Chapter Twenty Four - "I Thought We Dropped This."

Avery's P.O.V

"So where is the birthday boy?" I ask Claire as we walk into her house. Claire shrugs and waves to a few people who are sitting on the couch. I don't recognise them so I just guess that they are Henry's friends.

"Apparently he is at work but since he finished an hour ago, I'm getting his brother to stall him while I fix this place up. Go have a drink or something, I'll be down in a few." Claire says and I nod. Ryan follows behind me as I make my way to the kitchen and grab a can of coke. Ryan does the same and leans against the counter, copying me.

"What are you doing?" I ask, looking at Ryan and he shrugs, taking a sip of his coke.

"Enjoying the party." Ryan says and I roll my eyes. I hear my phone beep and I grab my phone out of my pocket and look at the message.

Logan: What are you doing?

Me: You should be looking after River, you moron. How is she anyway?

Logan: I know but I wanted to check on you too. River is good. She is playing with a few people in the pool.

Me: The pool? Where are you?

Logan: At the pools, duh. I never knew River could swim.

Me: My mom has been teaching her. She is pretty smart for a three year old, don't you think?

Logan: Yeah she gets it from me.

Me: Dream on.

I place my phone back in my pocket and look at Ryan who is looking through the fridge. I roll my eyes and grab the back of Ryan's shirt, pulling him out of the fridge.

"If you want food, go and have some chips that are on the counter." I say and Ryan shakes his head.

"Like I said before, I have to be in the mood for something." Ryan says and I smack him on the head as he opens the fridge again. I close the fridge and push Ryan away from it.

"I am honestly getting so annoyed with you and your food problems." I say and Ryan shakes his head.

"I have no problem when it comes to food, Avery." Ryan points out and I roll my eyes again for the hundredth time today.

"Whatever, Ryan." I say, pulling out my phone.

I have three messages and let me just say, they aren't from Logan. Well, two of them are but one is from am unknown number. I ignore Logan's messages and look at the new one.

Unknown Number: Hello Avery, you probably won't guess who this is but let me just tell you something. I will see you very soon since you seem to be falling for the trap. Make sure you keep a sharp eye on River, Avery.

I feel a shiver go down my spine as I read it again. "R-Ryan..." I ask, looking up at him. He notices that my fear and walks over, looking at my phone.

"Its probably someone messing with you. Don't worry about it too much." Ryan says and I nod slowly before exiting the message. I click on Logan's messages and read them with shaky hands.

Logan: I will, sunshine.

Logan: Uh, did you just get a weird message just now?

Wait, he got it too?

Me: Yes and whoever it is, they know River.

Logan: Why did yours say?

Me: 'Hello Avery, you probably won't guess who this is but let me just tell you something. I will see you very soon since you seem to be falling for the trap. Make sure you keep a sharp eye on River, Avery.'

Logan: Wow, and I though mine was scary.

Me: What does your one say?

Logan: 'Hello Logan, it's been a while since we last talked. I hope your doing fine with your children. Let me just say, River looks beautiful ;)'

Me: They want River.

Logan: They won't get her, I promise. Are you home?

Me: No, I'm at Claire's.

Logan: I'm coming and yes, I know Claire is going to start on me but I'll explain everything to her. See you soon.

Me: Okay.

I put my phone back in my pocket and run a hand through my hair, letting out a sigh.

Don't break your promise, Logan.

After singing happy birthday, eating the delicious chocolate cake that Claire had made and playing a few games, the bell finally rings and I let out a sigh. Claire sends me a short glare before standing up and walking to the door.

Okay, so telling Claire that Logan will be coming over didn't go so well. There might of been at vase smashed and a hole in the wall but after convincing Claire that something is going down, she finally calmed down but she still didn't hide the fact that she was slightly still pissed which explains her glare just now.

"Oh look who it is!" Claire says, sarcasm dripping from her tone and I watch as Logan smiles at Claire, a sleeping River in his arms. When Claire looks down at River, she takes her from him and as she turns around, I can't help but notice the smile on her face as she looks down at River. I excuse myself from the game and stand up, walking towards Logan and out the door, shutting the door behind me so we could have some privacy.

"First off, thank you for letting me take River out. She had a pretty good day today." Logan says and I nod, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Since she is asleep, I'm sure she did. Moving on though, what the hell are we going to do about this creepy dude?" I ask and Logan looks up in the sky in thought.

"I have no idea."

"Your kidding." I say, smacking my forehead and Logan looks down at me with a slight frown.

"Patrick." He says and I frown at him in confusion.

"What about him?" I ask and Logan runs a hand through his hair, closing his eyes.

"Remember when I found you and Patrick in Elena's room at her birthday party? Well, a few hours later, he messaged me saying that if you ever did have a kid, I should watch out." Logan says and my eyes widen.

"H-He is the one messaging me?" I ask and Logan shakes his head.

"No way, he would never do that. But, we need to see him if we want to find out who is trying to scare us." Logan says and I bite my lip.

"I don't want to lose River, I just can't lose her. She is my world and if anyone even thinks of taking her from me, I don't know what I will do. I might as well just-"

"Avery, don't you dare finish that. Look, I've known you long enough to know that you will never give up without a fight so stick to that and stay strong. We will find out who the person is, okay?" Logan says and I close my eyes, taking in a deep breath.

"Okay." I breathe out, opening my eyes again and Logan smiles at me.

"Good girl. Now, I also need to ask you something." Logan says and I nod slowly.

"Go ahead."

"Are you aware of Ryan?" Logan asks and I frown in confusion.

"What do you mean?" I ask and Logan sighs.

"He used to be one of Patrick's guys." Logan explains and my eyes widen.

"What-"

"I know, I did some research on the guy and that is what I found. I just want to make sure he hasn't touched you or anything. Don't listen to him or trust him." Logan says and I shake my head.

"He hasn't touched me." I say and Logan nods.

"Good because I won't hesitate to kill that guy."

"I know. Anyway, are you staying or-"

"Trying to push me away?" Logan asks and I shake my head, chuckling.

"No, I'm only asking." I say and Logan nods.

"Well in that case, I might as well stay."

"Thats if Claire is okay with it." I point out and Logan rolls his eyes.

"Your girlfriend will be, trust me." Logan grins and this time, I roll my eyes.

"I thought we dropped this." I say and Logan laughs, shaking his head.

"Nah, it's funny to see your reaction." Logan says and I raise my eyebrow at him.

"It won't be funny when I strangle you." I say and Logan chuckles.

"Shut up, you love me." Logan says and I roll my eyes.

"Dream on."

"I would rather wait, sunshine." Logan says with a wink and I ignore him and walk back into the house with Logan following behind me.

You'll be waiting a long time, I can tell you that.
