Chapter Eight
(Tsunami's POV)
I was lying on my bed, playing a random game on my phone when I heard the message alert. I closed the game, opened my texts, and saw a new message on the group chat, which included me, Sunny, Clay, Starflight, and Glory.
Sunny: Hey guys! I don't know what you're all doing right now, but I was wondering if you wanted to get together and hang out as a group this afternoon?
Yes! Finally, something actually interesting to do. I quickly typed my response, having to go back several times because of typos.
Tsunami: YES PLEASE! I'M BORED OUT OF MY MIND RIGHT NOW
Glory: Fine with me, I'm pretty much doing the same as Tsunami. Being in a huge mansion isn't as fun as it seems.
Clay: Will there be food involved?
Sunny: I mean, we could go somewhere with food.
Tsunami: How about the park? We can walk, talk, and get some hotdogs or burgers or ice cream or something.
Clay: Hotdogs? I'm in!
Sunny: Sounds great!
Glory: Sure, why not?
Tsunami: Wait, where's Starflight?
Sunny: ... Good question, I have no clue.
Glory: Let's yell for him and spam his phone until he comes.
Sunny: Wait-no-Glory, don't!
Tsunami: Sounds fun
Glory: STAAAAARRRRFLIIIIIIIGGGGHHHHHTTTT
Tsunami: STARFLIGHT! IF YOU DON'T COME NOW I WILL EAT YOUR HOMEWORK
Starflight: I'm here, I'm here. Yes, the park sounds fine. I'll be there in five minutes.
Glory: I'll be there in around twenty-five, see you guys there.
I exited out of the group chat, and quickly ran to brush my hair, since lying on my bed had made it messy. Once I was completely ready, I ran downstairs, and bolted out the door. Coral was out, and Turtle and Anemone were out with their separate groups of friends, and Auklet was with Coral.
I jogged down the sidewalk to the park, which was about a five-minute run from where I lived. I walked into the grassy field with a forest to one side, benches scattered around, hotdog and burger stands, ice cream carts, and a playground where there were some little kids playing.
I looked around, trying to see if any of my friends were here, and I spotted a bit of bright gold hair. Sunny, I thought, walking over to the small, golden-haired girl."Hi, Sunny!" I said, causing her to turn and notice me.
"Hey, Tsunami! Is anyone else here yet?" Sunny asked, gesturing for me to sit on the bench beside her.
"Not when I arri- oh- wait, look, there's Clay and Starflight!" I answered, standing up and waving so that they would see us. "Glory'll be here soon, she's probably on her motorcycle."
Clay and Starflight jogged over, and Starflight did not look happy about any kind of running.
"Hi, guys!" Sunny said, standing up beside me and walking the rest of the way to the other two. Starflight shoved his long silver bangs out of his eyes, and I inwardly rolled my eyes. Starflight's enormous crush on Sunny had been desperately obvious to everyone except Sunny herself, ever since seventh grade. I had noticed, however, that he seemed to be giving up a little. Not much, but a little.
Together, the four of us waited on two benches for Glory to get there, Clay leaving once to get a hot dog. When Glory arrived, we all exchanged our casual greetings and got up to take a walk, all the while chatting. After around two minutes, Glory stopped in her tracks. I gave her a confused look. "What?" I asked.
"Look over there," Glory instructed me.
All four of us, me, Clay, Sunny, and Starflight, turned towards the direction Glory had indicated and I saw what Glory had seen first. A group of boys were walking and talking, pretty much the same as us. Riptide. Deathbringer. Meerkat.
"Seriously?" I asked no one in particular. "How do they somehow end up at the same place we are, all the time?"
"Who are those other people talking to them?" Sunny asked, and me and Glory both turned back towards the scene. Sure enough, there were three additional boys I hadn't seen before, one with dirty blonde/brownish hair, another with brown, and one with blonde. "Let's say hi," Sunny decided cheerfully.
"What? No!" Glory and I shouted in sync. Sunny, though, ignored our protests and walked forward, Clay and Starflight following her. Typical. Glory and I shared a glance, before following reluctantly. We both really didn't feel like interacting with certain people right now.
Deathbringer saw us first, and he nudged Riptide, who was standing next to him, causing Riptide to glance over. Meerkat also noticed us, and he broke off what he was saying as Sunny walked up. "Hi, Meerkat! Hey, Deathbringer and Riptide! Who are you guys?" she said, looking at the newcomers.
Before any of them could respond, the one with dirty blonde hair, and blue eyes, spoke instead. "I'm Apollo, this is Lotus and Scorpion," he said, gesturing to first the brown-haired one, next to the one with blonde hair. Both boys nodded their greetings to our group.
"All three of us are new to town, we moved over the summer. Met each other, started to hang out, and... yeah. Who are you guys?" Lotus spoke.
"I'm Sunny, this is Clay, and that's Starflight. The two hanging around in the back looking like they wish they could be anywhere but here are Glory and Tsunami." At Sunny's comment, both Glory and I bristled slightly, mostly from the fact that it was basically the truth.
"Hi," said Scorpion. "I'm assuming you guys all go to Pyrrhia High?"
"That would be us," Glory commented, flicking her hair out of her face.
"Cool, I suppose we'll be seeing you guys there, then." Apollo noted, taking a small step backwards. "We'd better go."
"All right, nice meeting you!" Sunny called as the group of three walked off, towards the main exit. As they went to leave, I noticed they each had seperate vehicles, but, oddly enough, I noticed Lotus was driving a lawn mower. I pointed this fact out to my friends, and Glory squinted at the figure driving away. "Last time I checked, lawn mowers weren't road legal."
"He probably found a way." I replied, turning back towards the rest of my friends.
"Well, we'll be going too. Nice seeing you guys!" Meerkat said, and after the boys had gone a few paces, Deathbringer said something to Meerkat, and I heard the loud smack! of Deathbringer getting slapped. I briefly wondered about what Deathbringer had said, before mentally shrugging.
"I have to get home soon, Coral's going to be furious if she finds out I left without telling her or something, and dinner'll be soon, meaning she'll be there if I'm not wise," I broke the silence with my words, and Glory looked over to me.
"We all should probably start heading back. See you tomorrow." Glory responded, and we all headed in our respective directions, but I walked with Glory to where her motorcycle was parked, since it was in the general direction of my house.
"And tomorrow," Glory added once the others were out of earshot. "Is Friday."
"What about Friday?" I asked, a confused expression coming over my face.
Glory gave me an exasperated glance. "Nami, you seriously forgot? Tomorrow is Friday, and that means your date is then, too. After school, remember?"
I felt my mouth drop open. "Oh! I completely forgot! Also, Glor, don't give me that look! It is not a date! Riptide just asked me if I wanted to go swimming!"
"Honestly, Tsunami. When a boy asks you do something, and probably go somewhere, just the two of you, it's called a date. Unless if your like best friends with a boy, like Clay, for example. That's not the case here, though."
"You sound like Starflight," I muttered grouchily.
"Now, get on home, fairy princess!" Glory grinned at me as she hopped onto her motorcycle.
"Fairy princess? Where did that one come from?" I raised an eyebrow at her, and she just smiled again, turning on her vehicle and driving away. I shook my head slowly, before turning and jogging the rest of the way home. When I went to open the front door, I found that it was unlocked. I tried to remember whether I had locked it or not when I left, and I was pretty sure that I had. Maybe Anemone or Turtle were home.
I walked into the house, and saw Coral standing there with a thunderous expression across her features. "Where have you been?" she demanded.
Finally, finally, finally! I know I promised this would be out on Monday, and it probably would have been, but the power went out at like 11:45 PM on Sunday night, and didn't come back on until Tuesday. Meaning that all throughout Monday, I couldn't turn on the computer to write. When the power finally did come back on, I was exhausted after being at a horse barn for around six hours, and all I really felt like doing was curling up on a couch with my dog. But, now Chapter Eight is here, and the next chapter won't be out until after I update my other books, but it will come. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed.
