Chapter Twenty Two - "You Watched As She Bled To Death."

Avery's P.O.V

Sunday was a complete blast. Well, with Aunty Heather, it's always a blast but yesterday was absolutely amazing. When my mom and dad decided to go out for dinner, Aunty Heather was in control.

Even though it was five in the afternoon, Aunty Heather took us to the nearest bowling alley and we played two games which I both won. After that, we decided to go shopping for some snacks and some movies since my parents weren't going to be home till late.

When we got home, it was nine o'clock and we watched two movies, one of them being Mean Girls and the other one being Freaky Friday or something like that. We stayed up till two in the morning but that was until Aunty Heather had too much wine and fell asleep on the couch which was our cue that we had to go to bed too... well, not without drawing a few things on Aunty Heather's face.

I drew a mono brow, Jade drew a skull on her cheek and of course, Joshua wrote the word 'penis' on her head and even decided to draw one on her other cheek. When Aunty Heather woke up, she didn't scream, she just laughed and threatened that she would get us all back.

"You three are lucky you didn't use permanent marker, otherwise I would be walking around with a penis, a skull and a mono brow on my face." Aunty Heather laughs and I shake my head at her, chuckling.

"That would be hilarious." I comment and Aunty Heather nods.

"Yeah... to the rest of the world." Aunty Heather says and I nod, walking down the stairs with my bag hanging on my shoulder and my earphone in my left ear.

"Okay, I'm heading off to school." I say to my parents who are on the couch, watching the encore of Home and Away.

Yuck.

"Okay, have fun." My mom says and I nod, walking out the door. Straight away, I notice a purple Ferrari in front of my house and I gasp, walking closer towards the paper that is stuck on the window.

Just a little present since I haven't seen you in ages xx - Aunty Heather

"Holy shit." I say, walking around the car. Ferrari's are cool as fuck and I have dreamed about getting one ever since I turned ten. I notice Aunty Heather standing at the door and I run towards her, giving her a hug.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I say, smiling at my Aunty.

"Your welcome but just one thing. You do have your license, right?" Aunty Heather asks and I nod. Aunty Heather nods then kisses me on the cheek.

"Well, go on. I don't want to keep you waiting." Aunty Heather smirks and I nod, running towards the car.

My car.

I throw my bag in the front seat and hop in the driver's seat, looking around. I start the engine and listen to the loud roar it makes.

"Oh my god." I say and I rev the engine again, smiling at the noise. I look at Aunty Heather and give her a wave before driving off to school.

"Holy shit, your car is fucking hot." Claire says, walking towards me while checking out my car. I nod in amusement, looking at Claire with a smile.

"I know, hey." I say and Claire gives me a short hug before walking into the building. I sigh when I see a girl with short blonde hair and glasses at my locker. I walk towards Katie and open my locker, ignoring her eyes which were burning into the side of my head.

"So, the rumors I've heard are true, yes?" I hear Katie ask and I ignore her, grabbing my books out of my locker and shoving them in my bag. Claire gives me a short look and I just give her a smile.

As soon as I close my locker, Katie immediately pushes me against it, my back hitting the lockers with a hard smash. I look at Katie with a glare. Since Katie is a little taller than me - only because of her heels - she thinks she has power over me because of that smirk on her face. I sigh and look at Katie with a frown.

"What do you want now?" I ask, not really bothered to argue with Katie at this moment. I had too many things to worry about.

"You and Logan are together now?" Katie asks, her eyebrow raising up slightly. I furrow my eyebrows and shake my head.

"No but why do you care anyway?" I ask, pushing Katie off me. Katie brushes the blonde hair out of her face and shrugs.

"I'm only being curious. But just to let you know, he would never go for a girl like you since you've slept with the whole school. I wouldn't be suprised if you are just hanging out with the bad boy to get into his pants." Katie grins and I roll my eyes.

"Talk about yourself." I mutter. Katie glares at me and crosses her arms over her chest.

"I cant believe Logan hasn't seen the side that everyone else has seen of you yet. I wonder if he knows about you letting your precious friend Penny die? I mean, I would never just let someone shoot my best friend..." Katie says and I grit my teeth together.

"You better shut up." I say, my fists clenching by my side. Katie smirks and keeps going.

"Oh, I know why you let her die! You never liked her! You never even cares about her so you just left her for dead. You watched as she bled to death. You just watched her, Avery. How could you do that?" Katie shakes her head in disappointment and before I could punch her, Claire does.

"You fucking bitch, Katie!" Claire screams, tears rushing out of her eyes as she continues to punch her. I bite my lip, listening to the words that Katie had said.

"You never liked her! You never even cares about her so you just left her for dead. You watched as she bled to death. You just watched her, Avery."

"Get off each other right now!" I hear teacher yell but they don't get off each other, instead the continue to punch each other, Claire obviously winning. A few people grab Claire and drag her away towards the nurses office and a teacher grabs Katie and starts talking to her.

When the crowd disappears, I slid my body down the lockers and sit on the floor, tears rushing out of my eyes.

"You never liked her! You never even cares about her so you just left her for dead. You watched as she bled to death. You just watched her, Avery."

"She's right." I mumble, wiping my tears away from my eyes but that doesn't stop the new set of tears that run down my cheeks. The memory of that day floods in my head and I close my eyes tight, trying to ignore the screams coming from Penny.

"Jared, put the gun down!" I shout as I rush into the warehouse. I notice Penny in the chair, tears rushing down her face as she looks at the gun that is pointing at her head.

"I cant do that and you know I can't. She broke the rule even though she knows what happens when you break a rule." Jared says and I bite my lip.

"Jared... you don't have to do this." I try to calm Jared down but they way his hand is shaking told me that he is anything but calm.

"S-She broke a rule, Avery." Jared says and I step forward, shaking my head slightly.

"Who gives a shit if she broke a rule? It was an accident, Jared. You know that. Everyone makes mistakes." I say and Jared licks his dry lips.

"But she knew not to go near him but she did it anyway. You know how much I hate him but of course, no one cares about me and what I say to try and keep them out of trouble. No one listens to me." Jared says and I hold my breath when Jared pulls the trigger but only a scream comes out of Penny's mouth.

There wasn't any bullets in that gun.

"I love you, Jared. I would never do anything to hurt you." Penny speaks up, looking at Jared through her tears. I let out a sigh when Jared drops the gun. I pick up the gun and hide it behind my back. Jared hugs his sister and Penny smiles, hugging her brother tight.

Suddenly, a face I know too well runs into the warehouse, catching everyone's attention and Penny gasps when she sees her boyfriend, Mark Harrison, run in. Mark glares at Jared and Jared does the same.

"I told you to stay away from my sister, dude." Jared says, pushing Penny behind him. Mark smirks and shakes his head.

"I cant do that. She's my girlfriend." Mark says and immediately snatches the gun off me. I gasp and look at him when he points the gun at Jared.

"Don't you dare." I say, standing in front of Mark. Mark shakes his head and taps my shoulder with the gun, making me move in fright.

"I won't hurt you... badly." With this said, Mark pulls the trigger but nothing comes out. Mark groans and throws the gun away but pulls a pistol out of his pocket, the smirk returning to his lips.

"Lucky I came prepared, aye?" Mark says, a chuckle escaping his lips. As I am about to stop him, he pulls the trigger and the loud gun shot, makes Penny and I scream. As I watch the bullet go towards Jared, Penny immediately steps in front and takes the bullet for him and Penny hits the floor.

"Holy shit." Jared says, kneeling down beside his sister.

"What the fuck?" Mark curses, throwing the gun away immediately.

"Penny!" I scream, tears rushing down my eyes.

She's right. I just watched as Mark and Jared tried to help Penny. I didn't even call the ambulance. I didn't even call the police. I just stood there, watching as Penny groans and cries in pain.

"Are you okay?" I look up to see Jade kneeling in front of me, her eyes watching me curiously as I remove my hands from my face.

"Holy shit, what the hell happened to you?" Jade asks and I shake my head, wiping away my tears.

"Its... nothing." I say, shaking my head again. Jade holds my face and looks me in the eyes, her face showing nothing but curiosity and concern.

"Tell me who made you upset. I can help." Jade smiles and I immediately think back to the newspaper.

"No!" I scream, pushing Jade away from me. Jade stands up and frowns slightly.

"I was only just trying to help-"

"I don't need you to fucking help me, okay? Just go away and don't come near me!" I scream again, the tears rushing down my cheeks again. Jade sighs and nods, walking down the hallway with a small frown on her face.

"Well aren't you in a fantastic mood." I hear a voice say and I look to see Logan walking towards me, a smile on his face. As much as I want to run up and hug him, I glare at him instead.

"Just because I pushed Jade away, it doesn't mean I made a spot available for you." I say, holding back my tears. Logan frowns.

"Well, I'll just go then." Logan says and starts to walk down the hall. I watch as he looks back at me, seeing if I'll change my mind but I just stare at him. Logan groans and comes back.

"I cant leave you here all upset." Logan says and offers me a hand. I look at it for a few seconds before taking it. Logan smiles and wraps an arm around my shoulder as we walk out of the school building.

"I want to take you somewhere. Don't panic though, it's a place everyone enjoys." By the smile on Logan's face, I believe him and let him walk me to his motorcycle but suddenly he stops walking and looks at my Ferrari.

"Do you mind if I drive your car?" Logan asks and I shrug, not really minding.

"Sweet." Logan says before walking towards my car. I can't help but smile when I see the delighted grin on his face.

I wonder where he is taking me...

Is this my forth update? Oh my gosh, I'm totally kicking it, aren't I? Thanks to all of you who inspire me to write more! I love you all.

What do you think of this chapter? Is it good? Now you know the story behind the whole Penny thing. By the way, Penny has two brothers, William and Jared so if you think I just decided to change the name of Claire's ex (William), well your wrong.
