Chapter Nineteen - Aslan's Plan
"Where are the Pevensie's?" Aslan questioned Elizabeth as they stood inside the main tent.
"Edmund and Peter were getting lessons from Oreius while Susan and Lucy were in the archery area" Elizabeth told him and he nodded. "Jadis is going to come for Edmund, you know the law Aslan." She said and he nodded to her.
"I need you to trust me Elizabeth, now more than ever. I need you to stay here in the camp no matter what happens" He told her and she looked at him very suspicious.
"Aslan what do you have in mind?" She questioned him.
"Promise me that you will look after them, especially Peter. They will need you guidance and your knowledge to move forward" Aslan said and she looked at him but only nodded and didn't say anything. It wasn't long after that that they heard commotion outside. Elizabeth listened carefully and could here her sisters name being called out and her Narnains upset roars.
"She's here" She said and Aslan nodded walking out of the tent and she followed him. She stood besides him as she looked at her sister for the first time in about a century. She had aged faster than Elizabeth but Elizabeth knew better than to underestimate her. Elizabeth and Jadis looked each other in the eyes both dull with no emotions. Elizabeth couldn't help but hold slight hate towards her sister for all the pain she had put her and the rest of her family through.
As Jadis came closer Elizabeth looked away and to the Pevensie siblings. Her eyes met Peters nervous ones. She could feel his nervousness from where she stood and all she wanted to do was comfort him. She gave him a nod hoping that he knew that she would do everything in her power to keep their family together. He nodded back to her knowing that this wasn't any easier on her than it was on him.
"You have a traitor in midst, Aslan... Elizabeth" Jadis said looking at her sister and Elizabeth narrowed her eyes at her showing Jadis her hate.
"His offence was not against you" Elizabeth told her sister sternly making Edmund look at her. He wasn't used to people standing up for him, in his eyes he always felt like he was on his own. This felt different, he liked it.
"Have you forgotten the Deep Magic?" She questioned almost tauntingly making Aslan angry as he took a step forward towards her.
"Do not cite the Deep Magic to me Witch. I was there when it was written" Aslan said with a growl glaring at Jadis himself.
"Then you will know that the boy belongs to me" She said looking to Elizabeth's people. Elizabeth felt protective over her people and hated that Jadis was here. "That boy" She said pointing to Edmund. "Will die on the Stone Table" She said sternly. Peter took out his sword and pointed it at Jadis protectively.
"Came and take him then" Peter snapped but Jadis merely chucked at Peter. Elizabeth grew extremely uncomfortable with her attention on Peter and felt her hand itching towards her sword knowing she would protect Peter if it came to it. Thought Elizabeth knew Jadis wasn't stupid enough to attack now, not here where she was clearly out numbered.
"You think that a simple threat will deny me my right, little King?" Jadis asked looking at him not believing that he dared take a sword out and threaten her. "Both Elizabeth and Aslan knows that if I do not have blood as the law demands all of Narnia will be overturned and perish in fire and water" She said obviously wanting to turn everyone against Edmund and start something. It was working as the Narnian's muttered to each other in a slight panic. Aslan roared silencing them all and Jadis looked to the lion and her sister.
"Enough, we shall talk with you alone" Aslan said going into the tent. Elizabeth looked to Peter one last time before going into the tent after Aslan. They waited silently for Jadis and soon she walked into the tent.
"Aslan, Elizabeth" She said to them and Elizabeth looked at her sister with a hard look.
"Jadis" She growled making her older sister grin.
"Tell me Lizzy, how's Digory?" She asked and Elizabeth looked at her crossing her arms.
"Alive, I wish I could say the same about Lance...and William... and Penny" She said getting angrier and angrier after every name. "Tell me Jadis" Elizabeth snapped out glaring at her sister. "Did you kill them yourself or were you to much of a coward and have someone else do it like you tried to with Digory and I?" She snapped and Jadis glared at her sister.
"They screamed like little girls" She said and Elizabeth wanted to jump across the table and kill her right then and there but Aslan knew now was not the time nor the place.
"We are here to talk about Edmund fate, Elizabeth. Keep that in mind" Aslan said and Elizabeth forced herself to back down causing Jadis to smirk.
"What about Edmunds fate Aslan?" Jadis questioned him. "He dies on the stone table as the Deep Magic demands" She told him and he looked at her.
"I understand, however, the Deep Magic also says that someone may step into the traitors place and die in his stead" Elizabeth looked at Aslan quickly but he did not look at her but kept his eyes on Jadis. Jadis looked extremely interested in this information and a million thoughts ran through her mind. "I will die in place of Edmund" Elizabeth looked down feeling her heart being torn as she thought about the death of a dear friend.
"You would give your life in place of a traitor? A boy you don't even know?" Jadis questioned and Aslan gave her a single nod. She looked at him before turning to Elizabeth. "And you would allow him to do this?" She asked her.
"You know Aslan Jadis, no one can tell him what to do and no one can force him not to do something he clearly wants to do" She said looking at her older sister.
"And if i refuse Aslan?" Jadis asked looking at him but they all knew she wouldn't refuse the chance to kill the great Lion.
"You won't refuse" Elizabeth said and Jadis looked at her.
"And why is that little sister?" She asked tilting her head.
"Because you will never win this war with the both of us alive and you know that. Between the Pevensie siblings, Aslan and I you're doomed to failure. But you know that if you kill Aslan then we'll all be distracted, you'll have a better chance at winning the war" Jadis smirked laughing a little bit.
"You think I need to kill the Lion for comfort? You think i won't win with him alive?" She asked looking at him and Elizabeth nodded to her.
"You and I both know this" She said and Jadis looked at her with a straight face and then looked back at Aslan.
"I accept" She said and Elizabeth sighed knowing she had just helped set Aslan's death. Though both she and Aslan knew that they needed the Pevensie siblings. They needed them alive for not only the battle tomorrow but to fill the empty thrones. They also knew that Aslan needed to do this so that the prophecy will come true, so that Narnia will have peace when the Pevensie children take the crown and become Kings and Queens of Narnia. "Tonight, at the stone table when the moon is risen" She said and Aslan nodded. "When you die, Edmund will be released from my hold completely. As always, it's a pleasure to see you Elizabeth" She said.
"Likewise... I look forward to seeing you again. How's tomorrow about noon sound?" She asked her sister and Jadis nodded.
"I'll see you then, I hope you don't mind if I bring a few friends along with me" She said and Elizabeth smirked shaking her head.
"Only if you don't mind if i bring some of mine" Jadis smirked at Elizabeth.
"Now it's starting to sound like a party" She said and Elizabeth smirked widely.
"You know where the best part of the party is right? Dead center, I'll meet you there. I just shinned my new blade, I wonder what crimson red blood looks like on it?" Elizabeth wondered out loud. "Why don't you meet me in the center and we'll take a sample" She said and Jadis glared at her. "Wait, is your blood pitch black or crystal white? You know what don't answer that, I want to be surprised tomorrow" Elizabeth said smirking.
"I'd hate to disappoint you little sister. Oh and in case you were wondering Lance had crimson red blood" Elizabeth's eyes went cold and hatred filled them. "It looked beautiful on my ice walls" She said thinking about it. "It looked even more beautiful as it puddled together on the ground" She whispered feeling no remorse for her dead brothers.
"It's too bad I didn't see it" Elizabeth whispered back. "I'll just have to try and reenact it with you instead tomorrow"
"No, I liked the view to much, I wonder what it's like to see your blood pouring out of your body" Jadis said stepping closer to her sister.
"I guess we'll find out tomorrow, whoever gets there first gets to spill blood" She told her older sister.
"I look forward to it" Jadis told her.
"I've been looking forward to it for over a century" She snapped back. They stared at each other before Jadis left the tent. Aslan and Elizabeth looked at each other before leaving the tent as well. Everyone was still standing up as they had sat down and looked towards their true Queen and the great Lion.
"The Witch has denounced her claim on Edmund" Aslan told everyone and they started to cheer.
"How will I know your promise will be kept?" Jadis questioned loudly. Aslan roared loudly forcing her to sit down and everyone laughed at her. Peter looked at Elizabeth with a wide smile but it slowly left his face when he saw hers. It looked sad, the saddest he had seen since he arrived. She looked at him with almost tears in her eyes before she followed Aslan back into the tent.
"I do not want you to come with me tonight" He said and she sighed looking down. "Remember Elizabeth-" She cut him off.
"I know, I know.. I just need to trust you" She said and he smiled at her.
"Yes, this is not good bye. I need you to keep a close watch over the Pevensie children. Make sure they are ready for the war tomorrow."
"I will" She told him nodding. "I will make sure they are ready, I will make sure that we win this war and put an end to Jadis and her endless winter" Aslan smiled to her nodding.
"I know you will, I trust you" She smiled a little bit hearing him say that before wrapping her arms around his neck. She felt his paw on her back gently.
"This is not good bye dear one, we will see each other again" He said before pulling away. "Do not let Jadis distract you on the battle field. She will try and if she does she will get the upper hand, you know what will happen after that" Elizabeth nodded looking down.
"I will defeat her, Aslan. I will defeat her even if it means I too, die in the process."
