Chapter 2
San took in a sharp breath and Wooyoung nearly choked on his spit before laughing.
"I don’t think so. Why?"
"Because everyone at school has a Mommy and a Daddy and I only have one Daddy and I want the pretty man to also be my Daddy."
San glanced at Yongbok through the rearview mirror and his heart broke a tiny bit once he realized that his son was starting to notice those kinds of things.
"I don’t think he can, little one. Maybe one day you can have two dads."
Yongok wasn’t going to have any of it and instead began whining in the back seat.
"But I want himmmmmm! Please Daddy?! I can share my room with him! I can even use the money from my piggy bank to buy him things! Or we can put him in your room!"
Wooyoung held a hand clamped tightly over his mouth to hold in his laughter and turned to look out the window so they wouldn’t see the amused tears forming in his eyes.
"No. I don’t think that is possible," San replied, keeping his eyes on the road. "You can’t just ask for things like that, Yong. You don’t even know his name and you can't call him "the pretty man" forever."
"But I DO know his name!" Yongbok whined.
Wooyoung wondered how the five-year-old knew his name and San wondered when his son had the opportunity to ask for the younger male’s name. He doubted he had heard during the meeting considering he was distracted staring at him instead of listening.
"Oh? Do you?" San asked. "Well let me hear it then."
"His name is Daddy!"
Wooyoung didn’t have enough time to cover his mouth and started laughing so hard the tears pooled down his face. San snorted and glanced at Wooyoung who was clutching his stomach as he leaned against the dashboard to calm down.
"I’m sorry but you can’t have him," San said. "And no, his name is not daddy."
"Well, I will move in with Binnie because he has two daddys. Don’t worry, I will still come visit you."
San rolled his eyes at his son but remained quiet.
"You can call me Woo," Wooyoung smiled, turning to look at Yongbok in the back seat.
That seemed to make the child happy and he nodded in excitement.
"I will take Daddy Woo to school when I have show and tell."
"No, you can't."
Yongbok was about to start complaining again when Wooyoung spoke up, interrupting the complaints that were about to errupt.
"Right there. By that apartment complex."
San glanced at it and memories started flooding in when he saw the building. It was the place where he lived for several years and the place where he raised Yongbok by himself for nearly three years.
"I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what number do you live in?" San asked.
Wooyoung found that a kind of strange question but answered nevertheless.
"In room One-Two-Seven."
San had a large grin when he heard the number and Wooyoung wanted to ask why but he decided against it and got off the vehicle with a thankful bow before walking into the apartment. The moment Wooyoung disappeared, San's grin disappeared and he turned to face Yongbok in the back seat.
"Don’t think you’re off the hook, little boy. When we get home we will have a talk."
The ride was eerily quiet and Yongbok knew the only way off the hook was to fall into a deep sleep. Luckily for him, it was Friday so he didn’t have to do homework that night. Getting as comfortable as possible, he lay on the seat and forced his brain to shut down so he could sleep.
"Go sit in the living room and wait for me," San instructed once they pulled into their driveway.
He didn’t hear any movement from the back seat so he turned to look at what was going on and let out a soft laugh when he realized his son had purposely fallen asleep to avoid consequences.
"You win this time," San whispered, shaking his head in fondness.
Carefully, he carried Yongbok to his bed and tucked him in for a peaceful sleep. He attempted to prepare a meal and ate dinner by himself before sitting on a sofa in his living room while staring at the ceiling. The words Yongbok had said in the vehicle earlier that evening kept ringing in his ears and he wanted to do something so his son could have two parents but what could he do?
It wasn’t like he could snatch someone up in a day and marry them and even if he did, the person was almost always after his money and didn’t care for him nor his son. With those thoughts in his head, he fell asleep on the sofa.
._._.
Wooyoung lay on his small, cramped bed wide awake at the early hours of the morning. He couldn’t sleep for various reasons and he knew he had to. His first day of work was in a few hours and he couldn’t afford to look sleep-deprived. He didn’t even know what he was supposed to wear.
He contemplated on calling San at 3 AM but wasn’t sure if that was a good idea. He had found the CEO’s number on a piece of paper given to him after he was hired but he didn’t think it was placed there so that he could call San at 3 in the morning.
After thinking it over a few times, he decided that he would call and if questioned why he was up at such odd hours, he would simply say he didn’t realize the time and thought it was earlier.
He placed San's number in his cracked phone and hoped he had credit in it to call. It rung and rung and rung and just as Wooyoung was about to hang up and leave it, a voice answered.
"Hello?" a child's voice answered. "My Daddy is sleeping right now."
"Oh hello Yongbok," Wooyoung greeted with a smile on his face. "Why are you awake?"
"I wanted water so I got some and then I was going to lay with my Daddy on the sofa but his phone started ringing."
"Is your dad sleeping on the sofa?" Wooyoung asked in concern.
"Yes. He sometimes falls asleep on the sofa when he thinks too much."
"Oh my. I’ll hang up now. You should go to sleep."
"Oka-"
"Yongbok, who are you talking to?" a sleepy voice, which belonged to San, asked.
"It’s Daddy Woo," Wooyoung heard Yongbok answer.
"Give me the phone."
Wooyoung heard the five-year-old pass his father the phone and then heard the male's deep and sleepy voice.
"Hello? Wooyoung?"
"Ah, I’m sorry for calling at such a random time."
"It’s fine. Was there something you needed?"
"I just wanted to know what I had to wear tomorrow."
Wooyoung hoped he wouldn’t have to wear something fancy because the only clothes he had were jeans and a couple of random shirts.
"Oh, don’t worry about that yet. Tomorrow we will go and find you some suits," San answered and Wooyoung felt a weight lift off of him.
Wooyoung bid farewell and just as he was about to hang up he heard the five-year-olds voice screaming "GOOD NIGHT DADDY WOO!" and he let out a laugh before responding with "good night" and hanging up.
All these years his life had been absolute shit but after spending a few minutes with Yongbok, it seemed that his miserable life didn’t matter that much anymore if he could spend time with the adorable child. He eventually fell asleep even though it was a struggle to do so but managed so he wouldn’t have to suffer eye bags in the morning.
San ended up going up to his room and took Yongbok with him to his bed even though the child had his own room. He took a shower not caring that it was 3 AM and then cuddled up beside his son, his chin being tickled by Yongbok's fluffy hair.
It was strange, he has had many male employees and he has had very few relationships yet Yongbok had never wanted any of them as his father but he had met Wooyoung for less than five minutes and it was until then the child suddenly wanted another parent.
Maybe it was simply because he was now old enough to realize most children had two parents or maybe Yongbok just felt connected to his new assistant. Either way, it was strange and San wasn’t looking for any relationship at the moment. Yongbok wouldn’t be having a second father any time soon and San was almost sure it wouldn’t be Wooyoung.
He couldn’t fall asleep, the topic of Wooyoung and Yongbok clouding his mind. He didn’t exactly want to tell his son to stop calling Wooyoung "daddy" but at the same time, it would be weird for him to just allow it so he didn’t know what to do.
It was nearing 5 AM now and San decided to at least get another two hours of sleep before he would have to get up and go to the company. Sleep came quicker than San expected and the two hours went by rapidly.
