopes to make her laugh and get her out of this stupid mood.

"Not funny Aryan."She huffed and mumbled at my joke.

"I'm sorry, I just wanted you to smile."

"I thought you said I had a creepy smile." She sniffed.

"You have the prettiest smile I have ever seen in my life."I pushed a strand of hair behind her ears and she smiled and looked down. That was so cute.

"Mia, I'm okay, you don't have to strain yourself and worry about it. We will figure this out together."

"Okay." She nodded her head and I helped her to get up.

We walked out of my room and back downstairs where Ragnar and Raymond were waiting for us.

"Mia, I spoke to your dad, he is cutting his trip short and coming home tomorrow." Ragnar told us while he handed us both a cup of warm tea.

"Aryan, Darian wants you to stay with Mia at their place from now on until we can sort out this problem."

"Okay, and thank you Ragnar." I genuinely appreciated how they all took care of me.

I saw Mia sigh out in relief. I know she was happy that I got to stay with her from now on. I was pretty ecstatic about it as well.

"Thank you Ragnar, for everything." Mia thanked him.

"You don't have to thank me for anything Ms.Young, I watched you grow up, you are like my daughter too. I would protect you with my life." He brushed her head.

That statement brought a warm smile to her face and she hugged Ragnar. I looked past them and I saw someone in a black biker suit and mid length wavy hair walk in. It was Karan.

"What happened? Ms.Young are you okay?" There was a mixture of concern and anger latched onto his face when he walked up to Mia and I don't know why I became jealous. I wasn't fond of seeing Karan so close to her like that, I get it he is her PA and he had every right to care about his bosses wellbeing but still I couldn't help but feel envious of him.

"Karan I am fine, just shaken up a bit that is all."Mia and Karan were in a deep conversation about what happened and I just stared at them from the side. Man, he didn't even ask me if I was okay but he was all over her.

Hello I am a victim too but obviously he only had his eyes on Mia. I saw Mia look at me from the side and I rolled my eyes at her and she raised her eyebrows at me. She was confused at first then she looked back at Karan and then back at me and realised what was going on. She looked like she was about to laugh but held it in. Oh yeah sure go ahead and laugh Mia. I swear me being in pain brings her so much of happiness. I walked outside and saw that it was already dark. I checked my watch and saw the time, it was already 9p.m. Fuck my shift starts at 11 today and I almost forgot. I ran back inside and informed Mia.

"Fiore, I have to leave, my shift starts at 11 today."

"Okay baby.... But wait, you didn't even rest the whole day, won't you feel tired at work?. You need to get some rest, just take the day off."

"It doesn't work that way darling. I have to go now. Take care, get home safe and call me when you have reached. Don't stay up too late." I kissed her forehead, nodded at Karan and left.

"Raymond, will it be possible for you to drop me off at the hospital today?".

"Absolutely sir." Raymond nodded and we headed to the car.

I arrived at the hospital 20 minutes later, thanked Raymond and went inside straight to the locker. I usually kept spare scrubs, stets and my doctor's coat inside there incase of an emergency and today it came in handy.

After a quick change I headed back outside to start my graveyard shift. Night shifts were usually calmer compared to the day shift, the only downside to this is that you can get extremely lethargic throughout the night, but my years of training has taught me to handle any type of shifts by just walking around, drinking coffee and watching a series or something during breaks.

I was in the midst of my nighttime rotation when my phone pinged with a text. I removed my phone from silent and DND ever since that day. I wasn't going to take any risks when it comes to Mia's safety and health. It was a text from Mia.

Mia : Reached home, I am going to take a shower and head off to bed. P.s I saw you being jealous 😂

I was just happy she was home and out of the shitty mood she was in earlier. I actually wanted to reply to her but I was in the middle of rounds so I couldn't so I just sent her a heart shaped emoji. I would give her a proper reply when I am on my break later.

3 hours later, I was finally able to take a coffee break. I just finished dealing with an emergency case. A collapsed patient was brought in and she had a past history with heart problems before. It took us a while to sort out that case and get her into a stable position but I did tell the nurses to keep an eye on her and page me if anything happens.

I was walking down the hallway when I spotted Rahul, he looked exhausted and didn't seem to notice me until I stopped him.

"Bro, haven't seen you in the past two shifts."I placed my arms around his shoulder.

"Just got transferred to the night shift my dude. I hate it. If you think kids screaming in the daytime is bad, it's much worse at night and plus the nagging parents". He rubbed his temple.

"This is why I am in cardiology and not Paeds."

"I have so many regrets."Rahul looked like he was about to cry.

"You need some coffee.... Let's go get some coffee." I dragged Rahul and we went to our usual cafe downstairs to get some coffee. I also had to update Rahul about my recent situation as I didn't plan on hiding anything from him anymore. I don't want him to feel like I was mistreating him in any way by keeping secrets. Rahul was like my brother and he had a right to know. Rahul was very quiet by the time I was done telling him the whole story. His rather annoyed mood shifted into a serious one.

"Is Mia okay now?" Rahul was genuinely concerned.

"Yes she is okay now."

"How about you, are you okay?"

Honestly I couldn't answer him. With Mia's life in danger and the weight of exhaustion was kicking in, for the first time in a long time, I was tired, upset and extremely angry. I always had things under control, be it my emotions, work and my life but lately I felt like my whole world was up in flames and I didnt know how to put the fire out.

"Bro, I asked you if you are okay?" Rahul shook my shoulder slightly.

"Hmmm... yeah I'm.. I'm fine". I ran my hand through my hair and straightened my glasses.

"I'm always here if you need me." He tapped on my shoulder and I nodded at him."I appreciate it bro."

We finished our coffees and headed back to our respective floors when I heard my phone vibrate in my pocket. I quickly took it out and saw a message from a new unknown number

"I will get you next time!".
