Chapter 18 | Claws

Paris sighed as he reached Micah in the hall, "This is useless."

"He's done this before." He replied, glancing down at the little girl still clinging to him. "Just never at such a bad time, I'm afraid. Regardless of circumstances, it did feel a little excessive for Jasper to send us all looking for him. He'd never-" His words were cut off by a blood curdling scream.

Their heads whipped in that direction instantly. Being that they were standing in the Warnderlust ward, it was easy to hear where it'd originated from. Friday whined and tightened her grip on Micah's pant leg. He put his hand on her head to calm her and keep her close.

"Sweetie, stay here with Paris, okay?" He softly told her.

She didn't listen, of course. Friday wanted to stay with him and he decided he didn't have the time to argue. She trailed closely behind him as he rushed over to Kettil's room. He threw open the door, instantly relieved when he saw their missing patient. The picture in front of him may not have been what he wanted to see, but at least they found him.

Angela caught up to the others, stopping behind Micah to see what had happened. Yuki was on the floor of the very cluttered room with tears in his eyes. Under his bangs that covered his left eye, blood dripped down his porcelain skin. He raised his hand to the wound and held it there while he cried. His sights fearfully glared at the demon.

"What happened?" Angela hesitantly asked.

"Go get Beau. They're both his patients." Micah said.

"There's no need for that." Beau spoke up, walking down the long hall, "I heard the scream. While I tend to this, trade posts with Shae. Yuki will need him."

Micah gave a short nod, "Yes, Sir."

He turned back down the hall and hurried to retrieve the other aid. Angela kept her distance to let the doctor go to work. He ignored how pissed Kettil looked and went straight towards Yuki. Terror shook the light elf's eyes. Even his own doctor, he wasn't too comfortable with. He tried to push himself back into the corner more.

"Please, let me see your eye, Honey. I can see you're hurt." Beau tried to speak as softly as he could, as not to startle him. Yuki removed his trembling hand away from his eye. He allowed the doctor to push his hair back to reveal the skin on the bottom of his eye had been torn. "Oh, my. How did this happen?" Knowing Yuki was too scared to talk, he directed the question at Kettil.

Kettil's lack of English came in handy when he didn't want to admit to his crimes. He was still angered at the elf for what he'd done, but he wasn't going to open his mouth.

"H-He took it..." Yuki mumbled.

Beau sighed, "So, that's what happened then?"

Shae reached the doorway to see the mess displayed. The doctor quickly got out of the way to let him tend to his husband. Their relationship wasn't exactly out in the open but it wasn't a secret either. Not to the main staff, anyways. All of Shae's walls crumbled for that little thing. His tough exterior broke the second he saw him hurt. He pulled Yuki into his lap, holding him tightly.

"Kettil," He sneered, "You know better than to even touch Yuki."

"He took something from Yuki. I'm guessing that's why he went missing because he was sneaking around trying to find where it went. When he found it in here, I'm guessing Kettil got mad at him and attacked him."

Shae softly kissed his baby, "What did he take, Sweetie?"

He shook his head, "Secret."

The demon stared for a moment. His precious doll had never refused to tell him something. Shae took his tiny hands in his, kissing over the smeared blood. "Baby, I can't get it back if you don't tell me what it is."

"I can't." He whispered.

"I suggest you leave Yuki in here for a moment and take Kettil out. Let him find what he needs." Beau said.

Shae stood up with his husband in his arms. He didn't want to leave him alone again for more than two seconds, but he understood the doctor's reasoning. Gently, he set Yuki down on his feet. He was still wobbly and upset. Even setting his hand on the dresser to keep himself from falling over upset Kettil.

"No!" He snapped, "No touch!"

Shae stopped him from being able to attack Yuki another time. Kicking and screaming, he carried Kettil out of the room. The small demon grabbed onto the sides of the doorway to try to keep him from going any further. He continued to yell at his aid to release him.

"Quite yourself." Shae sneered, "People are trying to sleep."

He set Kettil back down in the hall. Kettil tried to run back in his room but Shae quickly caught him, securing a hand over his mouth. He glared at his aid, then bit his hand. Shae managed to live through it and not let go. His blood started to drip down his arm but he refused to let go. Beau closed to door as he left the room.

Kettil didn't settle down the entire time. It was a very long five minutes for everyone involved. Finally, Yuki shyly opened the door. He'd retrieved what he needed and hid it away in one of his pockets. Shae foolishly let go of the possessive demon in his arms. Kettil leaped at Yuki, pinning him down to the floor. He screamed again and Shae rushed to pull Kettil off.

The aid threw his patient back into his room. He slammed the door shut, locking it from the outside. Kettil started to slam his fists against it from the other side. He cried out hysterically, cursing in Latin. His yelling was mixed with desperate sobs.

"I'll get him something to settle down. Finch is still in his office, I believe. Ask him to treat Yuki's eye." Beau instructed the aid. He lowered his voice, "We'll keep this attack to ourselves, understood?"

Shae's eyes enlarged, "Uhm, yes, Sir. Why wouldn't you want to tell-"

"He doesn't need to know. He'd punish Kettil, and that boy doesn't need it. Punishments don't work for all patients." He explained, "Now, go, already."

He bowed, "Yes, Sir. Thank you."

Shae swept Yuki up in his arms and started to carry him upstairs. The scared elf clung to him desperately, hoping he'd never let go. He also didn't want to take the chance he'd lose the precious ring again. He'd made a promise to Chris. Knowing he managed to let it get stolen once made him feel terrible. Even though Chris was dead, he still feared him just the same.

"I screwed up." He murmured.

"Oh, no, Baby. You didn't do anything wrong. Kettil was the one who hurt you." Shae reassured him. "You're my perfect angel. You can't do anything wrong in my eyes, okay? Don't say you screwed up because you didn't."

He whimpered, nestling his head into Shae's shirt. Yuki wanted to disagree but it wasn't worth the breath. Shae would always insist how perfect he was. He knew he wasn't. All he was was bad luck. The amount of tragedies that had happened around him were abnormal. How this manor hasn't burned down with him being in it this long is a wonder.

Shae brought him down to Finch's office. He knocked on the door, the doctor answering soon after. Finch gestured them inside the candlelit office. He was the one doctor in the house that none of the patients were scared of. Yuki could get used to Beau at least, considering that was his primary doctor.

"Let me see." Finch softly said. He had one of those voices you could trust, laced with a delicate Romanian accent. Shae pulled Yuki's hair back, revealing the mess on his eye. "Oh, my."

"That's what Beau said." Yuki muttered, "That bad?"

"Oh, no, no. Don't worry. I'll have you fixed up soon enough. I'll clean it out and stitch it up. You'll have to wear an eye patch until it's healed. I hope that's okay." Finch said.

"My hair will cover it." He murmured and smiled gently.

Typically, Yuki couldn't stay upset for long. He was never completely happy either but he managed a healthy smile. Finch retrieved a few supplies from the shelves. His office was rustic and classic, just like the others. He didn't keep many medical supplies in here considering many of their patients don't need those kinds of supplies.

Shae held Yuki in his lap to comfort him and keep him still. The doctor was as gentle as he could be. He stitched up the deep scratches the demon had created. Once he was done, he gave him a cloth eye patch to keep it safe from germs. Being as late as it was, they went straight to bed once Yuki was all fixed up.

The two lived in the furthest back bedroom of the Play Pin ward. Yuki was required to sleep there and Shae adjusted to that fact. He set his baby down on their martial bed. Shae went to the bathroom to go wash all the blood off his hands before they retired for the night.

Quickly, Yuki scurried to his jewelry box sitting on the shelf. He reached up and pulled it down. Opening it, he hid the ring under the scarf he kept in the bottom. He nearly panicked when he heard his husband returning. Yuki shut the box quickly, then jumped back into bed.

Shae walked out of the bathroom without a shirt on. His core was so toned, it was unreal. Yuki squeaked and smiled widely. The demon laughed, "Are you ready for bed, baby?"

Yuki made grabby hands towards him. His dominant smiled brightly and climbed on top of him. The little elf blushed and hid his face away with his hands. Shae pulled his hands back delicately and kissed him. Yuki intertwined his hands in his husband's red hair, feeling relaxed finally. His few hours spent away from him were awful, for both of them. They were beyond grateful to be back in each other's arms, in their own room, in a state of mind where no one could hurt them. Together, they felt like nothing could tear them down.
