New 'Home'
I walk to the front of an apartment building. I look at one of the two notes in my hand to confirm if this is the right address, which it is. I walk into the building quietly, and go up the stairs to the 4th floor. I go to room 35 and knocked on the door. I hear grumbling from the inside. The door opens up showing a purple scruffy looking man. "You wanna die kid?" He grunts out. I just blink at him, and hand him a piece of paper my mom gave me. He opens it up and reads it while glaring at the paper. He shoves it into his pocket and turns his glare to me. "Listen here, brat. Go fuck off, cause I'm not taking care of you." When he's does with his rant he slams the door in my face.
I just go and sit on the floor, against the wall, next to the doorframe. Waiting for him to come back out. After a couple of hours of me just being out there and hugging my plush, he walks back out in a purple uniform. I stand up and stare at him. "Ugh... you're not going away easily are you?" He wanders out loud angry. "Fine then." He grabs my arm and drags me to the elevator. "I can't have you standing out there and attracting attention all night."
The elevator ride felt like forever, tension basically radiating off him. When the doors open I'm dragged again, but this time outside. He unlocks the car, and basically forces me into the backseat. He slams the backseat door and gets in the driver seat. He closes his door and starts up the car. He looks at me through the rearview mirror. "Don't try shit." He grunts out. The car backs up and then drives away. I watch the outside world pass by from the window. Mapping out every little detail just incase something happens. The car slows down and pulls into a weird looking parking lot. The man gets out of the car and starts walking off to a building ahead.
I open the car door and hop out, making sure the car door is closed behind me. I run up to him, making sure I don't get left behind. The building were walking into had a sign that had a bear eating pizza. There's also words on it but I don't know how to read yet. He opens up the door and walks through. I follow him inside quickly.
I look around at the strange room and see three robot looking things on the stage, a bunch of tables and chairs, and some arcade machines in the back. A man walks out of the hallway. He had a grey uniform on with a security hat on too. "Finally, it took you long enough Vincent." He complains. Three other guys walk into the room. I try to hide behind, whom I assume to be, Vincent's legs. One guy had a red phone head, the other one had a weird marking on his face, and the last one looked like a big cuddly marshmallow. "Uh Vincent... who's the kid, and why are they here?" The one with the phone head questions.
"Apparently it's my kid. I tried to get rid of them, but they're annoying and won't go away." Vincent complains. I guess he's my dad, but kinda not. He doesn't act like the other kids' dads, he's not nice or caring at all. "S-shouldn't they not be h-here?" The one with the mark on his face stutters out. "Meh. I just thought this would be a way to get rid of them." He just shrugs with a smirk on his face.
The one with the phone head comes over to me and kneels down. "Where's your mom?" He questions. I feel everyone's stare on me, and I fidget a little. "Gone..." I answer while looking at the ground. "Well you can come home with me I guess... I doubt Vincent would take good care of you." He says the last part loudly, which causes Vincent to glare at him. "Wanna bet?" He growls out, his eyes look pinkish. "No." He picked me up and walked down a hallway with the others following.
We go to a room, and I get set down in a chair. I look around and see all of them sitting in a chair except for Vincent. I climb off the chair and go under the desk. No one was near it so I was fine. "Why did you go under there?" The one greyish guy with the cap questions. I just shrug and try to go into the darkness more.
I sit there in silence for who knows how long. Just staring at the floor. I had no thoughts going through my head. I never really do anymore.
Hours pass by as I waited there. I don't know how much time has passed.
The only thing that pulled me out of my empty world was a pair of hands that grabbed me gently. I stiffened at the touch and tried not to move or breathe. "Hey, just relax. It's not like I'm going to beat the shit out of you." The greyish one says while holding me on his side. I shake a little at the thought. "So that's why your mom is gone..." He wonders aloud, already knowing the answer. This drew the attention of everyone else. Their questioning stares on us both, I hated the attention. I start to breathe a little harder than normal, but I try not to make a sound.
"I believe I know what you're talking about, Mike." The phone head guy pipes up. "This whole thing shows that the kid probably has been abused. Along with being sent out just to not go back to their mom." The one call Mike explains while still holding me. I was quickly taken out of Mike's arms. I look up quickly to see my supposed dad.
Without a word he walks out with me in his arms. I hear shouting from the back room and then some footsteps. We turn the corner and I see the other grown ups just walk into the hall with shocked faces. We go outside and back to the car. He puts me in the backseat and buckles me up, still not saying a word. He closes the door and I see the others talking to him. Well it looked more like yelling, but I kinda hope it's not.
He only looked at them and then got into the car. He started it up and drove off. I watch the others just stand there in shock. I watch as the world goes past quietly, the sun rising and showing its light to the world. The air in the car felt heavy, and awkward. We get back to the apartment complex. He gets out and then opens my door. He unbuckles the seat belt and picks me up.
He carries me inside and to the elevator. When the doors open he walks out and unlocks the door. I watch as we go through the semi dirty house. Things are just kind of thrown around, with dirty plates here and there. It was still cleaner than Mom's house though. He takes me to an empty room and just sets me down on a bed. He walks towards the door and hold onto the door knob. His head turns and we meet eye contact, I think. "Go to sleep. We'll have a talk about you staying and stuff when you get back." He closes the door with that statement.
I grab the light blanket and cover up quietly. There was no reason to stay awake. There's nothing to do into the room and there's a better life in my dreams. I close my eyes and let myself slip into the darkness of sleep.
