𖢻 Chapter Twenty-Two: No Man Is An Island

Jisung was the first one to finish eating, about to slide off his chair but was stopped by Jaemin's warning voice. "Jisung..." He drawls his name in a low tone.

Jisung turns to him with a pout jutted out, "yes, Mister Blue?"

He's clearly clueless on his actions, so Jaemin lets it pass this time. "You're forgetting something."

"Huh?"

"Sit back down for a minute, honey." Jeno chimes with a kind smile dancing on his lips.

Jisung tilts his head but does as told, Chenle beside him was about to slip away too but groans quietly when Jeno tuts, "you too, Lele."

"Now, kids, when you're done eating, you don't leave the table right away." Jaemin says carefully, observing both of Jeno's sons.

Jisung raises a brow, curious as always. "We don't?" Jaemin shakes his head in response, "then what do we do?"

"Well that's kind of a long list, but I'm hoping you two can follow it. Which I'm sure you can," Jaemin winks as Jisung leans forward.

"What's the prize?" Jeno was about to say something, but based on his frown, Jaemin knows he's changing his mind.

So he beats him to it, "you can make your Papa happy, don't you want that?" Jisung smiles and nods off in agreement.

"Great, so are you two up for it?"

"No." Chenle mutters under his breath.

Jisung on the other hand, nods frantically, "yes!" Without hesitation.

"First, I need you two to listen carefully and take notes on what I say, okay?" Humming attentively, Jaemin chuckles at the youngest son.

"Okay, step one, you position your spoon and fork like this..." Jaemin shows them slowly yet neatly, Jisung watched with wide eyes while Chenle huffs quietly.

"What does it mean if you do that, Mister Blue?" Jeno giggles wholeheartedly at Jisung's question.

Jaemin smiles and gestures to his plate where his spoon and fork are paralleled to the side while his tiny leftovers are on the opposite."It means you've finished eating, Jisungie."

"Why do we have to do that, Mister Blue?"

"It's part of the table manners, which is what I'm teaching you tonight." Jaemin answers and then gesturing to Jisung's own plate.

"Do you want to give it a try?" Jisung glances at Jeno who nods in a supporting manner at him in response.

"You and Lele hyung should try it," Jeno gives Chenle a look when his eldest son clicks his tongue.

Biting his inner cheek, he gets it done easily– because it is. Jisung follows suit a second later, smiling to himself when Jeno praises them both.

"Good job, boys!" Jaemin exclaims and gives them a thumbs up. "But it's not over yet, there's two more things you need to do."

Jisung blinks at him, and Jaemin takes it as his cue to continue. "Chenle, can you guess the next step to do after eating?"

"No." Chenle answers instantly, eyebrows furrowed as Jeno sighs quietly.

"Lele..."

He clenches his fist under the table for a second before exhaling. "Fine," turning to Jisung, he nudges his little brother who makes a noise in return.

"Thank, Papa."

"Ha?"

Chenle doesn't answer after that, so Jaemin had to step in again. "You should always thank the person who prepared and served the food, Jisungie."

Jisung tilts his head to the side, "why?"

It hurts Jeno in the inside, that his kids are being like this: one is genuinely clueless while the other is not cooperating at all.

But he smiles it off, feeling bad for leaving it all up to Jaemin who answers Jisung's question. "Because without them, we wouldn't be able to eat anything at all." Frowning at the end.

Immediately turning to look at Jeno, the little boy almost bounces off his seat. "Thank you for the food, Papa!"

Jeno waits for Chenle's words, the eldest son swallows for a second before grumbling. "Thanks, Pa."

"You're welcome, everyone." Flashing them his sweet eyesmile, couldn't stop the giddy feeling bubbling up in him when he hears them thanking him.

This is new. But Jeno sometimes likes new things.

"What's the next step, Mister Blue?" Jisung ushers for Jaemin to say it, excited to know what else they can and should do tonight if it makes his Papa happy.

Jaemin hums attentively, "the last step is one of the harder ones" he warns as if it was such a big deal, it has Jeno snickering beside him. "But I'm sure you two can do it."

"What is it?"

"You have to help us clean up... It's more like helping each other, though." Jaemin says with a small smile on his handsome face.

The little boy frowns for a moment, "that's no fun..."

"It isn't." His elder brother comments beside him, rolling his eyes.

"Why do we have to clean up? Papa usually does that..."

Jaemin copies Jisung's frown, genuine as his. "Papa is tired from work, Sungie... And it would be much easier and better if we all helped each other."

"Daddy said one person is assigned to do something, and Papa is assigned to clean up..." Jisung suddenly blurts out due to being so confused.

It's not that Jisung is stupid, he's clearly being brainwashed by his Dad and twisting a lot of facts for him to be against Jeno, whether he realizes or not.

Jeno's breath hitched, not only because he didn't expect for Jisung to do that, but for just hearing about this too.

Although, he shouldn't be too surprised– he still can't help it.

Chenle nudges the leg of Jisung's chair as Jaemin replies, "but that isn't right, is it?" Jisung could only stare at him.

"Have you ever heard of the saying No Man Is An Island?"

Jisung gasps in excitement, "yeah! I think our teacher said something about it before!"

"What about you, Chenle?" The said boy grunts in response.

As much as Jaemin wants him to cooperate, he thinks there's no rush for Chenle to warm up to this... Or him.

So he lets him be. Thanking for the fact that Chenle is at least responding to him in some ways– although not so nicely.

"So you know what it means, right?" The two boys nod in response. "That's wonderful then." Jaemin's smile is genuine, wide and proud.

"That refers to every single one of us, and right now, your Papa is in need of help on doing the dishes and cleaning up." He clasps his hands together.

Jeno nods and speaks up more clearly now, gaining some confidence to join in when he sees the process. "Jisungie, would you like to help me?"

"Yeah!" Jisung nods happily, "what can I do, Pang?" Looking around the table for a second, he tries to guess what task Jeno's going to assign him on.

"You can help me clean the dirty dishes, baby." Jeno says and turns to a frowning Chenle. "Lele, sweetheart, please help Mister Jaemin clean the table. Listen to him, okay?"

Jaemin flashes Chenle his well-known charming smile, but the teenager just doesn't budge that frown away.

"Let's get started, the sooner the better, everyone!"
