The events of 1985 changed Mavis. Not only for the worse, but also for the better. She realized that she had a place in this world, and more importantly, that life moved pretty fast; that if you didn't stop and looked around once in a while, you could miss it.

That's why she hoped things would go back to normal after the Starcourt fire. She hoped that her senior year wouldn't be haunted by any more monsters, that her father would finally accept the help he needed, that she could finally gather the courage to tell Steve that she wouldn't want to kill her time with anybody else.

However, the months leading to Spring Break were filled with bad omens, and Mavis couldn't help but feel like things weren't going to be normal ever again. That things would only going to get worse.
