Chapter Seven
And here, the Sunnyflight vs Starspeaker war begins.
(Starflight's POV)
As my older sister, Fierceteeth, pulled the car to a stop in the school parking lot, I ran out with my backpack looped over one shoulder, my hands still clamped over my ears until I shut the door with my foot. Removing my hands, I sighed in relief. Mastermind, my father, wouldn't let me get a car of my own yet, so he always made my nineteen-year-old sister drive me everywhere. Fierceteeth didn't want to go to collage, so she still lived with us. And every time Fierceteeth drove me somewhere, she blasted the worst heavy metal music from every speaker in the car at top volume. Obviously I had to keep my ears covered to try to keep myself from going deaf.
"Starflight!" a happy voice shouted.
I immediately smiled, turning and waving. "Hi, Sunny!" Then I noticed the purple-haired girl behind her, with wide purple eyes and a big smile. "Hey, Fatespeaker! Nice to see both of you.
"You too, Starflight!" Fatespeaker chirped. She and Sunny were the perfect set of friends, both excitable, optimistic, and friendly.
"What's the special occasion? Normally I don't get a welcoming committee when I'm dropped off." I smiled. I had been in love with Sunny since I had first met her in my first year of middle school. Although, it was a bit crushing that she never showed any sign of liking me that way, so I had sort of stopped liking her as much. I knew that, at most, she thought of me like a brother. Why be hopelessly in love with someone for your entire life, instead of exploring your other paths? I was trying to keep an open mind, but I was just nervous, nerdy, weird Starflight.
"Just wanted to say hi," Sunny said. That smile of hers was as warm as her name. "And sorry you had to ride with Fierceteeth. I know that her music tortures you."
"It's fine," I mumbled uncomfortably. I hated talking about my living situation. My nineteen-year-old sister who already had a bit of a criminal record, and my dad, who had gone to jail at least twice before, for performing illegal science experiments. I honestly had no clue why the principal still let Mastermind teach the science class at Pyrrhia High.
"Wait, what kind of music does she listen to?" Fatespeaker inquired. None of my main friend group, which consisted of Clay, Glory, Sunny, and Tsunami that we had formed in middle school had known Fatespeaker until last year, but Sunny and her had become fast friends, but Fatespeaker still didn't know about my criminal family. Only my mother, Farsight, had been really good, but she was killed in a car accident when I was only six.
"Heavy metal" I replied, and Fatespeaker grimaced.
"Ew, no. Pop is so much better." Fatespeaker commented, and Sunny nodded in agreement. Apparently they even had the same taste in music. Twin souls, I always said. My point was proved once more.
"Give me some very quiet country music any day, if you must torture me with music at all." I disagreed.
"Oh, Starflight, don't be so boring!" Fatespeaker joked. "Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's almost time for class, so we should probably head in."
"Since when do you care about missing class?" Sunny laughed, and Fatespeaker elbowed her. Girls. I would never understand them.
The three of us walked in generally together, Sunny and Fatespeaker were in front, and I was a few steps behind.
I walked slowly, seeing as we still had a few minutes until class started. My first class was advanced history with Mr. Webs, the teacher everyone complained about being boring, but I actually thought he was fascinating. He was a good teacher, and I had never failed any of his classes. Actually, I had only ever failed one class. Science, in second grade. I had gotten a low score because I forgot to study the day before.
(Flashback)
Seven-year-old Starflight was clutching his report card, and Mastermind took it from him harshly, scanning it closely, pushing his spectacles up his nose.
"You failed science!?" Mastermind half-exclaimed, half-demanded.
"Ye-yes," Young Starflight stuttered, almost in tears at his father's anger.
"How? You're supposed to be good at school! What happened?" Mastermind growled.
"I-I forgot to s-study."
"Forgot! How could you forget? That's it, from now on you have to study every evening, and all your homework must be completed before you do anything, you hear me? Do you hear me?"
"Y-yes, Father," Starflight sobbed.
"Good. Now, never let this happen again, and you'll be fine. You might still have a chance to be a brilliant, wonderful, educated scientist." Mastermind gave his son a toothy grin, then turned away, muttering to himself. "Go on, I want you studying this entire summer too. Preparation for next year."
"Yes, Father," Starflight said meekly, dipping his head and silently walking upstairs and back to his room. While he was still heading up the stairs, Fierceteeth, or, a ten-year-old version of her, ran past him, heading downstairs. Shoving him against the wall roughly, she muttered to him, "Out of my way, brat." Starflight scurried up the stairs after she past, running to his room and shutting the door, sitting down at a desk and starting to work on the piles of papers and workbooks his dad had left for him.
I opened my eyes, not realizing I had fallen asleep. Wait. Fallen asleep? I looked around, bewildered. I was sitting in my advanced history class, right at the front where I always sat, my head awkwardly propped against my own shoulder. Luckily, Webs was looking at the board, and my two other classmates weren't paying attention either. I sneakily pulled my phone out from my jean pocket, checking the time. Phew, I thought. Only ten minutes into class. I managed to figure out what had already happened while I was asleep, and I payed close attention for the rest of class to make sure I didn't miss anything else.

(Deathbringer's POV)
I walked into the gym, ready for P.E., and I was just in time. Coach Kestrel walked in, her red hair in a tight bun, a clipboard in her hand. Kestrel was fairly tall, just like her daughter, Peril. Peril was in the same gym class as me, and she was nice enough. However, the better thing was, Glory was in this class too. I knew Glory didn't think of me as much, and I seemed joking, carefree, and one-sided to most people, but I had had a huge crush on her since second grade. Most people didn't know me very well, only my best friends, Riptide and Meerkat, got to have that privilege.
An earsplitting whistle broke my train of thought. Coach Kestrel was blowing her whistle, meaning we all had to come to the center of the gym so she could tell us what to do. A lot of the students said her gym class was torture, and I agreed that Coach Kestrel wasn't the nicest of coaches, but at least she knew what she was doing.
"All right, so, I decided, that for the second gym class for you all, we're going to play a game, and keep in mind that we are never doing this again. Principal Thorn made it required, but tomorrow it'll be a push-up contest, so that'll be sufficient enough, I suppose. Now, we'll be playing a game of dodgeball. Blue team versus red. I'll call the red team, others are on blue. I'm not explaining dodgeball. Now, red team is:"
Coach Kestrel rattled off about who was on the red team, and I recognized a few names. Glory, for one. Kestrel's daughter Peril was also on red, and Riptide got selected as well. I knew a lot of the people being called, but I wasn't friends with many. When neither Meerkat's or my name got called, we high-fived and walked over to our assigned side. Poor Riptide had to be alone on red, and I was pretty sure that blue team had some of the better players. Tsunami, for one. We also had Sunny, who had good aim, although not very strong throws. Red had Peril, although she probably would just being throwing a ton of balls randomly.
Coach Kestrel blew her whistle once, short and sharp to signal us to get ready. I crouched down, grinding my right foot into the floor of the gym to get a grip, crouching down into the starting position I used for track. Meerkat look at me, then said, "You're going to destroy them, aren't you?"
"That is the plan," I grinned, leaning forward and pushing off the ground into a sprint as Coach Kestrel blew her whistle, longer and louder this time, to signal the start of the game.
I knocked a bunch of balls toward our side when I reached the line before almost anyone else, and I ducked to avoid a ball thrown by Peril. This was going to be chaos.
I spotted Glory throwing a ball straight towards me, and I skipped sideways, grinning at her. I chucked my ball in her direction, and she caught it easily. She gave a half-smile at my shocked face, before I gave her a look of mock-anger, and went to join the line of people who were out.
The game lasted a full hour, and everyone was exhausted by the end. I had (finally) managed to get out of jail, and took down a fair amount of people before my leg had gotten hit by a hard-thrown ball. It had been fun, and no team really won, but then again, no one had ever really seen a competition. I was chatting with Meerkat and Riptide as we were walking in the halls back to the main door, and I spotted a flash of blue-green hair as Glory walked past. I got relentless teasing from my friends every day about her, of course, but of course I had my ways to get back at them. Maybe, I thought, just maybe, this is my lucky year.
There's Chapter Seven! I had to add Deathbringer's POV in there, and I needed to put a tinyyyyy bit of Glorybringer in there. The war between Sunnyflight and Starspeaker has started, and yes, there will be one of the two. Hopefully you enjoyed!
