Chapter 25
Later in the night when there was complete silence spread around, with only Aman and Akash staying back with Arnav, Khushi tip-toed to Arnav's room. Pushing it open slightly to avoid any noise, she peeked in to see Aman resting on the couch and Arnav sleeping on the bed.
Coming inside she slowly closed the door and reached him. He seems to be sleeping peacefully. She pushed back a sob that escaped seeing his state, although he was much better than before.
That's all because of me. I wish it was me on this bed. Me to take the bullet.
She sat beside him on the stool, held his hand softly and rested her forehead against it, closing her eyes. Arnav got alarmed and looked around to see Khushi. He was happy beyond words but immediately acted sleepy seeing her moving her head as if he is fast sleep as a log when he saw her raising her head to him.
"Arnavji, I am sorry. I am so sorry. Just because of me you had to go through all of this. You took a bullet for me. Why would you do that?"
"Simply, because I love you." He said in mind.
"Speak aloud." His heart whispered to him.
"No. Are you insane, what about the family." His mind argued.
"What about them? They will br happy as well." Heart asked.
"Why would you Arnavji, why are you so helpful and caring towards me. You gave me a job on absolute no qualifications. Then you were so much helpful in each and every job you gave me at work. You would never yell at me, accuse me, bad-mouth me nor hurt me like others. That was what made me... made me fall for you... so deep in the heart.." She said, tears flowing and dropping onto his hand.
Hearing her confession his heartbeats raised even if it was possible. He just couldn't believe his ears, what they heard. He wanted to embrace her in his arms and yell 'I love you too' number of times but stopped hearing her next words.
"But look at the irony, a poor, broken, orphan girl fell for a wise, honest, happy, helpful, caring and a handsome man. The girl who doesn't deserves him but yet the man never fails to show his kind heartedness, charm making her fall for him more and more. I am not even good enough to be your maid. I don't even deserve to walk on the path you cross. I know I am being selfish by staying here but believe me, believe me I am helpless. I don't have anywhere to go, anyone whom I could trust. I... I am so alone. I don't know why, but I just feel safe around you. I-I love you Arnavji." Khushi finally kept her heart infront of his sleeping figure, making Arnav still.
She lov... Loves me. She loves me. She loves me. She loves me.
He kept chanting in his heart.
"Comeon, get up you fool and tell now." His heart spoke and finally he agreed hitting his mind mentally to not interrupt him this time.
"I could just say this when you are sleeping." She chuckled. "Because I don't have the guts to face you now after what happened. I was so shocked when you took the bullet for me. How could you do that? You risked your life for me!" She paused for a breath.
"Actually I have been into this. I mean this feels so foreign, the care, these feeling and everything. I have never been through this. Back at home, my family, or the ones who sold me to my husband, never took a look at me. They kept me as their maid. Never bothered to check on me. Never cared to help me in time of needs. My biological parents left me forever to them and went to God. That's why I was in the dire need to get a job so I could meet up with my own expenses and pay my rent to them as well."
"But one day I get to know that they fixed my alliance somewhere, actually sold me somewhere. I was so broken and wanted to run but was helpless. I was a coward. And then you came and saved me just like a hero. I will be so greatfull to you for this my entire life." She said and squeezed his hand gently.
Looking at him for more minutes she finally decided to leave. Wiping her tears, she looked at his face and pushed back his hair from forehead. Smiling at him, she got up and turned to leave.
Arnav knew that she was leaving. It was now ot never. So as soon as she left his hand, he immediately held it back making her stiff.
"Khushi." He called, his voice completely husky.
A chill ran down her spine.
Was he awake all this while. Or did he just wake up? Oh God!! Please, he shouldn't have heard anything. Not even word, please!!!
Wiping her face, she turned around with a smile.
"I am sorry, I-I disturbed you. I was just leaving. You take rest." He spoke hastily.
"Sit." He said.
"No. I will just leave." She said trying to get her hand out of his hold.
"Khushi. Sit." There was a little order in it, which made her sit immediately.
"How are you?" He asked sitting up.
"Its you who took the bullet. I should be asking you this!" She said playing with her fingers.
"Hmm. So?"
She smiled. "Nothing."
"What were you saying when I was sleeping?" He asked after a pause reading her face.
"No. Nothing. I was just seeing you sleeping."
"Oh, I look that handsome while sleeping." He winked. She blushed.
"Kahi soye hue aadmi ka fayeda toh nhi lene aayi thi?" He aksed knoting his eyebrows. (Did you come here to take advantage of a sleeping man?)
"What!! No, no, no." She spoke out utterly shocked.
"Haha. I was just kidding." He laughed out
After another round of silence, she shuffled in her seat avoiding his sharp gaze.
"I should leave." She stood again and he breathed air sharply.
"I love you." He finally confessed.
