Chapter 11 | Mind and Body

This room, it wasn't one that looked like an actual room. For a second Ryan was worried they'd stepped outside. However, he realized there really was four walls around him. It was hard to see the ceiling through the vines and moss growing down, but it was there. Through the thick, swampy grass that had formed on the ground, there was furniture with rotting wood. Most of it wasn't even green; It was black, brown, and red.

The place smelled like a swamp too. Suddenly, a body fell down from the thick vines. At first it startled him to see a being dangling there. Then the face of the victim smirked, showing a sinister smile. With her feet still tangled up in the vines, she swung back and forth with a small laugh.

"Get down from there." Shae growled.

"But I'm stuck." She replied teasingly.

Her voice was similar to Ghost's in the way that it was too high to be male but too low to be female. It was perfectly in between. She had a flat chest like a man's but curves like a woman. In the center of where boobs would be if she had any, there was a spider tattooed. Her black and maroon hair managed to defy gravity as she hung upside down.

"You and I both know that's not true. If you come down from there, I'll let you meet the new aid." He offered.

Dusk sighed, "Oh, I suppose."

She released her spell on the vines and landed perfectly on her feet somehow. Pulling out a cigarette from her back pocket, she snapped her fingers to get a light. Dusk was smaller but the amount of evil radiating off of her was enough for a hundred demons. She carefully stepped closer to her aids with a vixen's smile.

Dusk blew her smoke into Ryan's face, "Well, hello there. Dusk Asími, pleased to meet such a handsome gentleman."

"You're a sweet talker, I see." He replied, "Ryan."

"Cute. So, will you be treating me instead of sourpuss here?" She spoke gesturing her smoke towards him.

"I don't know yet. I'm only in my training right now and I haven't been told which patients I'd be assigned afterwards." He explained.

She placed her hand on his shoulder, smiling, "Well, I truly hope you become my caretaker. I'd enjoy getting to see such an enticing creature every morning and evening."

"That's enough, Dusk. Don't make me spray you with water." Shae said.

"I'm not a dog." She sneered.

"Then stop humping his leg like one. I don't have much time today for games, as there are very important things to attend to in the manor. Be a good girl and take your meds."

Dusk scoffed and turned away from them. She leaned over her bed, of which was torn to bits. With a smirk she looked over her shoulder at Ryan to make sure he was looking at her ass. She relaxed on her sheets on her stomach, taking drags off her cigarette.

"I've been feeling quite dizzy lately. I think it may be one of my medications." She mused like the snake she was.

"I'm not in the mood today." He deadpanned.

"We do have a very busy schedule, malady." Ryan charmed her with that smile that could get any woman, "I'd really appreciate it if you cooperated."

"Hm," She sat up, giving it some thought. Dusk sighed dramatically, "I suppose. But, only if you give them to me."

Shae rolled his eyes at the games being played. He wasn't much for them but whatever got his job done. "Fine, but be careful."

He handed a glass of water and a small dish with pills in it to Ryan. Cautiously, Ryan walked across the indoor swamp of a room to her bed. She handed him her cigarette to hold so she could down the medication. Afterwards, Dusk cropped the glass just to hear it break. The most maniacal grin met her lips when the glass and water shattered on the ground.

She placed her hand on his wrist delicately and guided his hand to her mouth. Dusk sucked down the smoke of her cigarette from between his fingers while looking up at him. Her dark red lips finished it off and she tossed the butt to the ground. Ryan turned away from her and stomped it out.

The witch had done what her species was best at. She left an impression that would haunt him. Ryan, of all people, was not one to feel violated when a woman made advances at him. Right about now he felt like he needed a bath in holy water. Now he understood why Shae called her a bitch. All he wanted to do was choke her for her little headgames.

"I'll send Angela in soon to clean up your mess." Shae grumbled.

"I hope to see you again soon, RyRy." She beamed.

He pushed the door back open, muttering, "What a cunt."

"They get worse." He responded.

"I'm surprised you let her have her powers." Ryan commented.

"There's dampeners in her cell so she can't teleport. I have to let her have a little bit though, to entertain herself. You don't want a psychotic murderous witch getting bored, even if she's locked up."

He sighed, "True. Who's next?"

Shae let his words fall short as they reached the door. He was truly a strong man but he didn't know the bed way to address this one. Ryan looked to the silver plate on the door, seeing his third oldest nephew's name. The way people talk about Ripper in this place worried him. They acted like he was one of the worst, as if he'd lost his mind.

"Perhaps you should stay here. I believe it would upset you too much." Shae said.

"No," He replied, "I need to see. Ghost is bound to find out he's here and I need to know before he does."

The demon was still reluctant, "Very well. Please do remember he's not the person you once knew. He's very angry and hostile."

"He gets that from his father. When he was younger, it was something we could joke about. In time, he got much worse than Ricky ever had been. I was worried he'd never stop getting worse. I guess I was right to worry."

Shae frowned, "I'm sorry. I truly hope someday we find a cure for him, but for now, we can only level him out with medication." He opened the door slowly, "Ripper, I've brought someone with me today. He's a new aid, but I believe you two already know each other."

Ryan hesitantly walked into the black and red room. There was blood and holes in the walls from Ripper hitting them with his head and fists. He'd written all over them too. It was complete nonsense, it seemed. Just scribbles of symbols and random words. For those who have to hear voices constantly, it helps them to go away.

Defensively, Ripper stood up quickly. He gritted his teeth to see his uncle. After all these years and all the abuse his mind had witnessed, he still remembered that face. Unfortunately, he was seeing those memories very differently than how they had happened. That was fuel to his anger, on top of many other things.

The rage Ryan saw in his dearest nephew's eyes made him realize just how much he'd changed. He only got a second for that thought to process before he found himself pinned against the wall. Ripper squeezed his neck tightly, yelling, "Why did you come here?!" He threw Ryan across the room, continuing, "Did you think you could make up for the fact that you abandoned us?! You left us to die! You left us to fucking die!"

"Ripper," Ryan coughed a bit on his now sore throat, "You and Knox left us."

"Don't talk about my brother that way! It's your fault! It's your fucking fault he's dead! It's all your fucking fault for running like the pussy you are!" He shouted.

When Ripper started to make moves towards his uncle, Shae had decided enough was enough. He pulled the cap off of a needle loaded with sedation. The demon leaped towards his patient, only to be thrown into the wall. Ripper stomped on the vile. It shattered, the medicine inside leaking out on the floor. He sucker punched his aid to keep him down.

No matter how enraged he was, one punch wasn't going to put down a demon. Once Ripper's back was turned, Shae bolted out of the room. He reached a panel on the wall in the hallway and flicked one of the switches. Then he hurried back inside to keep his patient from murdering his coworker.

"Ripper, stop this right now!" He demanded.

Those words had no meaning to the vampire. He didn't care of the punishments he'd receive. Currently, revenge for a crime that didn't even happen was more important. The damage the war had put on his mind resulted in him remembering things differently than how they'd happened. He had held an unfair grudge against his family for a long time now.

Ripper picked Ryan up by the neck with the intend of choking all the air out of his body. Micah rushed through the darkened hallways of the ward, hoping to help to stop that before it was too late. He burst into the room and joined Shae in trying to pull back the beast. They caught him off guard enough to get him off of Ryan but they couldn't get him down just yet.

"Tokyo!" Micah yelled, "Hurry up!"

"Sorry, sorry!" The younger hastily replied as he ran into the room.

This had unfortunately happened enough times that Tokyo knew exactly what to do. He grabbed the second dose of sedatives off the cart in the hall and brought it in with him. Using his unique abilities, he jumped up on the dresser, then hopped on his older brother. Ryan watched him as he remembered the man times he'd seen the little vampire fight with his spider monkey powers. He never thought he'd see it used for this though.

Tokyo leaped onto Ripper while the aids held him back. He plunged the needle into his neck and injected the sedative into his bloodstream. It took a few seconds to kick in. Ripper was consciously fighting falling asleep but eventually the medication took him. He relaxed, his body going limp.

"Uncle Ryan!" The youngest squeaked when he saw the full extent of what happened. He dropped to the ground beside Ryan to check if he was okay.

He waved away his nephew, "I'm fine. Just a little shaken. What're you going to do about him?"

"He'll be taken to a room where he can be restrained. Once he wakes up, his doctor and the warden will decide the right course of punishment." Shae explained, "Thank you for your help, Tokyo. I don't know what I'd do without you and your brother."

"Apparently I'm not nearly as important." Micah joked, scooping up the body in his arms.

Shae rolled his eyes, "Thank you, too, Micah. Even though it is your job." He offered his hand to Ryan and pulled him to his feet. "If anything like that ever happens to you again, there's a switch outside each door for emergencies. It's probably for the best you take off the rest of the day."

He shook his head, "I'm fine. I'd rather keep working than have to be stuck doing nothing."

"Christians believe idol hands are the Devil's workshop. Though I am not religious, I do believe that phrase to be true." Shae smiled, "The last two are not bad at all. Asher is more of a danger to himself than us, and Croc, I doubt he'd hurt you."

"No, but he'll probably call me a little bitch for getting my ass kicked like that." Ryan replied, to which the aid laughed.
