"Why don't I have anything good to wear?" Ranbir shouted in frustration while throwing his shirts out of the closet one after another.

"What happened bro? Why are you so angry?" Aryan said while dodging a flying jeans.

"I don't have a single thing to wear." he replied with a cry baby face.

"I don't think so....." Aryan said eyeing the heap of clothes lying on the bed. "And... why on the earth are you getting ready now."

"If I say, you won't believe it......."

"What is it? Tell me, I'm excited."

"So, you want to know what it is?"

"Yes...."

"Okay, so listen carefully....."

"Go on...."

"The thing is that......."

"Cut the crap and say it!"

"It is that......"

"Will you tell or I'll leave?"

"It is actually.......NOTHING!" Ranbir said bursting into laughter.

"RANBIR!!" Aryan shouted glaring at him.

"Okay, ok, jokes apart. Prachi has invited me to the park. She has asked me to go out with her for the first time!" Ranbir was ecstatic.

"Really?" Aryan was as excited as his friend.

"Yes! I couldn't believe it myself. I have decided that I will propose her today and gift the crystal ball I had bought for her. This will be one of the best and memorable day in our lives." Ranbir said lost in his dreams.

It was a dull and windy evening. The sky hung low, but the happiness radiating from a person seemed to perforate it.

Ranbir was waiting for Prachi and humming a tune to himself.

When Prachi arrived, she seemed jovial too. There was a wide smile on her face.

"Hi Prachi, I want to say something......" Ranbir began.

"Wait, I'll speak today. It is something important. I have been wanting to say it for a while now." Prachi cut him in between. "It's about my love......" she continued with a blush.

These mere words increased the level of Ranbir's happiness by hundred times. He thought that Prachi held the same feelings for him.

"Go on, don't be shy." he prompted her.

"I want to confess that I think I'm in love.......with Aarav." Prachi declared.

Within a fraction of seconds, the whole world of Ranbir broke down into pieces. The dreams which he had carefully cherished for so many days were dashed into the dirt. His existence seemed baseless to him. 

Prachi loved Aarav! How could she?

His eyes swelled up with tears. It took a lot of effort from him to keep standing even.

"Where are you lost? Are you even listening?" Prachi asked oblivious to the storm raging inside him.

"Ye....Yes. I'm fine." he said more to himself than to her.

"So, as I was saying, I love Aarav and I think it is time to confess my feelings for him. But, I don't know about boys' liking much, so I thought you might be able to help me. I usually discuss these things only with Shahana but due to some unknown reasons she dislikes Aarav. Then, I thought about you. You are my best friend too. You will help me, won't you?" she looked at him for hopeful eyes.

Ranbir was in a mental trauma. On one side was his feelings and on the other his love for Prachi.

"You must stop her and tell her about the true colors of Aarav." one side of his mind spoke.

"Don't be selfish Ranbir, if she is happy with Aarav, let her go." the other side contradicted.

"Aarav it a bad guy!"

"You are being biased. There is enemity between you both, so you feel him to be bad. He might even think the same about you but that doesn't mean you are bad ."

"Don't let her go Ranbir!"

"If you truly love her, you should be happy in her happiness."

"I will help you." Ranbir said with a fake smile donning his lips.

True to his words, Ranbir helped Prachi a lot and when the time of departure came, she left him with a 'Thank You'.

Shahana was wondering where Prachi might have gone when Aryan called her.

"Hey! Do you know what's going to happen today?" Aryan said in excitement.

"What?" 

"Ranbir will propose Prachi!"

"Really?" she was equally excited by the news.

"Yeah! Prachi has called Ranbir to the park and he has made up his mind to propose her.

"I'm soooooo happy! Thank God! Now that Ranbir and Prachi will become a couple, she will stay away from Aarav."

Aarav's name reminded Aryan of Vicky. "You don't like him? I thought you liked Vicky and him....."

"Has a mad dog bitten me or what? How did you even think that I can like that cockroach and alien? Had it not been for Prachi, I would have not seen their faces even."

A wave of peace passed over Aryan. "Oh! I saw you that day holding hands......."

"That was not like that. He was irritating me." she clarified. "Wait a minute, where were you then? Were you spying on me?" she asked suspiciously.

"Umm...... I......." 

Aryan was saved by Prachi's arrival.

"Prachi has arrived and she looks happy. I think everything went well. I want to know the details. I'll call you later." 

 Shahana went and stood close to Prachi where she was humming to herself.

"Someone looks extremely happy today. Anything happened?" Shahana asked in a teasing tone.

"It did! You won't believe it! I love Aarav and I will propose him tomorrow!"

"WHAT!" Shahana said in disbelief. "Didn't you go to meet Ranbir?"

"Yes. I narrated everything to him and he is such a nice person that he helped me a lot." she said casually.

"You did this? He didn't say anything?"

"No. Why are you reacting as such as if I have committed a grave mistake?"

"Now how can I say that what you have done! Poor Ranbir, he must be completely broken by now. He needs someone at his side now." she thought to herself. "I need to make an urgent call." she said to Prachi and left.

 Shahana called Aryan and narrated everything to him.

"What ever happened isn't good. Ranbir hasn't still reached home. I'll go and find him out."

"Take care of him."

When Ranbir was sure that  Prachi was gone, he could not hold it any longer and broke down into tears.

He began walking lifelessly. Everything was useless to him now.

The only question that ran through his mind was Why Prachi? Why?

When Aryan found him, Ranbir was talking to himself.

"It's not your mistake Prachi.....All the fault is mine.....It's because of my ill fate." he said sadly. "Don't think that I will forget you. May be I have left you for this birth, but in my next birth, you will be mine."

Aryan couldn't see his best friend in that condition, so went and hugged him.

"Everything will be fine bro. You can talk with her and make her understand." Aryan consoled him.

"No! I won't do that. It's her first love and I shouldn't be the barrier in it." Ranbir said determinedly.

"What about you then?"

"My happiness lies in Prachi. If she will be happy, I'll also be happy. Her laughter will be the reason of my smile. Even though the love in her eyes will be for someone else, my love for her will be enough to compensate for hers."

"I understood what is true love from you today. I salute you and your love." Aryan was impressed by Ranbir and his determination.
