Chapter 5 - Signs

"Yo, what's she studying?" lamented a deep velvet voice from behind making my heart beat race faster than it's usual rate. My pupils dilated as cold feeling struck me quickly as I swirled my head up in surprise to see a smirking Percy walking towards the lifeless smart board. He picked up the chords carefully and plugged it in which woke the machine back to life. Words started popping up on the massive screen whilst I was still staring at the figure in front of me. By the time he was done I immediately diverted my eyes to my book again.

"No idea. I just came and surprise surprise she's holding a book!" retorted a very bored Imogen. She was never a morning person, none of us were, and has some serious mood issues in the morning as she barely talks unless we taunt her to. But right now she was just being an ass.

"Excuse me, but I have read tons of books and this isn't the first time you've seen me with one, right," I counter attacked, offended at her words, while my fingers turned the next page. Imogen gave me a sheepish grin which made me feel like knocking her cold before heading out of the class.

"What is she studying?" asked an alarmed Arlene as she  abruptly had just come into class. Wide eyed, she made her way towards me and peered at my text book before letting out a sharp gasp. "Is there a math test today?"

"N-no! I was just revising some chapters before class so don't worry," I calmed a tensed Arlene giving her an apologetic smile before returning to my book. "We do have a physics test today though."

"Yes, I know," she smiled as she trudged over to her place when something came into my mind.

"Oh, and Arlene?"

"Yeah?" she asked turning back.

"We don't have math today."

"Oh really?" she asked in surprise but her tone was delighted. Then her eyebrows creased as she thought of something. "Then why did you bring it ?"

"Just borrowed it. I have to return it today."

"Whoa!" she said shaking her head. "I forgot that today is Tuesday." she laughed at her  silliness and thanked me as she  headed out of class too.

I giggled at her cute face and continued my work. It wasn't like me to study early this morning in class. Especially math - the subject I hated the most. But what can I say ? It's  either my ass getting smacked by the teachers or my parents.

After a while of scanning through pages, my eyes started to feel like it was about to pop out and explode all over the numerals that were scattered across the pages.

"Uggghhh," I groaned loudly and softly banged my head onto the surface of my thick book. "Where's Dianaaaa?"

"She isn't going to come today remember?" reminded Naomi who happened to hear my frustration as she stepped into class. This made me groan even louder. "What are you doing anyways?"

"Hey dude, ummm... nothing just math," I mumbled tiredly and disgustedly gave the book a dirty look. Naomi on the other hand had a very shocked expression hanging on her face but before she could utter her doubts out loudly, I continued. "Yes, I was just trying to remember these sh!ts before my test on Thursday." She looked at me with an even more surprised and confused look as I had read her mind but shrugged it off a second later before sitting herself down in front of me.

Imogen, who returned back from her whereabouts, took a seat down beside me and instantly began to chat with Naomi. When I said she wasn't a morning person...she definitely isn't but there are times where she is happy and that sort of creeps me out. I sighed in defeat and lightly smacked my forehead before dashing out of the class to fix my auburn waves, I usually drag Diana with me everyday but since she's a ghost today I had to go alone. When I heard the morning bell screaming at us to get ready for class, Naomi finally came and joined me along with Christine who had managed to reach school in time.

The day started out alright with Biology as the first two periods and continued down to hell. It was when I began to feel lonesome (I WAS THE FREAKING WHOLE DAY) in the English period that I badly wished for Diana to be here. So Daphne joined me and sat in the place Diana sits.

"Hey Scar! Mind if I join you today as your Diana?" she asked in a teasing tone but I simply beamed at her and gave her a nod as I agreed for her to accompany me.

"Sure but just so you know, I'll never replace my Dee," I said and gave her a meaningful wink before continuing work. As time passed by, the period seemed to stretch further along and it felt like we've been sitting our asses down for years.

Daphne seemed to enjoy sitting with us and didn't feel guilty at all for leaving her buddies behind for the day since they were absent. Just as things started to get interesting, someone had to butt into our conversation.

"God, I feel so jealous that you're sitting next to her," came his annoying bored voice that sounded like he wanted attention. "Hey Morgan? "

"What?" he groaned as he leaned his head onto his chubby palm without looking at his friend.

"I'm jelousss," he repeated which resulted in Morgan having to end up asking him to shut up.

"What's sup with him?" I wondered and sent Daphne a confused look. She just giggled and turned towards the back row.

"Just ignore them Scar, they're just attention seekers. Hey if it's attention you want why we ask Ms. Savanna to respond to your pleas ?" she challenged them, making me burst of in tears as the class became silent for a while with the sounds of me laughing ringing through the hallow room.

Percy gave a bewildered look before continuing his work as Ms. Savannah turned towards our direction. Her adorable baby face and baffled looks made her look even more like a child with her perfectly platted hair hanging loosely at her side. Her mahogany striped cat eyed glasses exposes her dark earth eyes to appear more larger and rounder. Her petite form made her look more french than her birth origin, her voice then turned shrilled and high pitched when she called out to the students at the back rows to quite down.

Ms. Savannah's class wasn't even close to ending when our fiction teacher, Ms. Veronica Cooper , abruptly walked into class and asked for a switch as it was urgent and Ms Savannah didn't have to be told twice before packing up and left oft towards the direction the other class. Looks like they would have non-fiction to endure now. Good.

"Alright everyone, we've got to work more faster here if you want to revise before Mocks. Now turn to the last page we annotated and Sam please stand up and read the last line we discussed," she spitted like a wild fire trying to get away from a torrent. Sam on the other hand had to take time to digest what our fast speaking teacher just blurted before replying.

"Urmh, yes Ma'am," he hesitated nervously as he cleared his throat when he realized it was not the page he was suppose to read and began flipping to the correct page. Our teacher was one to be careful with as she is an impatient women who needs to work to be complete in a snap. She was much older than Ms. Savanna and was widowed at her early thirties and left to fend for her two children who are already working and helping their mother who refused being the strong woman she thinks as she can perfectly help herself well despite her age. With her tall height and piercing eyes you can never tell whether she is mad or just joking with you but when she does you'd have this awkward feeling surrounding you.

Sam then gave a quizzed look to Ryan, his seat mate and frantically whispered what the page was which soon lead the whole class erupting into a laughing mess.

"What's all this commotion?" scolded Ms. Veronica suspiciously. "Sam I thought I told you to begin not chatter with Ryan."

"Yes, sorry Ma'am," apologized Sam with a grin and started the lesson.

xxxxxxxxxx

"Gosh my back hurts!" I grumbled to Daphne who was also stretching her legs and body. "After sitting on that chair straight for 2 hours I think I'm going to go for a run in the football pitch, coming?" Daphne was busy with her shoe laces and didn't have time to answer me.

As if on cue, another voice entered our conversation," No, I'm too lazy to tag along." We both turned our head to face the owner of the voice before sending him glares. I really did hate him sometimes but he only gave us back evil smirks.

"Who asked you ass?" I fumed but maintained my cool. Before he could reply, a girl from the higher grade asked to for Daphne urgently at which Daphne responded with a yes.

"Sorry, maybe I'll catch you later ok, the break will only last for 5 minutes so there won't be any use going far. Study Physics while you're at it," she apologized and patted my bag before heading out leaving me alone with Percy. The class was almost half empty with just me, Imogen, Sherry,Christine and few other that were too far from us.

I grabbed my text book out and started to study when after a while got really bored as I'd usually do this with Diana. I turned to look behind me only to come face to face with the ass. He was busy concentrating although it looked like he was doing it lethargically.

"Sooo...how much have you studied?" I asked to ease the tension in me. Since I sat in the corner, I leaned against the wall and faced him as I crossed my legs.

"Not that much."

 Lies.

"Shut up."

"No seriously, like I haven't touched my book till now," he chuckled making me roll my eyes and decided that I leave him alone to continue. Crossing my legs in front of me, I flipped to chapter 7 and started memorizing how the fission process. Somehow time went by and I grew even more anxious to remember everything.

I hadn't been able to study the night before and I was going to be doomed. Just as I was getting the hang of it, a sneaky devil interrupted the peace.

Percy had somehow allowed this creepy thought to abruptly enter his mind and blast it through his mouth. Without thinking twice, he called out to Sam, who was hungrily munching down his toasted Nutella sandwich.

"Hey Sam," he began with an evil  smirk which kept growing by the second. This was not going to be ....

"We're dating." He turned to stared at my slowly and see how I'd react.

That did it.

Blood immediately started gushing through my cheeks making it flush red and hot. My eyes grew wide that I thought it would pop and my mouth gave a queried gasp. I toppled over my seat, eyes wild and confused.

WHAT!!??

"W-What?" asked a surprised and shocked Sam who had just repeated my thoughts and acted startled but Percy continued with confidence which made me almost reluctant to slap him and shut that mouth up.

"After that I'll marry her," he continued. I almost choked on my own spit after hearing those words slip out. He spoke confidently that it didn't even look like it bothered  him if other unwanted ears heard.

I gawked at him - dumbfounded. I swear to god I was ready to kick the life out of this kid.

The guts he had to say that in front of me all the while I was cowering under my book hiding the embarrassment that was swelling in me from the world. I still couldn't believe Imogen, Sherry and Christine hadn't heard it yet which I took as a relief.

And I'm going stop right here because the audacity he had to continue was off the limits which I took as an offense. I wanted to explode and burn him. It was freaking...unexpected. Sam and him on the other hand couldn't stop themselves which made me want to condemn them both to hell without mercy.

"What the fuck guys!" I shouted and at that exact moment I stood up to grab Percy's bag the bell rang. "Perfect." He had a class that was not with me and thank god for that. I wouldn't be able to stand his presence nearby any longer. So without a word, I quickly ran and dumped it in the other class only to come back with an annoyed Percy.

"What was that for?" he asked wildly but with a toothy grin. I could only glare. I do hate him sometimes.

"To get you out of my face so you can leave me alone!" I yelled throwing my hands to my chest as I crossed my arms and trudged outside to get some fresh air. I later soon returned to find him gone from our class and sat down until our teacher arrived. It was obviously Ms. Veronica. I enjoyed her lessons when she taught literature as it felt like venturing into a deep mysterious world different world away from my tortured troubles.

When it was time for us to begin Physics, Percy came a minute too late to class and was beaten by Morgan who had stolen his place. This made Percy furious and fought over it until Morgan had to give in laughing. So as we were taking our exam, I constantly felt my chair getting kicked by someone from behind. Of course I know who it was and moved further front to get away from them. I finished half an hour later and when bell rang, immediately got up to escape the dense class while grabbing Daphne who promised to have a volleyball match with me. It was the last period and PE was just as fun as always but I felt more empty today without my best friend. She isn't a big fan of sports and prefers to stay out of the dirt but does play badminton which she claims she is good at.

By the end of the day, I was exhausted and sweaty from all the running I had to do and had to stay after school for my business studies class. When school ended, I got the opportunity to be alone for a while and took my phone out. I dialed Diana and thankfully she heard it and answered back with a sickly voice ...or was it ?

"Scar! Aww you remembered," she coed into the phone. I knew she had a meekly smile on but was trying hard to disguise it.

"Yes I did," I answered rolling my eyes.

"Almost forgot. You can come see me around after your class since I live behind school. I'll come pick you up after 3 pm."

"But you're sick!"

"Nahh, just period cramps, nothing else."

"WHAT?! And because of that you left me alone today. It's your 6th day for God's sake!"I shot, firing the facts at her.

"Yeah but I get these occasionally," she grumbled."Alright I gotta go before my mom finds out what I've been up to. I'll see you then dongsaeng. Cya!"

"Ass," I seethed and walked back to class.

"Who was that?" asked Daphne who happened to be walking behind me. I told her and asked if she was saying. Unfortunately she wasn't which made it even seem more lonelier. I couldn't wait to embrace my bed.

Luckily Naomi accompanied me that afternoon and I ended up learning Business Studies - with Percy who happened to stay as well. I hadn't told anyone about the incidents earlier and just kept my mouth shut as I was too tired to talk.

Suddenly the sound of metal chairs being pulled back harshly caught my ears and knowing what might happen next - I braced myself for it.
