Chapter 19 | Setting the Stage
Ghost somehow managed a steady hand as he applied his makeup. He knew where this morning would lead. As happy as he was, and as much as the thought brought him to tears, he was nervous. What do you say to someone you left for dead? They chose to put Tokyo out of his misery, but maybe that would've never come if they'd tried to save London.
That day, when one of Carmella's men stood atop the capital building with London in his grip, still haunts Ghost to this day. At least he could face the fact that it happened. Ricky suppressed the memory until it occasional broke into his sleep. He'd relived the day in nightmares several times. They were lucky enough the twins were with them when they died. As for their other children, they'd been long gone for awhile before they were killed.
"Baby, there's something I need to tell you." Ricky started off lightly. He watched his fair maiden as he put in his earrings. Ghost turned around to face him, letting his husband take his hands. "London and Tokyo aren't the only ones still alive."
"I know." He replied, much to Ricky's shock. "I could hear someone screaming last night. Well, I heard a lot of people screaming last night, but I knew one was my son. My biggest fear in life was forgetting their voices and their faces. So, every night, I always remind myself. I couldn't miss his voice anywhere."
"Hm, I guess it's true what they say. A mother always knows. Knox is here too, but Ryan told me him and Ripper aren't in the best condition to be seeing us right now." He said.
Ghost gave a short smile, "That's okay. I'll get to eventually. I'm just grateful they're alive. Well, not alive, but you know what I mean."
"Yeah," He grinned, "I do."
Ricky released Ghost's hands to go answer the door. He opened it to see one of his other sons, the one he was most grateful for at the moment. Felix had helped defuse so many situations at this point, it was unreal. His father took note of the way he was dressed. Instead of his usual skinny jeans and gothy cardigans, he was dressed more formal.
"Don't you look sharp?" Ricky teased him.
He laughed, seeming like he was actually happy for the first time in fuck knows how long. "Jasper couldn't wait to get me back on his staff. Technically, my contract never ran out. I don't mind though. I loved my job here, and I'm sure the others will be happy to have a lighter patient load."
"What exactly was your job here before?" He asked.
"I was an aid, like Micah and Shae. The more aids they have here, the less patients we each have. Meaning we can give each of them the quality time they need." He explained, "I'm going to see the twins first. Would you guys like to come?"
Ricky glanced back at his love, "You ready, Beautiful?"
Ghost sighed, "As ready as I'll ever be."
"I didn't give them a heads up, so they'll be pretty surprised." Felix spoke as he started to walk down the hall, "They'll be happy to see you, though."
"I'm sure they miss their big brother too." Ghost replied, motherly as ever.
He snickered, "Yeah, I guess they might."
Felix could walk through these halls of devils so fearlessly. Ricky and Ghost weren't nessessarily afraid themselves but they were surprised how comfortable he was. They were definitely keeping their guards up. Something about this place rubbed them the wrong way. They'd been around long enough to sense when something wasn't right.
The only positive of this was being reunited with their loved ones. Felix led them back downstairs to the main ward. This time of day, Micah was doing his normal rounds. Friday was still clung to his side. He smiled at the couple as he passed by them. It was warm, comforting. Nothing you'd expect from a demon's servant.
"Here we are." Felix cheerfully said.
"You seem... Happy. Creepily happy." Ricky replied.
"Suspiciously happy." Ghost added.
"I am happy, but not for a creepy or suspicious reason. I'm just happy to have my girl back." He explained.
Felix raised his hand to the door and knocked. Being employed here, he had every right to go in without knocking, but that would make the surprise less fun. Ricky pulled Ghost away from the doorway for a moment. He wanted the twins to have a moment with their brother before them.
London pulled back the door, a little groggy from having just woken up. The sight of his brother in front of him made his eyes double in size. Tokyo could see Felix from inside the room as well. The two nearly knocked over their brother as they hugged him. They started to rattle off questions about how he got back, when he did, where he's been.
"Calm down, calm down." He laughed, "We'll talk more later but I doubt you want to waste time talking to me." His eyes moved in the direction of their parents.
The twins must've had mini heart attacks to see their parents physically there. They instinctively ran to their mother, tears in their eyes. Ricky wasn't bothered by that. He knew they'd always had a much closer relationship with Ghost. All the kids did, considering that's who taken care of them the most.
While the twins and Ghost had their soap opera moment, Ricky grasped onto Felix's shoulder, whispering to him, "I need you to find a way to get your uncle access to Rest Point tonight, while everyone else is sleeping. Can you do that?"
He smirked devilishly, "Easily."

Afternoon had fallen at the point in which Ricky found his way to Finch's office. He'd spent a good amount of time with his boys, but he had to focus on work now. The doctor was more than willing to let him in. It seemed they both had taken an interest in one another. Finch called down Angela to bring them some tea. Once she had left, they began with their small talk.
"Do you mind me asking, what is your natural hair color? And your wife's?" He inquired.
"I was born blonde but my hair turned when I did. Ghost is a brunette naturally." He replied, "Why do you ask?"
"I find it interesting, how the twins were the only ones born with either of your hair color. Ripper's is red, Knox's orange, and Felix's half pink. Do you know why that is?"
Ricky narrowed his eyes out of suspicion. "No, I don't. I wasn't born a vampire. So, I don't really know certain supernatural things that maybe I should. We never really questioned how our kids turned out, considering we had trouble conceiving them all. We were just grateful to have them."
"In all honesty, it's not my place to be openly discussing Ripper and Knox. They aren't my patients, but I've always been interested in their cases. All of your children have something unique about them. I'm just not quite sure what it is, but I see it in the twins." He explained.
"If you're not their doctor, who is?" He asked.
"My brother, Colton, oversees Knox's case. Beau is on Ripper's case. He is here the most, so he gets the most active cases. My brother is here the least, hence the reason all his patients are the ones who never really see much change. I'm getting ahead of myself, though. You didn't come here to discuss your children, did you?"
Ricky sighed, "You're very perceptive. I want to know the truth about Angelo. Why did you fake your death? Why didn't Chris ever tell him the truth, that you were alive? And Ange, did he ever really belong to Chris, or was Chris just keeping him for you?"
Finch took a slow drink of his tea to take a moment to think over the proper answer. "One question at a time. I did not fake my death. I really did die that day and I remained dead for several years. At the time I had died, a demon was keeping my soul in his possession until I repaid some debt I owed him.
I couldn't tell you what happened between my death in 1350 and my revival in 1840. All I know is one day he decided to reawaken me. He revived me and returned my soul, telling me I owed him even more. Aside from having to serve him to clear my debt, I thought it was best for Angelo if he started over. He'd accumulated a long line of enemies simply because we fell in love with each other.
Being without him pained me a great deal. Because of that, I never talked about it. Chris had no clue when he met Angelo. I suppose Angelo had told him some stories about me, though, and he eventually connected the dots. He told me he'd fallen in love with Angelo, and very coldly informed me that he'd gotten over me. I figured as much. Honestly, I'd hope after seven hundred years he could move one. He and Chris were madly in love. I wasn't going to take that away from either of them."
"I can respect that. I just don't understand why Chris wouldn't tell Angelo. Ange loved him so fucking much. It wouldn't have changed anything." He said.
"Chris was one of those people that you couldn't question his ways. He wouldn't give you the answers if you did, and you wouldn't understand them anyways. Things always worked out for him in the end."
"Until they didn't." He muttered.
Finch softened his tone, "Do you mind me asking, how did he die?"
"We were attending an event in the glass dimension. Afterwards, we all decided to go to the tavern. Chris and Angelo sneaked off to get some alone time. They told us they were going to catch up with us later. Emerson was with us at the time and he said he wanted to go back for them. He said he had a bad feeling about things.
Carmella Orlando's daughter decided to avenge her mother's dead. She staked Chris while he and Angelo were kissing. So, the stake went straight through into Ange too. It happened right before we got there. She attacked me the second we walked in, but once I saw what she'd already done, I ripped her head off. Left me with one Hell of a scar though."
"The one on your mouth, I presume?"
He raised his hand up to the permanent reminder that stretched across his bottom lip, chin, and neck. "Yeah. I was always the one who spoke up, even in times when Chris should've. Sometimes I think she went after my mouth for that reason. She wanted to shut me up."
"A lot of bad has come to the world from men opening their mouths, but so has a lot of good. I surely hope that won't deter you from the fight." Finch replied.
"No," He raised his head, a crack of sunlight illuminating his blue eyes, "It's given me another reason to keep fighting. My sons and my daughter, they deserve a world where they aren't treated like rats. I won't rest until I've cleaned out the gutters."
"I'm glad to hear that. Angelo and Chris would've both wanted this world to be rid of it's garbage. They'd be proud of you if they saw you taking this strong charge." He said, "Just do yourself a favor, Ricky. Don't trust anyone you didn't trust before walking through that door."
He stood up with a sigh, "You contradicted yourself there. You practically just told me I shouldn't trust you either."
Finch raised his head from his work. The color of his grey eyes looked flawless. "I'm not sure you should." He turned his head away shamefully, "I'm not sure I'm to trust myself."
"It's a smart decision to doubt yourself, honestly. It helps people from getting arrogant."
He laughed under his breath, "I suppose so."
