Chapter Thirteen

Chapter Thirteen - "God, I Feel Like A Little Good Girl."
___

Avery's P.O.V

I grit my teeth and listen to the words that are circling in my head.

Stay calm, stay calm, stay calm, my brain says to me but the cries from River are not making me calm. The fact that Katie hurt my daughter makes me want to rip her head off her shoulders.

"Avery, calm down." Logan says as he stands in front of me. I look up at him, my eyes widening.

"Calm down? Calm down? Logan, she physically hurt my child and your telling me to calm down? She is your child too, you know!" I scream at Logan and everyone around us stops what they are doing and looks at us.

"Your sticking up for that bitch because you have a child with her too but you can't stick up for your daughter who basically got abused by that bitch!" I scream in pure anger and I push Logan out of the way and storm towards Katie, pushing her up against a wall.

I push my arm against her neck and glare at Katie. "Touch my daughter again and I won't hesitate to fucking hurt you." I spit, allowing the people behind me to drag me off Katie. I turn around and grab River out of Sarah's arms, trying to avoid touching River's wrist and I storm out of the house, walking towards my car.

When I get to my car, I open the door and put River in her seat. I wipe away her tears and kiss her on the forehead. "You okay?" I ask and River just stares at me like she is trying get to figure something out.

Suddenly, I remember the words that I said to Logan and I immediately groan in realisation.

"She is your child too, you know!"

Now everyone knows that River is Logan's daughter. Well, my life is officially going down hill, isn't it?

"Avery, wait!" I hear someone call and I grit my teeth, closing the door. I turn around to see Logan jogging towards me and I cross my arms over my chest, glaring at Logan.

"I have nothing to say to you." I say and Logan sighs.

"I know but I do. Let me fix things-"

"You've said that so many fucking times, Logan but I don't see anything changing!" I snap, gritting my teeth.

"I know Avery but you just have to trust me. I will fix this." Logan says and I roll my eyes.

"Elaborate, please?" I say and Logan sighs.

"I can't. Not now." Logan says and I nod, frowning.

"Of course you can't. Your all talk, Logan. Listen to me when I say I don't want to see you again, okay? Did you get that? Do you want me to write in on a piece of paper and stick it on your fucking forehead?" I ask, raising my eyebrow at Logan.

"You can't do that." Logan says and I laugh dryly.

"Oh yes I can, Logan. You obviously don't care about River and you never will because your too stuck into your own world with Katie and your precious son." I say and I turn around and open the car door.

"Goodbye, Logan." I say before speeding off.

I pull the blankets over River and let out a sigh when I realise that I can finally rest.

Two hours it has been ever since I left the birthday party. Logan has been trying to contact me but of course I'm ignoring them. I has a reason though; River wouldn't stop crying because Joshua being the moron he is went to go pick up River and hit her arm, making River cry. So now, I have been trying to calm her down and get her to sleep and finally, after an hour, I have succeeded.

I get up from River's bed and walk out the door, closing it behind me. I walk downstairs to see my mom, Aunty Heather, my father and Joshua sitting at the table, eating their dinner. As I make my way into the kitchen, Joshua looks up at me, a spaghetti string hanging from his mouth. I wave him off and he slurps the spaghetti string into his mouth and swallowed it.

"Is River okay?" He asks and I nod, taking a seat next to him.

"Yeah, she is asleep now." I say and Joshua sighs, continuing to eat his food.

"Hey Avery, you never told us what happened to River." Aunty Heather says and I shrug.

"She sprained her wrist. That's it." I say, trying to avoid the topic but sadly, my family didn't get the memo.

"How?" My mom asks, taking a sip of her water. I grit my teeth and look at my food.

"She just did." I say and I hear my mom sigh.

"Avery, you can tell us." My mom says and I look up at her and nod.

"I know. I just choose not to though." I say, twirling the fork into the pasta and shoving it in my mouth. I notice my father give me one of those looks that basically says 'we are talking later if you don't say it' and I let out a sigh.

"Fine." I say and I start to explain the story from how I heard River crying to the point where River pointed at Katie saying that it was her that hurt her.

"And thats when I lost it. I yelled at Logan, I attacked Katie and thats when I left." I say and everyone nods slowly, well, except for my father who is staring at me.

"What? That's the truth." I say and my father nods.

"I know, I'm just thinking though." My father says and I sigh, taking a sip of my water.

"About what?" I ask and my father rests his arms on the table.

"Logan didn't help you at all? He didn't stick up for you or anything?" My father asks and I shake my head.

"Nope." I say, popping the 'p' and my father shakes his head in disapproval. He stands up and grabs his keys.

"Where do you think your going?" My mom asks, looking up at my father and he waves us all off.

"I'm just going to pay Logan a visit. I'll be back soon." My father says like he is just going to go run down to the shop and get some milk but is not was he is planning to do. I watch as my Aunty glares at my father.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." Aunty Heather says and my father shrugs.

"I really don't care. I am sticking up for my daughter because the father of my granddaughter chooses not to." My father says and with that, he walks out the kitchen and out the door. My mom looks at me and I sigh, shrugging.

"I cant do anything." I say and stand up, grabbing my plate and taking it to the sink. My brother frowns and furrows his eyebrows.

"You haven't finished." Joshua says and I nod.

"I realise that." I say and Joshua look at my food and I wave him off.

"Go for your life." I say before walking out of the kitchen and up the stairs towards my room. I open my door and close the door behind me before falling onto my bed.

I grab my phone and realise that Logan has stopped calling but he has sent me a message. I sigh and open it.

Logan: Fine, I'm coming over.

Wait, what?

Me: No your not.

A few seconds later, I hear a tap on my window and I let out a groan. "Go away, Logan." I say loud enough for him to hear and I hear another tap on my window. I crawl over and move the curtains, allowing the light from the moon to shine into my room. I grit my teeth when I see Logan frowning at me.

"Let me in." Logan says and I shake my head and I raise my middle finger at him.

"Fuck off." I say and just as I am about to close my curtains, Logan headbutts my window, making me gasp.

"I will not hesitate to break your window, Avery." I hear Logan says and I bite my lip in anger and open the window, letting Logan climb through. I get off my bed and make sure my door is locked so no one walks in and sees Logan in my room.

God, I feel like a little good girl.

"Thank you. Now, explain why your father is at my door?" Logan asks and I shrug.

"I think you can figure that out." I reply, sitting on my bed. I cross my legs and look at Logan who is frowning at me.

"Actually, I can't. Please explain." Logan says and I groan, running my hands down my face.

"Because of how you chose to do nothing about River." I say and Logan's mouth forms into an 'o' as the realisation hits him. I roll my eyes when he nods slowly.

"Explainable." Logan mumbles to himself and I narrow my eyes at him.

"Well obviously. First of all, my father still doesn't like you and he has been looking for a reason to knock you senseless and I guess he has finally found one." I say and Logan grins.

"Well, I guess I'm not the type of boy that every father likes..." Logan trails off and I nod.

"No shit." I mutter. Suddenly, I hear a knock on my door and my eyes widen.

"Avery, open this door." I hear my brother say and I bite my lip, walking over to the door. I look back at Logan and point at the cupboard.

Okay, now I really do feel like a little good girl.

"Go." I mouth and Logan sighs but does as he is told. When Logan is in the cupboard, I open the door to see Joshua frowning. He walks in and sits on my bed after closing the door behind him. I look at my brother, confusion clear on my face.

"What do you want?" I ask and Joshua sighs, running his hands down his face.

"I don't know what to do. I mean, Emma wants to break up with me and I just... I don't want to let her go." Joshua says and I look down at him, my eyebrows furrowing.

"Emma wants to break up with you? That doesn't sound like her." I say and Joshua nods.

"I know. I have a feeling it has something to do with her douche bag brother though." Joshua says through gritted teeth and I frown at him.

"Which one?"

"Which one do you think, Avery?" Joshua snaps and I raise my hands up defensively.

"Sorry, I was just asking." I say and Joshua sighs.

"I'm sorry. Look, I just don't know what to do. I really like Emma." Joshua explains and I sigh, sitting next to my brother.

"Tell her how you feel, Joshua. Just let all your cards on the table and take a risk. I mean, what do you have to lose?" I say, smiling at Joshua and he looks up at me with a sad frown.

"Her." He mumbles and I sigh, wrapping an arm around my brother's shoulder.

"Just go see her." I say and Joshua rubs his eyes.

"I don't think she would want to see me. Last time we talked, we had an argument."

"About?"

"Logan." Joshua says and I nod.

"Thats explainable. But Joshua, you can't keep thinking like this. You have to tell her how your feeling about everything. I'm sure she will understand." I say and Joshua stands up, a small smile on his face.

"Thanks sis."

"No worries." I say to Joshua as he walks out. I stand up and find myself locking the door again. I walk over to the cupboard and pull Logan out by his shirt.

"You fucking asshole." I say, pushing him to the wall. Logan sighs and runs his hands down his face.

"Look, let me explain-"

"I don't want to even speak to you!" I shout and Logan nods.

"I know-"

"Get out." I say and point to the window. Logan doesn't move and I grit my teeth.

"Get out before I push you out." I say and Logan nods, walking towards the window. In a few seconds, I hear the window shut and I sigh, falling back on my bed.

"Your such an asshole, Logan."
