Chapter One - "No, Boys Have Cooties."

Avery's P.O.V

Sorry by Justin Bieber blasts through the speakers and move my body, feet and hips to the beat, ignoring the sweat that is dripping down the side of my face.

I watch myself in the mirror as I move around the studio, allowing myself to relax as I dance to the song. Suddenly, the music stops and I stop dancing, breathing heavily.

I hear the door open and I turn around, looking at Aunty Heather who is grinning at me. Her brown hair falls down past her shoulders and her long slim figure walks towards me.

"Hey Aunty Heather, whats up?" I ask, trying to control my breathing. I have been dancing for the past two hours to relax my mind.

"River would like to talk to you. She says it's important." Aunty Heather says and I nod, tying my hair back in a hair ponytail. I walk out of the studio and down the hall where River's room is.

I open the door to see my little three year old girl playing with her dolls. Her straight brown hair is tied up in two buns on top of her head and chocolate brown eyes - which are now looking at me - shine in the light.

"Mommy, can you play with me?" River asks, pulling her top lip into her mouth as she pouts at me. I smile and walk towards her, lifting her up and resting her on my hip.

"I have a better idea. How about you get ready for bed and I'll read you a bedtime story. How does that sound?" I tell River and she grins.

Right now, I couldn't help but let my mind wonder. Every time I see my daughters grin, it reminds me so much of the man that used to have my heart.

Logan Maddox..

"I'll be back in ten minutes." I ask and River nods when I place her back on her bed. I walk out of her bedroom and down the hall where the kitchen is and I grab my phone of the bench.

I see a message from my mother. I click on the message and read the words slowly.

Mom: Your brothers graduation is on Friday so I hope to see you there. I would also like to see River too. I love you xx

Me: I know and I'll be there. I don't know yet if I'll be bringing River but I'll think about it. I love you too x

I place my phone back on charge and see Aunty Heather walk in. "Was that your mom?" Aunty Heather asks and I nod.

"Yeah she was just telling me about Joshua's graduation." I say and Aunty Heather smiles.

"I cant believe that boy is finally graduating." My Aunty says and I nod. Aunty Heather walks into the living room and I hear the Wentworth theme song come on and I gap at Aunty Heather.

"Pause it!" I say and Aunty Heather laughs, shaking her head.

"Nope, I want to watch it now."

"Please, I don't want to miss it." I beg and Aunty Heather sighs, nodding. I quickly thank her and walk back down the hallway to River's room.

I walk in and instead of seeing River playing with her dolls or jumping on her bed like usual, I find her small figure under the sheets and her head resting on her ladybug pillow.

So cute.

I walk over to her and crouch down, kissing her forehead. I brush her chocolate brown hair away from her face and smile. "Goodnight Riv." I say and I stand back up and walk out of her room, closing the door behind me. I walk into the living room and grin at Aunty Heather.

"Now you can press play." I say as I jump onto the couch.

Thursday rolled around quite quickly and now I find myself packing my suitcase. I tick the last thing off my list and scrunch it up, throwing it towards the bin and I smile when I get it in. I close my suitcase and stand up, walking over to grab River's suitcase.

"Mommy, are we going to see grandma and grandpa?" River asks and I nod, picking up the pink suitcase. I hear River squeal in delight and I can't help but smile.

I make sure everything is in River's suitcase and when it is, I shut her suitcase. Aunty Heather walks in and grabs the two suitcases. "The cab is here now." Aunty Heather says and I nod. I grab River and place her on my hip, walking out of my room and out the door.

"Mommy, I don't want to take the elevator." River says ans I nod.

"I know baby, that's why we are going to take the stairs." I say and River nods. When Aunty Heather takes the elevator, I turn left and walk straight down the stairs.

Sadly, River is claustrophobic and if she is in enclosed small spaces, she starts hallucinating and then she passes out. I always try to avoid places like elevators and stuff but sometimes, I forget so that's why I tell River to remind me so she does now.

We walk out the lobby and I see a white cab out the front. Aunty Heather is putting our suitcases in the trunk and when she is finished, I put River down and give my Aunty a quick hug.

"I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" Aunty Heather says and I nod. I let go of Aunty Heather and watch as she crouches down to River's height.

"I'm going to miss you, chubby cheeks." Aunty Heather says and River hugs Aunty Heather. When they let go off each other, we say our goodbyes once more before getting into the cab.

I knock on the door and wait for it to open. I look down at River who is happily smiling, waiting for her grandparents to come into view. When the door opens, River runs and hugs her grandma's legs, making me chuckle.

"Hello River, what a lovely suprise!" My mom says as she lifts River off the floor. River laughs and wraps her arms around her grandma's neck and hugs her.

"Hi grandma!" River says, kissing her grandma's cheek repeatedly, earning a chuckle from me. My mom smiles and places River down.

"Grandpa is up in his room. Go suprise him." My mom says and River nods, moving her little legs up the stairs. I smile at my mom and place the suitcases on the ground, hugging her. My mom smiles and hugs me back before pulling away.

"You haven't changed a bit." My mom says and I nod, smiling.

"Neither have you." I say and my mom chuckles. She grabs the suitcases and places them beside the door. I follow my mom into the kitchen and sit down on the stool.

"So, how have you been?" I ask my mom as she grabs two cups out of the cupboard. She grabs out the sugar and starts to scoop three teaspoons into each cup.

"Oh you know, same old. It's been quite lonely though. All Joshua has been doing is going out a partying." My mom says and I chuckle.

"Sounds like me." I say and my mom smiles, nodding.

"Very. Oh, did I tell you that Joshua is dating again?" My mom asks and I furrow my brows, shaking my head.

"No, who is the lucky girl?" I ask and my mom's smile slowly fades when she looks at me.

"Emma Maddox, Sarah's daughter." I feel my stomach clench at the name but I try and hide the emotions and out on a smile.

"Thats great." I say and my mom nods.

"Yeah but I find it wierd that Emma is a year older than Joshua." My mom says and I shrug, grabbing the cup that my mom places in front of me. I blow on it and look up at my mom.

"Age is just a number." I say and my mom nods in agreement. Suddenly, hands cover my eyes and I gasp.

"Guess correctly and your daughter lives." My father jokes and I chuckle, removing his hands from my eyes. I turn around and hug my father.

"Its good to see you again, dad." I say and my father smiles.

"Likewise." He says and I laugh when River grabs her grandpa's hand, turning him around.

"Play dolls with me?" She asks and my father looks back at me like he wants me to save him.

"Uh, okay..." My father says and River jumps up and down, smiling at her grandpa. When he starts to play with River, I can't help but sneak in a picture and my mom does the same. Unfortunately though, my mom's flash is on and my father looks at his wife, his eyes narrowed.

My mom gasps and she immediately runs away up the stairs. My father gets up and chases after her and I can't help but smile. River looks up at me and pulls a disgusted face.

"Yuck." River says and I roll my eyes.

"One day that will be you, Riv." I say and River shakes her head, frowning at me.

"No, boys have cooties." River says and suddenly, I see Joshua walk down the stairs, his eyes narrowing at his neice.

"Boys have cooties, aye?" Joshua asks and River nods, crossing her arms over her chest. Joshua smirks and attacks River, tickling her sides and River let's out a scream.

"Mommy, help!" River yells and I shake my head, sipping my tea as a playful grin makes it way onto my face.

"Your on your own with this one, Riv."

First chapter finished. Did you guys like it? What do you think of Avery? What about River? God, isn't she cute? The picture of Avery is at the top in the multimedia section is you forgot what she looks like... well, I don't know how you can forget what Selena Gomez looks like but for the people who did forget, she is in the multimedia section.

I'm sorry, I know nothing happens in this chapter but be patient. Next chapter you will see Logan again. Yay!

By the way, if you read on and you come across a bit where it says that River is four, she is supposed to be three. I had to change it since I kept writing her age as four all the time.
