Chapter 27

"What is your problem? Chahti kya ho tum?" Ratna spat. (What exactly do you want?)

"Ma.." Anjali was taken back by the tone her mother used on her. Being the only girl child of the family, she was pampered alot. Never has anyone raised their voice on her.

"No.. tell me. You cannot stay happy with your husband. You cannot see your brother happy either with that girl. But just know how to put allegations on others-"

"Chotti!!" Nani raised her voice asking her daughter to stay calm.

"No Ma. What do I do? Tell me? I didn't had a happy married life doesn't means my kids have to face the same. This girl, here, thinks her husband is cheating on her with the girl he thinks as his sister. Seriously Anu, did you even ask him? Did you give him a chance to keep his words. To clarify himself and thus the misunderstandings? Did you?" She asked and Anjali went silent. She really didn't let him clarify himself. But she did ask him many times.

Anjali looked over Aman whose head was lowered down. He was sniffing.

"Aman." She whispered. Aman raised his head and looked at her with red eyes.

"You think her... her of as your sister?" She merely whispered and he nodded barely. She stumbled back on her step in shock.

"Sister." She whispered. The silence fell over.

"But then why didn't you tell me the truth."

"As if you ever will listen him. Did you ever give him a chance to speak." Ratna mocked.

"Ma.." Aman cut her in middle. "Please."

"See, look at this boy. He cannot take it if I scold you and you were accusing him. What had gotten into you Anu?" Ratna shook her holding her arm.

"I am sorry."

"Apologize to him. He is the person whom you had hurted to no end." Anjali looked at Aman with guilty filled eyes.

"Ma?" Arnav whispered. Ratna sighed and looked at him with soft eyes.

"Please, calm down. Let them sort this out." Ratna nodded at him.

"Please go and have a conversation. Sort this out and then tell us your decision." Ratna announced.

Aman nodded and both of them left.

"You rest for now. We need to talk after that." Ratna looked serious. Arnav nodded a bit, scared for what was coming.

Aman and Anjali stepped outside and sat on the bench in the hospital garden. A silence surrounded them except for the early morning chirping of birds.

"Aman." Anjali initiated and Aman gulped. "Please look at me." Robotically, he looked at her but his eyes were red.

"I-I am s-sorry." A sob escaped her mouth.

"It's ok. Now lets get inside." He stood up to leave. But Anjali held his hand. He looked away and wiped a tear that ran down his cheek. He couldn't see her crying. It was his weakness.

"No. Please Aman. Please look at me. Talk to me. Scold me. Slap me but don't ignore me." Anjali held his cheek and made him look at her.

"I am so sorry. I-I don't know what got into me. Please I promise this won't happen again. I promise. I will trust you-"

"You already broke my trust Anu. And you believe I would forget everything. Do you know how much I love you... and only you. No, you don't have any idea!"

"I know. Please I am sorry Aman. I love you too. Please. Just this once. I beg you. Please, please forgive me." She cried.

"I am tired Anu." Anjali looked at him with expectant eyes.

"I never told you this but do you know I had fallen in love even before I met you." Aman turned around, now facing her. "I had once seen you in a party where I worked as a waiter." He stopped to look at her expressions. And she was shocked.

"Yes, before working for your brother, I worked as a waiter and a mechanic to meet my ends. I saw you almost a year ago before we actually met through Arnav. I was a waiter in that party. You were there with your family. You had worn a baby pink off-shoulder gown with your hair tied in a messy bun. I just couldn't remove my eyes off you. It was Love at first sight for me. I had captured your image in my heart and then one of my colleagues helped me to get your picture from the CCTV. I printed it and kept it to myself." Aman fished out his wallet and showed her a folded paper in his secret pocket. Anjali gasped looking at her picture.

She was laughing covering her mouth. She realized that she had worn the same outfit as described by him. It wasn't clear and the ink had almost started fading away. The edges of the paper started were torn as well.

"I had later got similar picture from your phone after marriage and framed it for myself because this was the girl I had fallen for. Later on Arnav hired me on the basis of my qualifications. We became good buddies. We would hardly hide anything from each other but this was the only thing I hid from him. I didn't knew you were his sister. When I had got job here I saw a family photo in his cabin. That's when I realized you were his sister."

"I couldn't tell a brother that I love his sister. Why would he marry off his sister to his employee. But then one day he found out because I have been looking at your picture. I told him the truth and he was angry. He took the picture away from me. I requested him to let me keep the picture but he didn't comply."

"I know how hard it was for me to live for three months without your picture. I was like a walking corpse but never I showed hurt on my face. And one day as if God pittied on my state, he again showed me your glimpse at a party that Arnav threw. Again I couldn't resist myself from ogling at you but Arnav caught me yet again. I felt ashamed and feared he would expose me because he warned me last time. He dragged me to the family and than introduced me to them."

"Remember why I had been nervous and stuttering speaking to you. All because I was nervous and afraid." Aman wiped his tear struck face and looked at Anjali.

"You know when Arnav brought your proposal for me, I was a mess. I mean you don't deserve a waiter as a husband. You deserve a man who is perfect for you but not me. Never me. And I guess that is why we are here-" Anjali kept her palm on his mouth and shook her head.

"I love you and not your work Aman. I don't care if you're a waiter or mechanic or work under my brother. All I do care is that I love a man who loves me back. I had dreamt of a man who loves me and not my wealth. And I got that in you. Initially I had some doubts on you but when I got to know you in person, I knew he was my man."

"Please Aman-"

"I am sorry Anu. I had hid my true identity till date. I never told you about my past work and life."

"Don't embarrass me by apologizing." Aman held her cheek and caressed it.

"I am sorry that I had slapped you that day."

"No. I deserved it... Wait!! Just Slap me again." Anjali spoke.

"What!! No way." Aman withdrew his hand from her cheeks.

"No. You have to slap me. I deserve it. But just don't leave me."

"Ok. I am not slapping you. But I can give you a punishment."

"Anything but leaving me."

"Ok. Than all sorted between us. No divorce?"

"No divorce." Anjali held his arm and rested her head against it while Aman laid his head on her's untwining their hands.

They sat like that for some time and then went inside to tell everyone their decision.
