Chapter Thirty Two - "Damn, I Died!"

Avery's P.O.V

"Here," I say to my father who is sitting at the table with a new paper in front of him. He looks up at me then down at the paper. "Make the call." I say and my father picks up the paper and reads it, his eyes widening.

"Where did you find this?" My father asks and I shrug.

"A friend found out for me." I say and my father stands up and walks over to the phone, picking it up and dialing the number on the paper. I notice my mom walk into the kitchen with River on her hip.

"Whats going on?"

"Mommy!" River screams and I smile, taking her from my mom. I give her an hug and kiss her forehead.

"Dad is calling Jade's officer." I say, trying to dodge River's kisses that she is planted on my entire face. I can't help but laugh when River grabs my cheeks and stops me from moving, placing a kiss directly on my nose.

"Okay, I missed you too, baby." I say with a smile and River grins.

"Dolls?" River asks and I let out another laugh.

"Go and set it up. I'll be up in a second." I say, placing River down on the ground. I watch as River runs out of the kitchen, a wide smile on her face. I smile, shaking my head.

How is she so cute?

I look over at my father who is leaning against the wall, obviously waiting for the person to pick up. My mom crosses her arms over her chest and watches my father patiently.

"Hello?" My father asks and after a few seconds, he nods.

"Yeah, that's fine. Uh, am I speaking to Helena?" My father asks. "I am the father of Jade Leighton. I believe you are her parole officer, yes?" My father asks and I notice how his face scrunched up in disgust when he said that he was the father of Jade.

Wow, he really must hate Jade. Well, everyone does but... wow.

"I need to have a word with you about some things that we have been receiving from her... yeah, that's fine." My father rolls his eyes and I can't help but chuckle. "Tomorrow? Yep. Okay, thank you." My father ends the call and places the phone back in its place.

"So?" My mom asks, her eyes wide.

"We can see Helena tomorrow at nine o'clock in the morning but I have a feeling that Helena saw this coming..." My father says and I cross my arms over my chest.

"What is that suppose to mean?" I ask and my father runs a hand through his hair.

"I have worked with dodgy people my whole life and something tells me that Helena was expected us to call about Jade. I don't know how but I just have a feeling she knew." My father says and I raise my eyebrow.

"Are you saying someone told her?" I ask and my father shakes her head.

"No, I have a feeling that she is doing the dirty work for Jade."

Claire-Bear: Come on! We haven't seen each other in ages! Just come party with me tonight, please!

Me: I can't, Claire. I am looking after River because my parents went to the store to get River some custard.

Claire-Bear: Where is Heather? Ask her to look after River.

Me: She is with some old friends. Maybe, if you love me so much, you can come and stay over.

Claire-Bear: Really? Oh yes, I'm coming now.

I shut my phone off and look at River who is laying on her stomach, flipping pages in a book that she is 'reading'.

"What are you doing?" I ask, taking the book away from her. River jumps up and pouts at me.

"Hey, I was reading that!" River says and I chuckle.

"Okay then," I say, opening the book and pointing at a word. "What does that word say?" I ask with a grin and River looks at the book for a few seconds.

"Uh... custard?" River guesses and I shake my head, chuckling.

"You and your custard, girl." I mutter, placing the book on her desk where she spends half the day drawing. I crouch down at the edge of the bed and smile at my daughter.

"Aunty Claire is coming tonight." I say and River jumps up, clapping her hands together.

"Yay! I missed her!" River says and she jumps off the bed and runs out of the room and down the hallway. I follow her and watch as she runs to Joshua's room. I open the door for her since she can't reach and lean against the frame of the door, watching as she runs to Joshua who is playing some murder game.

Just as River is about to say that Claire is coming, she turns over at the television and screams. "Scary!" She screams, running towards me and hugging my legs. I pick River up with a laugh and walk into the room.

"You really need to get out of this room, Josh." I say and Joshua furiously throws the controller onto the ground.

"Damn, I died!" Joshua groans and he looks over at me. "What do you want?" Joshua asks and I raise my eyebrow at him.

"You didn't hear me?" I ask and Joshua raises his own eyebrow at me.

"Was I suppose to?" Joshua retorts and I roll my eyes.

"Claire is coming over to stay the night." I say, leaving the room and as I walk back into River's room, I hear Joshua's voice.

"You're twenty and your having sleepovers? Grow up!" Joshua shouts and I place River down on the bed.

"Wait there." I say and when I walk down the hallway and into Joshua's room, I walk over to him and slap him upside the head, hearing Joshua groan.

Short chapter but that's only because the next chapter is going to have all of the trouble and such... I hope you still enjoyed this chapter even though it was pretty boring.
