Chapter 1: Stories
"We tell ourselves stories in order to live."
-Joan Didion
Stories.
Every human on Earth has one.
We tell them around campfires to scare little children, we tell them to each other when we are recounting our day to loved ones, we tell them to our children as we lay dying, telling them of "the good old days". Stories are never ending. Every story ever told has been documented and taken note of somewhere.
Stories are the essence of human existence. We learn from them, we fear them, and, most importantly, we remember them
Everyone has a story.
And if your story is great,
it is remembered forever.

The hot Egyptian sun beat down on Jungkook's back as his tired feet slowly carried him to the river. His arms holding two woven baskets, his mind focused on checking the traps for fish. He worked as a servant in the palace, serving in the kitchen and occasionally helping with other small tasks that no one else wanted to do.
He was a "no nonsense, cut-to-the-chase" kind of guy. His whole life he had been blunt and to the point. He hated when people would beat around the bush, or not be straight forward with him. It always managed to annoy him.
His straight forwardness had gotten him into trouble numerous times, though. A servant speaking his mind was not smiled upon in Egypt. He was constantly being whipped and beaten for his words. But Jungkook wouldn't dream of changing himself. It wasn't in his nature.
A sigh moved past his chapped lips as his rough, bare feet met the cool water of the Nile. This was his favorite part of his job. The water relaxed him and put him at ease. This part of the river was off limits to anyone outside of the palace, which meant that most of the time Jungkook was alone out there.
He didn't mind it though, no one was around to scold him or tell him what to do. It was simply peaceful.
The dark-headed servant slipped deeper into the water, his sun-kissed skin relaxing as he made his way to the fish traps.
His brown gaze slowly traveled over the extent of the clear, blue water, just relaxing and taking in the sight.
His eyes suddenly stopped moving as they landed on something unfamiliar floating in the water.
The servant squinted his eyes, trying to be sure they weren't deceiving him in any way.
Was that....a person?
"This area is private!" He yelled. "If you do not wish to be punished, then you should vacate immediately!"
The floating body didn't seem to move, causing the dark haired boy to sigh in frustration, his body beginning to trudge through the cool water of The Nile, as he slowly approached the motionless person.
"If the Pharaoh finds out a peasant was in his private area, you'll be-"
He cut himself off, his eyes widening slightly as he finally got a clear view of the body.
The woman floated on top of the water, unconscious, her body adorned with odd clothing that Jungkook had never seen before. From the looks of her wrinkled finger tips, she had been in the water for at least ten minutes.
She definitely wasn't from here. He hadn't seen you around the palace, or even in the market place, the way you dressed certainly would have caught his attention.
He placed his finger under your nose, trying to see if the woman was still breathing.
She was, but barely.
Panic shot through Jungkook's body. He didn't need anyone dying in the Pharaoh's drinking water, it would contaminate the precious Nile.
He quickly hooked his arms underneath her shoulders, pulling her across the top of the water, until he reached the bank of the river. Using his arms, he managed to drag he completely out of the cool water and onto the hot sand beside of it.
His eyes raked over her body.
Her shirt was a light cream color, that dipped low in the front, the water had pulled the loose fabric off of her down slightly, revealing her tanned collar bone and sun-kissed shoulders. A small necklace hung from her neck.
It was a simple leather strap with a small vile of blue liquid tied at the end.
She didn't wear the skirts that all women in Egypt wore. Her legs were adorned in brown trousers, made from a material that seemed to be close in texture to that of a horses saddle.
Her hair was not styled like most women's but was left down, which was something he hadn't seen before.
He studied her face carefully, his eyes trailing down her forehead, and scanning over her long lashes and cute little nose, before resting on her plump, pink lips.
She was beautiful to him, which struck him as odd. He had seen many of the Pharaoh's concubines and they were esteemed to be the most beautiful women in the whole world, but Jungkook didn't find beauty in any of them.
The servant tilted his head to the side.
Who was this woman? And why was she here?
The young man found himself leaning closer to your face, trying to search for any clue as to where you may be from.
Your eyes shot open, your body shooting upwards as you gasped for breath, your head colliding with Jungkook's nose harshly as your hand came to rest on your heaving chest, your blue eyes searching around in horror.
The brown-eyed servant groaned in pain, his hands holding his now bloody nose as he squeezed his eyes shut in pain.
A fit of coughs overcame you as you began to shiver, from the cool wind that blew onto your wet body. You looked at him with slight panic.
Your heart instantly recognized him as the golden prince from the previous universe, but your mind told you that he wasn't the Jungkook you knew from before, he was completely different.
"I think you may have broken my nose." Jungkook stated, his voice muffled slightly by his hands.
You cleared your throat awkwardly, trying to avoid looking at him.
"Sorry about that."
His eyebrows raised at your curious way of speaking.
"That is a terrible apology." He stated blankly.
You shrugged, shakily standing on your feet, your legs weak and wobbly from being in the water too long.
"Well if you hadn't been in my face like a pedophile, I wouldn't have hit your nose."
The servant once again eyed you in confusion.
"I don't know what a "pedophile" is."
You couldn't help the small smile that broke out on your face at his words. This reminded you of the other Jungkook....your Jungkook.
"Don't worry about it." You told him.
Jungkook stood up slowly, his hands reaching for the thin, white sheath that he had stripped himself of before entering the river.
He slid his arms through the arm holes and wrapped the thin material around his upper body.
You tried hard not to look at his toned torso or his broad shoulders, which were freckled from the sun.
"How did you get into this area of the river? It is closed off from peasants." He stated coldly.
You sighed.
"It's a long story and trust me.....You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
You turned to look at him, your blue eyes finally meeting his.
His chocolate orbs widened as he stared at the unique color of your eyes, he had never before seen any other human with such bizarre iris'. Fear and intrigue moved through his body as he continued to stare at the odd, icy color.
You blinked in confusion.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
He swallowed hard.
"Y-Your eyes...."
You frowned, rubbing your temples.
"Not here too." You mumbled to yourself.
"What are you?" Jungkoook asked. "Are you a magician? A trickster?"
You sighed, shaking your head.
"No. I-"
"Have you come to kill the Pharaoh?"
You raised your eyebrows.
"What? No! I just-"
"Then how are your eyes.....that strange color. That color is used by priests only to bring praise to the gods...How is it in your soul?"
You couldn't help but stare at him, dumbfounded. Has no one ever seen blue eyes before? Geez.
"Look. I am not a magician, or a trickster, my eyes are this way because my life has taken a strange turn of events and-"
Jungkook cut you off.
"One does not simply change eye color." He stated. "You must be some oddity of nature...."
You sighed, rubbing your neck.
"I suppose you could say that...."
His hand suddenly made contact with your wrist, his body pulling you towards the great stone palace.
Your eyes widened.
"What are you doing?!" You shouted.
Jungkook continued to pull you with him.
"I am taking you to the high priest, if anyone can find out why you have the color of the gods, it is him."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You gulped in fear as your blue eyes scanned the dim hallway you walked in. Torches lined the walls, giving you just enough light to see the paintings and symbols carved into the stone of the Egyptian palace.
Jungkook had managed to sneak you into the great structure through the busy kitchen. He insisted that you be shown to the high priest. This was the only way to know what you "truly were".
You didn't want to be here. You didn't want to see some priest and you didn't want to be stuck here any longer than you had to. You had a job to do and you intended on finishing it, and getting back to the other universe.
The hallway ended, leading you to a large open space, lit with large torches and candles. The room was filled with flowers and perfumes, the smells invading your nostrils the second you entered.
It was obviously an offering place of some kind, probably were the high priest gave sacrifices to "the gods".
A man stood in the middle of the room, his back turned to you as he softly spoke to himself, his robes were a deep green color, with designs of blue and gold covering the silky fabric.
Jungkook's garments were old and well-worn, white being the only color. You could easily tell the difference between their station. It was clear that Jungkook wasn't of any importance to this place, while the high priest was high in authority.
Jungkook released your wrist, slowly approaching the mumbling man.
"Jimin, I need your help." he said quietly.
Your eyes widened, as you watched Jungkook gently touched the elders shoulders.
Jimin was the high priest!?
Jimin slowly turned his head in Jungkook's direction, his hands laying down the large book.
"It's been a while since you have come to see me." He stated. "It must be important."
Jungkook nodded.
"It is." He sighed. "This woman has the god's color in her eyes."
You watched as Jimin's eyes widened in shock, his hand meeting Jungkook's shoulder.
"Lead me to her."
You raised your eyebrows in confusion as you watched Jungkook slowly lead the chestnut- haired male to you, his eyes moving all over the room in frantic motions.
Jungkook stopped in front of you, taking Jimin's hand from his shoulder and putting it on yours.
Jimin still didn't look you in the eyes, but he looked in your general direction, his pupils never settling on one place.
"I'm going to touch your face," He stated gently. "Don't be frightened, that is the only way I can see you."
Your eyes widened in shock and slight terror as your mind finally processed his words, everything clicking together.
He was blind.
Jimin's soft hands slowly left yours, climbing up your shoulder, caressing your neck lightly, before landing on your face.
His fingers traced every part of you as his dull, grey eyes stared over your shoulder.
"You are very pretty." Jimin stated with a smile. "Jungkook likes the pretty ones."
"Hey!"Jungkook yelled.
Jimin released a quiet chuckle, his fingers gently landing below your eyes.
"Close your eyes."
You did as you were told, and gently shut your eyes.
Jimin's thumbs softly caressed your eyelids, closing his own eyes as he tried to figure out Jungkook's panic.
A sudden wave of powerful energy flowed from your body and into Jimin, causing him to gasp and stumble back.
Your eyes shot open, eyeing the high priest with worry, as Jungkook grabbed his shoulders to steady him.
"Are you okay?" Jungkook asked, his gaze falling to you. "Did the woman do this to you?"
Jimin shook his head, his chest heaving as he slowly opened his gray eyes.
"She is no mere woman," He started.
"She is a goddess."
