Chapter 10: Family

"Family is one of nature's masterpieces."

-George Santayana

Silent tears streamed down your cheeks as you stared at the small pond of water in front of you, it's clear blue waters calming. You wiggled your toes in the cool, blue water, trying to get your mind off of the events that happened in your room.

After Taehyung had left, he stayed true to his word. He sent in the handmaidens who began to pack all of your things and take them to the Pharaoh's bedroom which was on the highest floor of the palace. He room had the largest balcony that over looked the entire city. It was far more lavish than yours.

You had gone to see Yoongi after Taehyung's fit of rage. You didn't know why you wanted to see him, maybe you felt guilty, or maybe you just needed comfort, but either way, your presence was not wanted by the general.

"This is your fault." He had said. "If you hadn't asked me to stay, if you had just left me leave, neither of us would be in this predicament."

You could still remember the look of hurt in his hazel eyes.

"You cannot even begin to understand how embarrassing it was for me to be whipped on behalf of some whore. I am the head over his armies........... you are nothing."

You shook your head trying to rid yourself of the painful memories. He was right. Maybe you were something special in The Four Kingdoms, but you had no power, you had no position, you barely even had a name. You really were nothing.

It was your fault. All of it. All of this could've been avoided if you had just stopped being so stubborn and rebellious.

"You should never cry alone, maiden." A soft voice spoke. "People always find out about it."

You slowly tore your eyes from the pond in front of you, moving them up to see the visitor.

Jin smiled widely at you, as he sat down beside of you.

You moved your gaze back to the pond, not being in the mood to talk to anyone at the moment.

"It is a shame to see such a beautiful woman so upset." He stated.

Your lips turned upward briefly. He reminded you of the old Jin. Even in another universe, he was still flirting.

"What is the matter?" He asked.

You sniffled, shaking your head.

"It's not a problem you can solve."

He smiled widely, tilting his head.

"Why don't you let me be the judge of that?"

Your eyes moved to his, your eyebrows raising in slight interest, before you sighed heavily.

"Someone I care about was hurt...and it's all my fault." You said as you hugged your knees to your chest. "He was only trying to protect me, but he got hurt, and now he hates me."

The dark-haired man nodded his head in understanding, his own feet dipping into the pool.

"That is quite the predicament." He said. "I'm sure it wasn't your fault, your friend is only angry with himself, not you."

You laughed sarcastically, wiping some of your fallen tears.

"He said I was nothing." You stated. "And if I'm being honest, I believe him."

Jin's golden-brown eyes snapped to you.

"Sometimes, when men can't protect the people they care about, he act out, we take our anger out on people we care about because we cannot take it out on ourselves. He may have said those hurtful words to you.....but he words were only reflecting the hatred he feels for himself."

You slowly looked over at him, blue eyes scanning his face as he stared at you sincerely.

"Why are you being so nice to me?" You asked."You don't even know me."

Jin offered you a small smile, his hand gently reaching your face, using the pad f his thumb to wipe away your tears.

"You are correct. I know nothing about you, I do not even know your name. But I do know one thing."

He paused, removing his hands from your face.

"Anyone who cares this much about someone can not possibly be a bad person. It simply is not fathomable."

You couldn't stop more tears from falling from your eyes. You realized that this version of Jin was a complete stranger and you knew that you had no idea who he was or what his intentions were, but you need so desperately to hear those words. You needed to know that you weren't a bad person.

"Thank you." You breathed. "I really needed to hear that."

Jin smiled.

"You're welcome." He said. "Now, why don't you tell me how your friend was hurt."

The throne room doors slammed open, the loud creaking catching Taehyung's undivided attention as he sat up straight in his throne, preparing for anything.

Jin stormed in, his nostrils flaring in anger as he approached the Pharaoh, who was surrounded by government officials.

"Leave." Jin spat. "All of you."

They all quickly scurried to get out of the room, none of them willing to face Jin's wrath. He had a history of being quite unforgiving when he was angry, he was not the type to get so agitated so easily, but one thing always managed to tick him off......and that thing was Taehyung.

"Ah, cousin," Taehyung greeted with a sarcastic smile on his face. "I trust you had a nice trip, I've heard that the upper Nile is beautiful this time of year-"

"Silence." Jin's voice was solid and stern as he stared at the spoiled Pharaoh.

Taehyung raised an eyebrow in amusement.

"I was gone for five days," Jin started. "I was confident that you could rule well enough without me here, I was sure you had matured enough to put your people before yourself....but obviously I was wrong."

Taehyung sighed, laying back in his throne.

"I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about."

The dark-haired man scoffed, rolling his eyes at the Pharaoh's words.

"I met your little goddess."

Taehyung's attention was immediately undivided, his eyes staring straight at Jin.

"What has taken a hold of your mind?" Jin asked. "I talked to the servants. They told me about your bet with the high priest, they also say that you have been constantly abusing her, claiming her as your property."

"So what if I have?" Taehyung asked. "As far as I'm concerned, she is exactly that."

The dark-haired royal stepped forward angrily.

"You self bloated child." He scolded. "You are treading on dangerous waters, messing with a goddess is-"

Taehyung chuckled.

"She is no goddess. The deal with the high priest was only a way to amuse me and distract me from my boredom."

Jin glared at the Pharaoh.

"And what if she is? What if she proves her power to you? If she is truly a goddess then she could bring down terror upon you and this entire kingdom. Do not tempt the gods, cousin."

Taehyung stood to his feet.

"I am a god!" He yelled. "I am all powerful, I control everything. The reason this country prevails is because I sit on the throne."

"You are wrong." The dark-haired man said. "You are nothing but a fool. Your actions of jealousy and envy have brought ruin upon you."

"What do you mean?" Taehyung asked. "I am thriving with power. I have everything I want."

"You have no mind for politics. Every action has a consequence. You took the head of your armies and beat him like a common slave. You have shown all of our enemies that you have no trust in your own general, and they will take that as an advantage. They'll come for you when you are at your weakest, and you will perish, because you could not control your temper."

The Pharaoh glare down at his cousin, clenching his jaw.

"I did what was necessary. He knew the penalty for touching my things. He deserved to be hurt like that."

"And what about her?" Jin inquired. "Did you mean to make her suffer as well? You harsh actions have taken an effect on her, just as much as Yoongi."

Taehyung shrugged.

"She needed to be reminded of her station."

"Listen to yourself. This woman- this goddess- she is not from here, she is a stranger to all of us, but you and everyone expect her to wake up and immediately understand everything about our way of life. She is thrown in the middle of a bargain she did not commit to and you are constantly forcing her to see herself as your property."

Taehyung bit his lip, lowering his eyes to the floor.

"Why is she so special?" Jin asked. "You are the Pharaoh, you have the most beautiful women at your disposal, but the servants tell me you have not touched a single woman since she arrived."

Taehyung sighed heavily, plopping his body down onto his throne.

"She said my name." He breathed.

The dark-haired man's eyes widened in shock at his cousin's words.

"Your real name?"

The young Pharaoh nodded.

"When she looks at me, I do not feel like the Pharaoh anymore, I feel like Taehyung. She is nothing like my other whores. She is constantly talking down to me, telling me that I am wrong. She does not hesitate to talk back and state her opinion, and most of the time it infuriates me, but I cannot help but be drawn further into her. She is like the Nile, always flowing, always moving and bringing life with her, but never changing, never once moving from her morals or her values."

Jin frowned deeply at his cousin's word's.

"Swallow whatever you think you are feeling." He spat out. "That woman is not your destiny and it would be best if you realize that now. If you begin to care for her,

you will bring doom upon yourself and this entire kingdom."

ANNNND

I know that this isn't 100% necessary, but screw the rules, it's my book and I can do what I want. (#gangstalife)Someone mentioned to me that giving you readers a "fanbase name" would be pretty cool, so I'm throwing the idea out there.

@my_mysteriosness suggested that all of you be called "Followers of Drake" and I'm kind of digging it.

I LOVE YOU ALL

-Max
