See we all have anniversaries in our lives; the anniversary of when you met your true love, maybe the anniversary of being lucky enough to marry that person or how about the anniversary of when you first started writing, or the first time you truly listened to a Prince song. All those anniversaries in our lives are milestones, celebrations of the important events that make us the person we are. July 2nd is a very important anniversary for me.

3 years ago at this very moment I was laying in a pre-op room covered with a heated, inflatable blanket, talking to my husband. Doctors, surgeons, and nurses all came and went from my little room updating me on the progress of my friend's surgery and preparing me for my trip into the operating room. I was beyond nervous, literally trembling in that bed. What if I didn't wake up? What if she didn't wake up? What if it didn't work? Those worries plagued my mind until the medication took them away.

I woke up some hours later, late afternoon or early evening, it's a bit of a blur. I made it. She made it. It worked. No more 12+ hours of treatment a week. No more tubes permanently affixed to my body. No more watching myself die.

So today my close friend and I will celebrate. We will drink and share stories to celebrate the fact that I am still here to do all those things and to celebrate the fact that she is the person who gave me this opportunity.
