Chapter Thirty Seven

Chapter Thirty Seven - "I Was Jumped, That's All."
___

Avery's P.O.V

"Avery, I'm going to - oh..." I hear my mother trail off after entering my room. I blink a few times, letting out a yawn. When I notice that Logan and mine's hands are still holding each other's, I can't help but smile. I close my eyes again, not bothering to say good morning to my mom as I am way too tired to.

"Avery, I suggest you get your - what the-" My father cuts himself off, obviously looking at the scene in front of him. This time, I feel Logan shift and I let out a sigh, knowing that my father has woken up Logan.

I open my eyes and slowly sit up, letting go of Logan's hand. I look at my parents, sending them a small smile. "Morning." I say and my father narrows his eyes at the both of us. He has no reason to get angry. I mean, he did say he will put his trust into Logan, right?

Right.

Logan sighs in pain and I remember the bruises and cuts on his face. When he opens his eyes to see my parents in front of us, he jumps and falls out of the bed. "Shit," Logan mutters and I slap a hand to my forehead.

My mother walks over to the side of the bed and smiles at Logan. "Are you okay?" She asks and Logan groans, getting up. When she sees the bruises, her smile falls and a flash of concern runs across her face.

"What happened to you?" My mom asks as Logan sits back on the bed.

"I'm fine, Mrs Leighton." Logan says, coughing a little.

"Danielle, can you check on River and Drew?" My father asks and she nods, walking out of the room. I watch as my father walks over to my bed, sitting at the end of it. He studies Logan's face while Logan looks at my father, confusion clear in his eyes.

On yeah, I didn't tell him about last night, I think to mzyef as I watch Logan's eyebrows furrow in confusion.

"Logan," My father starts. "What happened to your face?"

This makes Logan's eyebrows furrow more. "Huh?"

"Your face," My father repeats. "What happened?" My father asks and Logan looks over at me. I wave him off and watch as he looks back at my father.

"Okay, am I missing something? The last time I saw you, you were at my doorstep threatening to kill me." Logan says and I remember the time when Logan appeared at my window asking why my father was at his house.

My father waves him off. "I have spoken to my daughter and promised to give you another chance. Fuck it up and I will do more than threaten to kill you." My father says and Logan nods slowly. "Now, who happened to your face?"

"I... I - nothing happened." Logan says, waving my father off.

"By the looks of that-" My father points at the bruise around his eye. "-that sure as hell isn't nothing. I suggest you tell me what happened."

"I was jumped, that's all." Logan says, earning a concerning look from my father.

"By who?"

"No idea." Logan says, running a hand through his hair. "Uh, if you will excuse me, I would like to go have a shower at my hou-"

"Don't be stupid," My mother says, walking back into the room. Eavesdropper like always, I think to myself as my mother waves Logan off. "You can shower here."

Logan looks over at me, a surprised but confused look still playing on his face. Without saying a word to me, I wave him off once more.

"Just do it."

"Hey, Logan?" I ask, walking up to him when he has finished putting Drew in his car. Logan looks over at me, a small smile playing at his lips.

"Yes, sunshine?"

"Uh... I've been meaning to ask you something for a while now." I say and Logan nods.

"And?"

"Um, are you together or..." I trail off, a frown spreading across my face. Logan chuckles but winces when his jaw begins to hurt. He grabs my hands and presses his lips to my forehead.

"Its all up to you. I'm not rushing you." Logan says and when he looks back at my house, he smile widens. "But to be honest, I thought we were dating this whole time." Logan says and I can't help but smile.

"Figured." I say and Logan breathes out a sigh.

"Fine, I'll calm your thoughts." Logan says and when his arms wrap around my waist pulling me closer to him, I can't help but let my smile grow. "Will you be my girlfriend... again?" Logan asks and I look into Logan's brown eyes.

"Hmm, I don't know..." Logan's face drops at my words, making me laugh. "I'm joking. I'll be your girlfriend... again." I say and Logan smiles, pressing his lips to mine but only for a short second before pulling away.

"A step closer to making you fall for me once more." Logan says and I roll my eyes.

"Okay, buddy." I say, stepping away from him. Logan chuckles and gets into the car.

"I'll text you later okay? I've got to go and sort out that custody stuff again." Logan says and I nod.

"Good luck." I say and Logan smiles.

"Thanks." Logan says and I look at the back of Logan's car and wave at Drew. He sends me a small wave and my smile widens as I look back at Logan.

"Drew's starting to like me." I say quiet enough so just Logan can hear and he nods, a smile spreading on his lips.

"He always liked you. I just told him to not show it." And with that, Logan starts the car and drives away, leaving me shocked and flushed.

Trust you to say something like that... I think to myself as I turn around and walk back towards the house. When I walk in, I look at River who is smiling brightly.

"Why are you smiling like that?" I ask, frowning a little and River's smile widens, if that is even possible.

"I saw you and Logan kiss." River says and I roll my eyes, picking River up into my arms.

"And I saw you hug Drew when he was leaving." I say, earning a gasp from River. "I think you are beginning to like your brother." I say and when the word 'brother' escapes my lips, I smack a hand to my forehead.

River furrows her eyebrows at me. "Brother?"

And that's when I knew I had to explain everything to my three year old daughter...

That's if she understands...

●●●

"I don't get it." River mumbles as she looks down at the picture I had drawn for her to make the whole explanation more understanding. When I look at her face though, I don't think it really helped.

"This is Drew," I begin to explain again, pointing at the stick figure I had drawn. What? I'm no artist. "And this is you. That is mommy and that is Logan." I say pointing to the stick figures as I look up a few times to see River's face.

She still doesn't get it...

"Mommy and-"

"What the heck is going on in here?" I hear my mom laugh as she enters River's room. I look over my shoulder, a new idea filling my mind.

"Hey mom, can you-" I whisper the rest of the words in her ear, pulling away when I'm finished to see her reaction. My mom looks at River, then at the picture before running a hand through her hair.

"Isn't she too young to understand?" My mom asks, looking down at me. I shrug.

"To be honest, I don't even know. She is smart but maybe she just isn't that smart-"

"I'm right here!" River complains, crossing her arms over her chest and I can't help but smile at her.

"I know, baby. I am just trying to figure out-"

"Logan is your dad, River."

Mom, what the fuck, I think to myself as I look up at my mom with wide eyes. She just smiles and crossing her arms over her chest.

"There, I helped you."
