Chapter 29: Safe

"Every human being needs to feel safe and secure in their lives."

-Kether Donohue

A frustrated huff lefts Jungkook's lips as he stared at the annoyed royal, his brown eyes watching as the prince ran a hand through his short chestnut locks.

News of your disappearance had spread throughout the palace like wildfire, the gossip of your kidnapping was on the tip of everyone's tongue and it disgusted Jungkook. As a servant, he was often subjected to the harsh judgement of the "higher-ups", but he never really minded, always knowing that it was mere gossip and nothing more....after all Jungkook wasn't the least bit interested in that sort of thing, the lives of other people never piqued his attention....but this time, he couldn't help but feel annoyance-anger.

They were all talking about you.

Taehyung had kept the reason of your disappearance a secret, more than likely not wanting to cause a panic among the people, however this left room for imaginations to wander and they most certainly did.

Some rumors stated that you had run away during the night, others said that you had come to be with child and Taehyung had sent you away in shame...that particular rumor didn't quite sit well with the servant...he knew you, and he knew the last thing on your mind was....having intercourse with the former king.

Still....he couldn't help but allow himself to question your disappearance...He had felt like the two of you had come to be close in the time that you had been there, so why would you leave without even saying goodbye to him? It didn't make any sense.

His stomach sank. What if something bad happened to you? What if you were hurt....or worse?

Something wasn't right and he knew it.

The way that Taehyung and Jimin would constantly have secret meetings with Yoongi...not allowing anyone else to enter, not even servants who usually filled their drinks or provided them with food. There was something darker going on....and he was determined to get to the bottom of it.

His large brown eyes moved to Jimin's form, watching as he studied over a few scrolls before him, dark bags resting under his reddened, tired eyes. He hadn't slept since you disappeared and it was obvious to Jungkook that he was worried terribly about you. He would constantly stay up searching through endless amounts of scrolls, trying desperately to get some kind of clue about where you were.

It worried Jungkook to see his old friend in such a state. He wouldn't eat, he wouldn't sleep, he barely ever looked away from the scrolls.

"Jimin."

Jungkook's voice came out in a soft whisper, barely audible, but the priest heard it loud and clear, his head snapping up to look at the younger male.

The servant let out a heavy sigh.

"What is going on? You're not eating, you're not sleeping....I'm worried about you."

Jimin offered him a small smile, to anyone else it would have seemed genuine, like Jimin was perfectly fine....but Jungkook knew better than that...he could see exactly how tired the young prince had become, how devastatingly scared he was.

"You needn't worry about me," Jimin's smooth voice stated. "I am merely studying the scrolls of our ancestors."

Jungkook sighed heavily, frustration evident on his features.

He was lying.

And Jungkook knew it.

"I do not understand why you are so eager to deceive me." Jungkook spat angrily.

Jimin's eyebrows quirked up in confusion at his friend's suddenly cold tone.

"Deceive you? Jungkook, you know me. I would not-"

"Spare me your lies, priest."

Hurt and shock pierced through Jimin's heart. He and Jungkook had been friends since Jungkook arrived at the palace as a boy. Jungkook had always been respectful towards Jimin, he would never speak out of turn or yell at him...the two were far closer than that...but the harsh tone that he had taken with Jimin was enough to make the royal stare with wide eyes.

"Jungkook, what has gotten into you?" He asked, standing from his chair in the candle-lit room.

The younger's chest heaved in pent up frustration, his nostrils flaring jaw clenching as his tongue poked the inside of his cheek, a habit he had developed when he was younger.

Jimin could tell that he was trying to contain himself and keep his composure, but he could basically feel the anger dripping off of him.

"Where is Y/n?" Jungkook's voice came out breathless but firm as his chocolate, brown iris'moved to Jimin's.

The chestnut-headed royal let out a heavy sigh at his friends question, his hand moving up to rub the back of his neck.

"I should have known that you would be the first to ask." He sighed out.

Jungkook stood unwavering. He was not going to leave until he had some sort of idea about where you were, he needed to know that you were safe...even if you weren't here.

"Listen, Jungkook," Jimin started in a deep voice, a heavy atmosphere falling over the room in which the two men stood. "I am not permitted to tell you....and trust me...it's better if you do not know."

This only made Jungkook's heart pound mercilessly in his chest, fear taking over his sharp features as he took a step forward.

"What does that mean? Is she hurt?"

Jimin sighed, shaking his head.

"You should leave Jungkook, and do not investigate this further, it could get you into serious trouble."

"No!" The boy roared out, causing Jimin's eyes to wide.

Jungkook had rarely ever yelled at him...he was a man of calm disposition, never allowing his emotions to show, even Jimin had a hard time reading his indifferent expressions. The way he had suddenly burst made the elder male aware of just how angry the servant was becoming.

Jungkook took a deep breath through his nose before speaking in a slightly calmer tone than before.

"I have been subjected to listening to idle gossip since her disappearance, I have done the best I can to remain calm and trust that you know what you're doing, but I can clearly see that you are just as scared as I am...and that is terrifying. I have to know that she's okay. I have to know that she is not in any kind of danger or else I shall not be able to think of anything else."

Jimin bit his lip, hanging his head down and staring at the numerous scrolls on the table.

"Y/n was.....taken from the palace...we believe that The Followers are behind her disappearance and they are planning to use her as some sort of sacrifice to Anubis."

Jungkooks eyes widened at the confession of the priest, his stomach flipping in absolute dread as his mind put all the pieces together. Ah, that's why everyone was so panicked and secretive...they were trying not to cause chaos.

Swallowing hard, the young man spoke.

"How long do we have before...." His voice trailed off slightly, unwilling to say the words that bounced around his head.

Jimin slowly raised his eyes to look at him, slightly in shock at the calm response, but then again he knew that this was simply Jungkook's way of dealing with things..

"We do not know for sure....we've been searching for days....and we haven't found a single thing." Jimin spat out the last few words, anger oozing from them. After all the time that had past their efforts were still completely useless in finding you.

He missed you, he missed you terribly. He missed your smile, he missed your voice, he even found himself missing your scent....The smell of honey suckle and rose petals would follow you wherever you walked, you would fill the entire palace with the sweet smelling aroma. Jimin had unknowingly become addicted to it...but since you were taken the palace had fallen back into it's original state: Quiet, dull, lifeless.

It almost seemed as though the sun had even begun to miss your presence...to Jimin, it did not shine nearly as bright as it did when you were around...even the Nile had begun to lose it's beauty.

"Oh, gods." Jungkook groaned out as he took a seat, his hand rubbing his face in despair."What if we're too late?"

The royal shook his head fervently.

"We aren't. We...We can't be."

"You should not have kept this from me." The young servant stated. "I can help."

Jimin offered him a small smile.

"I am truly sorry...I can only imagine how scared you are for her. The two of you are....close." The word tasted bitter as it came from Jimin's mouth. God, he hated how jealous he could become even at a tender moment like this, when your safety should be the top priority.

Jungkook merely nodded is head, ignoring how his heart fluttered at the priest's acknowledgement of your friendship with him.

You were the only one who genuinely cared about him...the only one who ever asked how his day was going... the only one who would sneak a few snacks to him even when he had constantly scolded you about almost getting caught.

It was almost comical...When he had first found you in the river...he could have never known that you would be this important to him...

Although he managed to keep a "non-caring" demeanor about you leaving. He was honestly scared out of his wits...he would lay awake at night and allow his imagination to go into a dark place. You were the only one that could bring out that side of him.

The only one that could make him smile.

The only one that could make him fall in love.

And he was going to bring you back.

Safe and Sound.
