Chapter 13: Bodies

"So many children living in grown bodies mimicking adult lives."

-Ijeoma

The throne room bustled with life as everyone spoke to one another worriedly, their faces lined with fear and slight confusion as they all watched you enter into the room.

You had been summoned to the throne room by none other than Taehyung, the handmaiden who fetched you said it was of high importance that you make it there immediately.

Confusion covered your face as you watched everyone stare at you, turning and whispering to each other when you made eye contact with them. You didn't understand what was happening or why you were even called to be here.

You held no government position and as far as you knew no one had threatened your life, so why had Taehyung called you to be here? Maybe he was just going back to his childish ways and was planning on humiliating you in front of the government officials.

The letter he wrote you last night seemed heartfelt and true, like he really did mean what he said. You didn't think he was capable of such a sincere apology, but when you read that letter last night you couldn't help but smile at the progress he was beginning to make in such a short amount of time.

Your blue eyes slowly moved over the room, stopping when they landed on Jungkook who was handing out drinks to a few of the men in the room.

You walked over to him, your eyebrows raising as he slowly turned to face you.

"What's going on?" You whispered, "Why is everyone staring at me?"

Jungkook bit his lip nervously, his chocolate eyes avoiding your gaze as he grabbed your wrist , pulling you behind one of the large pillars, hiding you from everyone's sight.

"You need to leave." He stated seriously. "Go back to your chambers and don't come out until I fetch you."

He turned to walk away, but you grabbed his arm, eyes filled with questions.

"What are you talking about? Am I in danger?"

A loud gong was struck, signalling the Pharaoh's arrival. Jungkook frowned deeply.

"It's too late for you to run, just keep your head down and don't say anything."

You watched him walk away from you and stand beside the other servants, his hands behind his back as he eyed you worriedly.

You stepped out from behind the pillar, and into the middle of the room. Something wasn't right, you could feel it in your gut.

Taehyung sat down in his throne, his arms laying flat against the golden arm rests as he stared directly at you, his eyes softening.

"I was sleeping comfortably in my bed, until I was woken up for this emergency council." His eyes moved to his officials. "Someone tell me what all of this is about."

One of the officials stepped forward, his eyes glancing to you for a moment before he began to speak.

"For the past year we have heard rumors about the Followers of Anubis trying to raise their master from the dead. As you know we have always brushed them off, because finding someone with innocent blood would be an impossible task for them to complete."

Taehyung nodded, his ringed hand resting underneath his chin.

"Then what is the problem? Anubis is a god, there is no way to "raise him" as they so wish to do. He has no physical being."He stated.

The man nodded his head, his frown deepening.

"That is what we believed yes. However our belief is that the gods of Egypt once roamed the Earth, ruling over their people with wisdom and mercy until their physical bodies died and their spirits began to watch us from above."

Your blue eyes moved over to watch as Jimin silently entered the room unnoticed, Jungkook immediately approaching him and whispering something in his ear. Jimin's gray eyes widened in horror, his hands shooting out in front of him as he blindly searched for something.

What was going on? Why was everyone so afraid and jumpy today? Why were you even there?

"I am failing to see your point." The Pharaoh said. "Do not speak vaguely."

The man gulped.

"We believe Anubis did have a physical being once and his body was preserved deep below our feet as punishment for his immortal crimes. That would explain why his followers have been caught digging so deep below the surface, they were trying to find his resting place."

Taehyung's eyes widened slightly, his body leaning forward in interest.

"What exactly are you trying to say?"

The man glanced back at the other officials, his head hanging low.

"The followers of Anubis have found his remains, and have raised him from the dead."

Everyone in the room let out a gasp as terror set in on their faces, their whispers becoming louder.

The young king did not look amused, his eyebrows were set into an angry expression as he stared down his government officials.

"Raising someone from the dead is impossible." He spat. "You have wasted my time."

The man shook his head.

"It is the truth."

Taehyung leaned back in his throne, his eyes falling onto you for a split second before moving back to his officials.

"Show me proof."

The man's eyes moved over to look at the servants, his head tilting in a "come here" motion.

The servants turned around and picked up a small medical hammock, both of them lifting it without any kind of struggle, a large, burlap blanket was covering whatever was laying on it. Your eyes studied it with curiosity. Was there a person under there?

The servants laid the hammock down in the middle of the room and moved away from it hastily, fear covering their faces.

You watched with piqued interest as the official walked towards the hammock, his eyes hard as he gulped, reaching for the burlap blanket.

Everyone seemed to be on the edge of their seat. no one could take their eyes of the sight as they watched the scene with curiosity and fear.

The man suddenly pulled the blanket off.

Your eyes widened and a loud gasp escaped your lips.

It was the same man from your dream, the same man who's organs and muscles had been stolen by that-that monster. His dead, dried up body was on display for the whole room to see. Women screamed in horror at the sight and you had to step back and cover your nose at the stench of his rotting body.

Your heart was pounding in fear. You thought that was a dream. How was this man really here? Did all of that really happen? Did that monster actually put a claim on you?

You could feel yourself growing physically sick, your head was becoming lighter the longer you stared at the dried up man in front of you, the smiled he wore that night still present on his decaying face.

Taehyung frowned at the creature, his eyes watching as you squeezed your blue eyes shut in fear and disgust.

"Cover that thing up!" He ordered. "I do not wish to look at it any longer."

The man obliged, laying the blanket back onto the dead man.

"We found him at their place of worship." He stated. "His internal organs and eyes were missing. We believe that Anubis was risen and has begun restoring his powers"

Taehyung rubbed his face in thought, his eyes squinting shut as he tried to process all of the information.

"One man's odd death is no cause for alarm." He stated. "We cannot know for sure that-"

"But he is not the only one, Pharaoh." The man interrupted. "People have been dying all over the city, each victim has been found exactly like him."

You felt sick to your stomach, you could barely stand to listen to it anymore.

Taehyung sighed heavily.

"We will put the city on high alert, put out a curfew. No one is to be out past sunset."

The man nodded, his eyes falling on to you.

"There is one more thing, your highness."

The young king raised an eyebrow, urging the man to continue.

"We believe the young goddess is responsible for Anubis' rising."

Your eyes widened, as did Taehyung's both of your eyes clashing with one another.

"That is preposterous!" Taehyung barked. "She has been under my watch since arriving here."

The man shook his head.

"None of these deaths began to happen until she arrived here. Her power has surged throughout the Earth and given Anubis the strength he needed to be risen. Whether it was intentional or not, her power rose him from his slumber."

You couldn't speak. Your mouth became dry at his accusations. hat if he was right? What if all of this really was your fault? After all, you watched him be arisen, you saw everything happen, but you weren't even there. Did you and Anubis share some kind of connection in this universe?

You didn't defend yourself, because he could be right. This could all be because of you.

"Are you even listening to your words?!" Taehyung shouted. "We do not even know if she is a goddess, she has still failed to prove her powers to me, and even if she were, none of her actions have shown any reason for me to doubt her good character. I trust her."

The man scoffed.

"Anubis will not stop until he has regained his power, and if he gets that woman in his grasp, he will be unstoppable. You may believe that she was brought here to restore the stars, but in reality,

She was sent here to tear the heavens down."

A/N,

I'M BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER! MY MIND IS FLOWING WITH IDEAS AND WRITERS BLOCK CAN SUCK IT!!!!!

I am also feeling better. Thanks for all your kind wishes, they meant alot.

I was thinking about doing a "character Q&A" for this book, but I am not 100% into that idea right now. Maybe if the Followers of Drake post questions for the characters/me I'll do a Q&A. We will just have to see.

ALSO

I want to have a sort of competition. You don't have to participate, but I though the idea was cute. I would like for everyone who wants to, to post a small oneshot based on any of my books. I want it to be about the characters and reader celebrating Christmas in their own little way. You can use any of your family traditions in the story and leave a little piece of yourself in there, this will help me get to know you better. (If your oneshot is long message me and I will send you an email to send it to.)

Myself and two others will be judging your works, the winner will get a shout out on all three of our walls, a shout out in our book AND each of the judges will follow the lucky writer. We will also read any other stories you may have published and vote on every chapter, and give our favorite work of your a shoutout on our wall. I will post the winning oneshot in this book.

I really love this idea, and I hope all of your will participate and share the Christmas spirit. I may also do a second and third place, it all depends on how many of you enter.

I LOVE YOU AND GOOD LUCK!!!!

-Max
