Chapter One

(Glory's POV)

Ding! I quickly grabbed the piece of toast out of the toaster oven as soon as it beeped. If I waited any longer, I would be late for my first day of being a junior in high school. I hurriedly ran out of the mansion that belonged to my grandmother, Grandeur. However, Grandeur was hardly ever home, because she owned a huge business and was on business trips and at meetings all the time. So I was pretty used to living alone, ever since my older brother Jambu had gone off to collage.

I checked my phone for the time. 6:50! School started at seven thirty, and it was a good thirty-minute drive by my motorcycle, and that was counting on low traffic. Probably not very likely, not once I got into the city limits. I hopped on, grabbing my helmet and fastening it on before starting the motorcycle and driving away quickly. Grandeur had offered me a car, but I had turned her down, asking instead for a motorcycle.

(Thirty-five minutes later)

I parked my motorcycle, ripping off my helmet and smoothing my hands over my hair, before dashing across the parking lot, but as I approached the steps I slowed to a walk. No rush, Glory. Calm and composed. I told myself. Slinging my backpack over one shoulder, I headed into the school courtyard, where most of the other students were gathered. Since I was fairly tall, I could see over most people to look for my friends. I spotted the oh-so-annoying Deathbringer, who was always trying to flirt with me. The tall seventeen year old was the reining track and field champion, and was often described as 'deathly handsome'.

Moving through the crowd away from Deathbringer, I noticed another tall boy who was definitely Clay. He noticed me looking at him, and waved me over. As I walked towards him, I saw my best friend, Tsunami, plus my other two friends, Starflight and Sunny. When I got near, Sunny ran over and hugged me. I stiffened and the petite blond pulled away, probably remembering my dislike of physical contact.

"Hi, Glory!" Sunny said in her usual excited tone.

"Hey, Sunny. Clay. Starflight. Tsunami."  I greeted each of my friends in turn, smiling. I hadn't gotten a chance to see them over the summer, since Tsunami had been on vacation for half of it, and Starflight had probably locked himself in a library or something. Don't get me wrong, I like reading. Just not as much as Starflight. I don't know what Sunny and Clay did.

Clay smiled back at me, Tsunami was smiling as well, but she had a smirk hidden underneath. "So, Glor, late on your first day?" she teased.

"Nami, I was not late" I huffed. "I was five minutes early! Besides, it's not my fault my phone alarm was set half an hour late!"

"It very much is your fault, actually. Starflight, tell her." Tsunami responded.

Starflight didn't look up from the book he was reading as he answered. "It would be Glory's fault if she set it to that time, however, if someone else changed it, or it broke, or it just got reset somehow, then it would no longer be Glory's fault and the person at fault would be whoever changed it. Unless, of course, it was one of the other explanations, in which case it would be the phone's fault. Or whoever made the phone, or if Glory dropped it and it messed something up. And then it would once again be Glory's fault, but in a different way. Unless someone else dropped it, or messed with it, then it would be their fault. Or if Glory did somethi-" he got abruptly cut off by Tsunami. "Yes, yes, we get it. Anyways, we should probably get to our first classes soon. Because I just don't feel like detention right now, and what's the easiest way to avoid detention? To get there early! LET'S GO!"

I chuckled softly to myself. That was Tsunami for you. She likely didn't actually care if she got detention or not, especially since we still had a minute before they made us start getting to class. I think Tsunami just wanted to get away from Starflight's lectures, and I can't say I felt differently. He's a good friend, but he can be incredibly annoying sometimes. The first bell rung, and students started filing out of the courtyard and into the hallways, separating to head to their different classes. I had memorized my schedule, and I remembered that my first class was history, with Webs. I had gotten stuck with him in my freshman year, too, and he was possibly the most boring teacher on the planet.

The second bell sounded throughout the halls as I turned and walked through the doorway into my class. I recognized a few kids, like Riptide Wave, and Peril Flame. I took a seat at an empty desk in the middle row, by the wall. The desks were set up in a way that there were three rows, front, middle and back. There were two desks by each wall in each row, right next to each other, and two similarly placed desks in the middle. The chair next to me was empty, so I thought maybe I had lucked out, because it seemed like everyone was here. Ooooh, maybe I'll have two desks to myself this time. No such luck. A familiar tall boy with midnight blue eyes and black hair with silvery tips walked in and took the seat right next to me. Great. Now I not only had to sit right next to Deathbringer for an entire hour, but the arrangements on the first day often stayed as they were. So I had to do this for an entire year. I was sooo lucky, right?

I definitely did not also have a maybe crush on Deathbringer. I mean, he was super annoying and always flirting with me, and I had turned him down each of the twenty-two times he had asked me out. "So, Glory. Looks like we're sitting together for the rest of the year. Hey, you know what? If we have any other classes together, we could do the same thing." He flashed me his signature smug face.

"Nope. Nope. Absolutely not." I responded, even though I knew it wouldn't discourage him.

"Three times, huh? I guess you like me that much."

"Shut up, Murderbasket." I responded, using a name I knew that annoyed him.

"The fact that you know that name just shows how well you know me!" he gave me his smug face again. Looked like he wasn't backing down anytime soon.

"Whatever. Anyways, you have to stop talking to me, otherwise you'll get us both in detention." I pointed out.

"It'd be worth it, if you were there." Deathbringer said, and I suddenly realized that his face was all that far away from mine. I scooted my chair more towards the wall and turned my attention to Webs as he started taking attendance.

Deathbringer was continuously trying to get me to talk to him all throughout the lecture, which earned him detention. When Webs told him he had lunch detention today, I had smirked. Which somehow earned me detention too. More time with Deathbringer. Yay. And then Deathbringer gave me another smug face, even though he always called it his 'heroic face', I didn't see how it was heroic. Smug, yes. Definitely smug. Nami'll never let me hear the end of this, I thought, considering how much she already teased me about Deathbringer. I'd get payback though, with her crush on Riptide. When Webs let us go so we could head to our next class, I thought: This school year is going to be interesting. Little did I know how interesting it would get.

Woooo! First chapter! Yay me! And almost 1,300 words! The drama comes in the next few chapters, I promise! I hope you enjoyed. If you liked it, and would like to vote/comment/follow, I would appreciate it.
