Chapter 23: Explanation
A chill ran down my spine as he whispered to me, the proximity between us causing me to shiver as he spoke in my ear. "You look beautiful, Juliette Hunter" A blush covered my cheeks as I found myself at a loss for words. Despite how close we were standing, I found myself feeling more overwhelmed than anything else.
No panic attack.
"Tell me how I'm supposed keep my eyes off of you tonight" his lips brushed against my ear the slightest bit.
"Are we interrupting something?" I heard Eliza's voice ask as both Levi and I sprang apart.
I didn't even hear the door open.
I turned to see Eliza and Jordan stood besides each other, both smirking, both entirely amused. I heard Levi clear his throat, either out of embarrassment or awkwardness. I couldn't tell. I looked down, allowing my curls to cover my red face. Maybe there was an upside to having my hair down.
I finally met Eliza's eyes, I saw the smirk disappear off her face as her eyes widened "You look amazing Juliette" She squealed as she ran up to me and hug me. When she got close to me she whispered "Did I interrupt an almost kiss?" It was so discreet that even I almost missed it. She pulled away from the hug and looked at me expectantly.
I rolled my eyes before shaking my head. "Do you need to get ready?" I asked
"I mean, I'm not planning on holding my dress for the rest of the day" she replied sarcastically grinning.
"Sarcasm" I commented, impressed "You're learning"
She smiled "Who better than to learn from you?"
It was then, that I knew everything was fine between the two of us. "I'm so-" I began
She interrupted me. "Don't even think about it Juliette"
"Oh, Isla wants you and Levi downstairs for pictures" Jordan said to the two of us, "She said because you two were already done, she would start the pictures now". Levi and I both nodded and headed out of the room before I felt a hand grab my wrist. "I told her not to make you two stand to close" Jordan told me, quietly.
I nodded "Thank you"
When I got out, Levi was waiting for me besides the stairs. "I figured you would need help getting down the stairs" He commented, looking down at my five inch heels.
I looked down at my shoes and found myself agreeing with him. There was no way in hell I could get down these steps without tripping and dying. Levi had his hand held out, expecting me to hold it. I hesitantly extended my arm, slowly placing my palm in his as he wrapped his hand around mine. I felt a spark when his hand touched mine, a shiver running down my spine.
I slowly began stepping down the stairs, careful with not tripping over my own two feet, as Levi slowly helped me downstairs. Although, for whatever reason, my ankle twisted slightly, causing my body to be thrust forwards, and I definitely would have fell to my death if it wasn't for Levi's left arm wrapping against my side and pulling me back up. I don't think my body was able to react to the fact that Levi's arm was still around me. My heart was pounding but it was mostly out of the shock of nearly dying, not Levi's arm being around me.
Or at least I hoped it was.
He smirked at me slightly, as his arm slowly removed itself from my waist "You okay?"
I exhaled "Yeah" I nodded "Thank you for not letting me fall to my death"
He chuckled "It was a pleasure"
I shook my head, laughing slightly "Heels and clumsy girls should not go together" I commented "I could be the smartest person in the entire school but that would not stop me from tripping over my own two feet"
Levi grinned "I think it's cute that you insist on almost dying every few minutes"
I rolled my eyes "I find it scary that I insist on almost dying every few minutes" I said as I slowly continued walking downstairs "which genius decided that getting dressed on the second floor was a smart idea?" I muttered, more to myself than to Levi.
"They probably should have got you to plan the wedding, although, everything would probably be on the ground floor considering you're too lazy to climb stairs" He commented, smirking slightly.
I groaned "Even the word 'climb' tires me out"
Levi chuckled "Remind me to take you to the gym one day"
I rolled my eyes again, "Me and gym should not go in the same sentence"
We finally were able to get downstairs, and I did not die which seemed like a much better achievement than it really was. We were first greeted by Emma who looked me up and down, snarled, and then turned to Levi.
"You look really good" She said to him as I rolled my eyes "I'm sorry for what had happened before, I was a little frustrated with the help"
What she said had made me wonder what had happened before but I found myself shaking my head anyway. "They're real people, you know" I muttered, irritating that she called the really nice people who gave up their time to do our hair and makeup, 'the help'.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever" She muttered, waving me off, her eyes not once leaving Levi's.
He coughed nervously "we should go" he said to me, placing his hand on the small of my back and leading me forward.
We got outside to their back garden, where there were camera and lighting equipment set up. There was also a gazebo which I had no idea actually was there before. There in front of the gazebo was Isla. She held flowers and was smiling at the camera. She was wearing a gold and pink dress, the top part of her dress had a sweetheart neckline, it was gold and shiny, I could exactly describe the material. The bottom however was like a rusty pink colour, it flowed down all the way to the ground and looked as if it was made out of a netted material.
She looked gorgeous.
When she noticed us, she grinned and told the camera man to stop. She headed towards both of us. "You two make such an adorable couple" she squealed, placing her hand on my arm as she looked down at both of our hands. I hadn't realised, but I was still holding hands with him and I didn't feel as of I was in any danger.
I felt safe with him.
I smiled at her "thank you" I said "you look beautiful"
She grinned, clearly excited "thank you! So do you" she said "anyway, you two were the first ready so I thought it would be best if we started off the pictures now. So the camera man will tell you exactly what to do, except he is under strict orders" the last part was clearly directed at me.
I nodded once again and was lead by Levi to the gazebo. We both stood there awkwardly waiting to be instructed on how to take the pictures.
The camera man finally looked up from his phone and apologised "I'm so sorry, that was unprofessional" he began. He was young, maybe 23 or so, he had dark brown hair and brown eyes. He looked as of he was about 6ft tall.
"It's fine" Levi answered, a small smile plastered on his face.
"You guys are already holding hands, that's cute. Okay, first what I want you guys to do is to turn your bodies to face each other's." He instructed as we both hesitantly did so.
Because we were still holding hands, it lead us to be standing really close to each other. Maybe about a twenty centimetre difference between the two of us. I found my heart to be pounding a little quicker, my breaths deepening.
"Hey, look" Levi said quietly "It's just me. You can trust me" he reminded as the grip on my hand loosened slightly; he traced circles on the back of my hand.
I nodded, looking into his eyes, and once again finding myself being hypnotised by the depth of his eyes.
"Have I told you how beautiful you look today?" He asked, grinning again.
I smiled, laughing the slightest bit "at least three times"
"I love it when you smile" he whispered.
I blushed "well you're doing a pretty good job of making it happen"
We were snapped out of the daze, reminded once again that we weren't alone when the photographer said "You guys are probably the most natural couple I have ever photographed. You must really love each other"
My eyes widened as I looked up at Levi, noticing how even the tips of his ears had turned pink.
"Okay thank you guys" The camera man began once again. "So many people to photograph"
I wanted to say something but I lost my ability to do so every time I remembered the camera man talk about Levi and I. "Thank you" replied Levi as I nodded. We both went down the steps of the gazebo, Levi once again helping me down the stairs as I held his hand.
At least this time I didn't nearly die.
The entire time after that, Levi and I were basically pulled apart from each other. I had spent the entire hour with Eliza, speaking to all the guests who had apparently known me for my entire life, although I didn't recognise any of them. I was also repeatedly questioned about my claustrophobia and my PTSD which made me glad that Levi was nowhere near me. Eliza however was always at my defence when people asked about it.
She would always say something along the lines "Yes, she suffered from the problems a few years ago. But she's improving and she's trying to forget. It would help if it wasn't brought up so much"
Of course, that was regarded as rude to everybody she said it to, however in our family Eliza wasn't best known as the polite one. But she didn't care and neither did I. She was someone who I loved, and nobody's opinions about her would change mine, no matter how annoying she was.
Levi, however, I had no idea what he did. All I know was that as soon as aunt Jen approached Eliza and I, telling us that there were some people we had to meet, he disappeared with Jordan. He probably was meeting all the groomsmen which could possibly be better than what I spent my entire time doing.
We actually got five minutes alone, just before we were told which car we were going to take to the wedding, that was the perfect time for Eliza to pester me about that had happened between me and Levi.
"I want to hear it right here and right now" she demanded "do you like him?"
I sighed "maybe? A little bit?"
"I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!" She squealed slapping my arm repeatedly as I ripped it away from her grasp.
"Can you calm down!" I scolded, blushing.
"I need to tell Jordan" she grinned brining her out her phone before I snatched it away from her.
"Are you crazy? For all we know them two are together. What if he sees the text?" I whispered harshly
She sighed "fine"
We were finally told to get into the cars as soon as all the bridesmaids had taken the pictures and even during that there was no sight of Levi. We saw Jordan for about ten minutes when he took the pictures with Eliza, but as soon as he got off the gazebo he walked off, claiming there were things he needed to do.
Even in the cars, it was just Eliza, aunt Jen and I which was ridiculous considering the boys had no other ride, of course one of the groomsmen so kindly offered to drive us. But to be honest, I think he had a thing for Eliza.
"I don't understand where the boys ran off to" Eliza sighed, completely confused.
I shook my head, shrugging "neither do I"
"You guys weren't told?" The groomsmen asked us from the front seat
"Told what?" Eliza replied
"We were all playing poker. It was a serious game. Your boyfriend's really good at it Juliette, I'm pretty sure he was cheating" he replied solemnly.
Not my boyfriend.
Eliza looked at me in disbelief, "Our boyfriends left us for a game of poker?"
I laughed "Oh how gentlemanly of them"
"I spent at least twenty minutes looking for him, where were they?" She questioned
"The garage?" The groomsmen questioned, more himself than us. "Yeah the garage, they all said they needed quiet to think"
"What were they playing with?" I asked
"Lots of candy left over from the extra wedding favours" He told us
"And Levi won?"
"Yeah" I could see him nod from the rear view mirror
I grinned "I'm stealing it off him"
