Cars and a Talk

My car was going faster than hers. We drove around the circle and came back. My blue and white car was about to cross the little finish line we drew in the street. Her green car was catching up fast. I was just about to cross the finish line, when Spencer's car shot past mine. I forgot she liked to use the little turbo button on her remote whenever I was about to win.

"And we have a winner! Spencer for the win again!" she yelled, "With Jamie in second place!"

I shook my head, "You always turbo before I win. You know what, we're making a new rule. No more turbos,"

She sighed, "You just don't like it when I beat you in every race," she said, "but I guess we can establish this new rule of yours,"

I smirked, "It's only to keep you from winning. No harm in doing that right?"
She smiled and gave me a playful nudge.

"Come on you two, we're getting pizza,"
Nick, Spencer's brother, said. We put away our cars, and hopped inside a real car. Spencer sat next to me.

"Want to share a pizza when we get there?" she asked. No way I'm turning that down.

"Sure!" I said, "Just as long as it has pepperoni,"

She nodded, "Always,"

XXX

We shared a very delicious pepperoni pizza. Everyone else was at a seperate table. It was just us two sharing a large pizza.

"Ok, I have one," Spencer began, "What do you call a quarantine playlist?"

I shrugged, "I don't know,"

"Quarantunes," she said with a smile. Ok, that one was pretty good. We laughed at her joke. People started giving us weird looks, but we didn't care. We loved to laugh at each other's jokes. No matter what other people thought of us. I also loved to see her laugh. Her face lights up whenever she laughs.

Her smile started to fade however, when we stopped. She seemed a little upset about something. Which worried me because Spencer is almost never upset about anything.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

She sighed, "Something happened at school," she leaned in closer, "I told him,"

I was confused at first. "You told who what?" I asked. Then I remembered. "Oh!You mean Henry!"

She nodded. Henry is Spencer's crush. She tells me about him all the time. She's been debating on whether or not to tell him that she likes him. She apparently decided already.

"What did he say?" I asked.

She frowned a bit, "He didn't take it very well. I mean, I expected the worst, but what he said was more than I expected,"

I turned my chair to face her. "What did he say?" I asked again, but calmly this time.

She buried her head in her hands.
"It's too embarrassing," she said. I put my hand on her shoulder.

"Hey," I whispered, "it's okay. You can tell me. I won't laugh or anything," Whatever Henry said must've really hurt her if it's taking her this long to tell me about it.

She took a deep breath. "He called me a freak, and said that no one would want to date a nerd like me,"

Tears were trying to fall from her eyes, but she kept wiping them away. One thing Spencer doesn't like to show is weakness. She never told me that, but I found out myself. If there's something emotional that we're talking about, she'll try to change the subject immediately.

"Look, I don't want to talk about it. Um, how was your day?" she asked.

I sighed, "Spence, that's not something you can avoid. Okay, words hurt. I get it. But when someone tells you something like that, you don't keep your feelings in. That just makes it worse,"

She still kept wiping them away, "I don't want other people to see,"

I took both of her hands. "Spence, look at me,"

She sighed, and rolled her eyes upward. I shook my head, "I'm down here, silly,"

She sometimes does that to distract me. She'll make me laugh sometimes and I'll forget about what we were talking about. But this definitely wasn't about to be ignored.

"Okay first off, Henry is a jerk. Just remember that the next time you see him. Jerks can't tell you what is right and what's not," I told her.

She laughed, "Jerks are stupid,"

I nodded, "There you go, that's the spirit,"

Everyone needs a little encouragement
every now and then. Even my best friend, and she's one of the strongest people I know.

"Second, who cares about what other people say to you? You are strong, unique, super funny, and a whole lot of other things. Those people are just jealous,"

She nodded, "Yeah, I guess so," then she smirked, "What other characteristics do you think I have?"

"Well, let's just say that if I told you, we would be sitting here forever, sharing large pizzas and getting fat. Which is super unhealthy," I said with a smile.

She laughed. "That must be a lot of characteristics then,"

I nodded, "Definitely,"

She sighed, "I don't know what to do now, Jade. I really thought that it would go great, you know?"

I nodded, "You at least tried. That was very brave of you to do. Trust me, most people don't have the courage to confront their crush like you,"

She smiled, "Have you told your crush that you like them yet?"

I shook my head, "No, not yet at least,"
"Who is your crush?" she asked.
You
"No one,"
She raised an eyebrow, "Really? You seriously expect me to believe that?"
I nodded, "Mm, yeah I do,"
She shook her head, "Fine I'll believe it for now. But one day, you will tell me who your crush is. Promise?"
I nodded, "Yeah, I promise,"
She smiled, "Cool," Then she grabbed the last slice of pizza.
"Hey! Share that!" I ripped half of it off. She just giggled and ate her half.

My best friend is like no other person. That's why she's my crush.

Hope you liked the second chapter!😉
