Chapter 1

 Time skip of 5 years:

"AHAHAHAHAHA!" Yongbok screeched running down the street away from his father after school one day.

"YONGBOK! YOU BETTER STOP THIS INSTANT!" San hollered, frantically chasing after his five-year-old son who had managed to escape from his grip.

This wasn’t okay. Yongbok knew full well his father had an important meeting to attend to yet he decided it would be amusing to run down the street and have his father catch him.

"CHOI YONGBOK!"

Yongbok took a second to turn to look at how far his father was and laughed in glee when he realized he was still quite far behind due to all the people he had to get past. He sped up so that his father was even further behind and slowed down when he thought he had gotten far enough.

It was a sight to see a full-grown man in an expensive suit running down a street while clutching onto a bright purple kid backpack and a water bottle with tiny fishes decorating it.

"DAMN IT YONGBOK I HAVE A MEETING TO ATTEND TO!"

Yongbok squealed when he heard the voice close by and he started sprinting again.

"CHOI YONGBOK!"

There was anger in San's voice and the child knew he would get in trouble anyway so might as well have fun while it lasted. He risked a glance behind him and in the second he had looked back, he ended up crashing onto a stranger’s leg.

"Ow!"

Yongbok stumbled back a bit and held the place on his head where he hit. He glanced up at the man he ran into and the first thing the child instantly realized was that his purple hair was so pretty.

"Are you okay, sweetie?" the pretty male asked, gently grabbing onto Yongbok's shoulder and squatting down. "Did you get hurt?"

He quickly shook his head as a no and made a move to sidestep the male, but he was grabbed by the shoulder and yanked back.

"Choi Yongbok, we will have a serious conversation about this later. I have a meeting to attend to and I am now fifteen minutes late thanks to your antics. Tell the man sorry and we can go."

Yongbok looked into the pretty man’s eyes and bowed his head in apology.

"I’m sorry for not looking where I was going and crashing into you," Yongbok whispered.

"It’s alright. Now go with your dad and don’t cause too much trouble, okay?"

San placed Yongbok inside the vehicle that had pulled up beside them and turned to the male to apologize once more before they sped off to the company.

Yongbok sat beside his dad in the back seat and remained silent during the ten-minute ride. In all honesty, he wasn’t really scared of whatever his punishment was going to be, he was just feeling bad about making his father late for his important meeting.

"I’m sorry," Yongbok whispered, fiddling with his tiny fingers.

San let out a deep sigh and looked at his son from his peripheral side. He didn’t say anything except gently rubbed his hand over his son’s head. Yongbok knew he wasn’t fully forgiven yet but he now knew his father wasn’t angry anymore but instead disappointed.

They arrived at the company and San briskly walked to the elevator to get to the meeting room as quickly as possible. Yongbok struggled to stay with the fast pace but managed by forcing his tiny legs to go quick.

"Sit on that chair and don’t you dare move," San commanded, pointing to a chair in the corner of the meeting room once they arrived. "If you get up and cause chaos, your punishment will be worse than what it already is."

Three other people from the company were in the room and quietly watched as their CEO scolded his son. They knew he wasn’t a cruel man and knew that the word "punishment" wasn’t something to be concerned about.

Three other people were also in the room and attempted to subtly glance at San. One chair was empty and San let out a small sigh once he realized one person was missing.

"Good evening," San greeted, taking long strides to the awaiting chair at the head of the table. "I apologize for me being late. I had some difficulties this evening with my son."

He scanned the new faces at the table and the fact that one person was still missing made him want to wait an extra five minutes but he knew he had to proceed.

"I think we have all noticed that one person is missing and unfortunately, we will have to proceed."

San gathered his papers and made sure they were in order before he began. Just as he opened his mouth to begin, a knock was heard on the door and a small smile left San's mouth when he realized that a potential candidate was on the other side of the closed door.

"Yongbok, please open the door," San instructed.

An eager five-year-old bounced out of his seat and dramatically pulled the door open. A small gasp left his mouth and he displayed a toothy smile.

"It’s the pretty man!" Yongbok announced.

San let out a chuckle and ignored the looks he got from the others in the room.

"Allow him to come in then."

The same man Yongbok had bumped into on the street walked into the room with an amused smile and bowed in respect to everyone in the room.

"I’m sorry I arrived late."

"It’s alright. We would have arrived at the same time if I didn’t have a ride earlier," San reassured.

The man smiled in thanks and took the remaining empty seat. Yongbok went back to his seat and immediately began to sulk for being left alone once again.

"As all of you know, we are here for the position of becoming my personal assistant," San started. "I know you all know I have a secretary already but I need someone that can help me with random things that don’t necessarily involve work such as occasionally dealing with Yongbok," he said, motioning towards his son.

The candidates nodded in understanding and glanced at the little boy who sat on his chair staring with a large smile. San noticed one of them didn’t smile back at his son but instead had a badly concealed expression of distaste. He immediately removed him from any possibility of becoming his assistant because if the man couldn’t be kind to his son, then there was no reason to keep him around. Yongbok was San's everything and he didn’t want any random person walking into the five-year-old’s life and hurting him.

San's sour feeling disappeared as soon as he saw the pretty man smiling at his son with a kind expression. He would have to get his name immediately so he could stop referring to him as "the pretty man."

"First, we will begin with introductions then right after that, we will go in a separate room then call you one by one and ask you a few questions each," San stated.

San signaled for the first person to introduce themselves and then moved on to the next. San didn’t pay too much attention to them but when it came to the pretty man's turn, he paid full attention.

"Good morning, my name is Jung Wooyoung, and I’m twenty-two."

San was a bit surprised that they were the same age. Wooyoung seemed to be younger somehow but he figured it was simply because he was always stressed from trying to run an entire company and deal with a whole ass child.

The introductions were done and San stood up to go to the adjoining room so he could begin the individual interviews. The three people from the company stood up and one person from the candidates followed behind. The interviews were boring and San was feeling frustrated with some of the results but there remained one person and San hoped he would qualify.

"Jung Wooyoung," San called out from the doorway of the room.

Wooyoung stood up and quickly entered the room, bowing before taking a seat across from the four people in the room.

"Tell us a little about yourself," one of the company employees said, once Wooyoung had settled down.

"I’m from a place outside the city but I moved around here a few weeks ago. I’m an only child and I just barely finished high school," Wooyoung said, fidgeting with his fingers a little bit but keeping his head held up even though he felt like looking away in shame.

He knew he shouldn’t really feel shame because he did manage to finish high school but he felt it within him because these people that sat before him most likely had a high education in order to be where they were. So how could he become a personal assistant for someone that held such a high position?

The four in front of him nodded in understanding and looked at a paper each of them held.

"We will now ask you some questions and if you don’t feel comfortable answering them, you can say so," San told him.

Wooyoung nodded and awaited the first question.

"First question, you already mentioned you managed to finish high school so is there any reason you didn’t go to college?"

"Yes," Wooyoung began, not really wanting to answer the question and decided he would simply skip it. "I’m sorry but the reason is kind of difficult for me to talk about so I hope you understand."

The four nodded and moved on to the next question.

"Do you live with your parents?"

"No."

"Do you have a significant other?"

"No."

"Any plans to continue education?"

"No."

"Do you have any children?"

"No."

"Are you sick often?"

"No."

"Are you fond of children?"

"N- I mean yes," Wooyoung awkwardly chuckled.

San also chuckled. He was getting surprised at the amount of "no's" he was receiving and was glad there was finally a yes.

"Is there a particular reason why you applied for the job?"

"Yes. I need money and I’m kind of in a tight spot."

San understood what Wooyoung meant and felt bad for him. He was in that same position a few years back and he was glad for the opportunity that was given to him to become a CEO.

The interview continued for another three minutes and it finally came to an end. San was satisfied with Wooyoung's responses and even though the procedure was to wait a week before the results were sent out, he couldn’t help but want to hire the male on the spot.

"I know this isn’t standard procedure but I can’t help but to say you’re hired," San announced, standing up from his seat with a smile that faintly displayed his dimples.

Everyone looked at him with wide eyes and Wooyoung seemed to malfunction on the spot. The three that were interviewing looked like they wanted to argue with San but a glare from him was enough to shut them up and leave them with only a sour expression.

"I’ll be leaving now. Jung Wooyoung, it is nice knowing I finally have you as an assistant and I look forward to getting to work with you. I will be going home now to deal with some things and also have a serious talk with Yongbok."

With that, San left the room and picked up Yongbok who sat on the chair with his head dropping forward. Wooyoung trailed behind them and smiled at Yongbok who grinned back with a sleepy grin while his head rested on his father’s shoulder.

The elevator ride downstairs was quiet and once they reached outside and were parting ways, San decided to ask Wooyoung if he needed any transportation.

"Do you need a ride home?"

Wooyoung was going to decline but the realization that he hardly had any money left came across him and spending it on transportation when he had a free ride available wasn’t exactly a wise idea.

"Yes please."

"Hop in," San motioned to the passenger seat of his personal vehicle.

Wooyoung struggled a tiny bit to pull himself into the passenger seat of the high vehicle and got comfortable. They reversed from the parking lot and got onto the highway before rush hour would begin.

"Directions?" San asked, the first words spoken during the ride as they neared a round-a-bout.

"Right outside the center of the city, near the river."

San knew exactly where that was since he used to live in that area before he moved to the City's centre. The ride was quiet except for Yongbok who lay on the back seat muttering incomprehensible words as he drifted in and out of sleep. It was quiet for a while until Yongbok blurted out a question that nearly made San swerve off the road.

"Daddy, can the pretty man be my new daddy?"
