apologies
"What happened to your pretty face?", I pointed to Jeff's eye when I met him in school. When I had left the party, he didn't have the black eye decorating his face. "Funny", he seemed annoyed. "Seriously, what happened? And why are you annoyed? I didn't do anything, did I? We just met and yesterday we were okay", I wondered narrowing my eyebrows.
"Sorry, my day just started bad. Scott said hi to me this morning and then gave me that black eye saying something like I kissed you? Since when he's so weird?" "Wait, he said that you kissed me?" "Yeah and then he hit me", Jeff shrugged his shoulders. What if Scott had seen Charlie and I and thought that it's been Jeff? Fuck, it's my fault..
"Ellie, what did you do?", he questioned knowing that my silence was quite suspicious. "Charlie kissed me yesterday", I sighed, "I'm sorry that Scott even hit you. He must have thought it's been you." "Charlie kissed you?!", Jeff almost screamed at me but I told him to lower his voice, "Charlie kissed you? When? How? If you're kissing someone else than Scotty, it should be me."
I gave him my "are-you-serious"-glance, "He said something like he really likes me and then kissed me." "That's why you were so upset", Jeff assumed. "I mean I basically cheated on Scotty. I actually wanted to talk to him when the right time comes but now that he knows.. he probably hates me."
"At least he doesn't know what really happened. As far as I know, he thinks you're over him." "I'm not", I sighed throwing my head back into my neck, "Ugh, what a start for a day at school. Oh sorry, your black eye says yours was worse."
"Jatkins, what happened to your pretty eye?", Sheri and Charlie walked over to us, oh oh.. "I caught that black eye for you", Jeff already joked looking at Charlie. "Me?", he looked at us confused. "Scott saw that we kissed and thought it's Jeff", I explained gaining a look from Sheri, "I know, I'm going to talk to him."
"Scotty?", I finally approached him feeling guilty. "What do you want?", his voice was deep and he didn't sound happy to see me, of course. "Jeff and I didn't kiss at the party." "I don't know why I would care about that", he replied coldly. "Well, I assume you didn't hit him for nothing." "Oh."
"But it wasn't him. I have to admit, I've kissed somebody - no, he kissed me, actually - but it wasn't Jeff. I wouldn't do that to you, Scotty." "No, it's alright, you can do whatever you want to do." "I wanted to talk to you yesterday, I've waited for the right moment. I still love you", I suddenly blurted out. Man, I wish the past weeks wouldn't have happened.
"What do you expect me to say?", Scott looked at me emotionless, "Of course I love you, Els. It's just.. Who did you kiss then?" "I.. Scott, does that really matter?" "It does to me." "I can't tell you", I whispered shaking my head lightly. That would cause problems in the team and I couldn't be the reason for that. "I thought so", he sighed disappointed and walked away with his head down.
"So he wasn't ready to talk to you?", Jeff asked me when we walked through the supermarket looking for sweets for tonight. We had invited Sheri and Justin for a movie night. I still have't talked to Monty which I also wanted to do after Sheri had convinced me. "I can't blame him. I fucked up", I sighed again throwing some packs of ice cream into the cart.
"Well, why wouldn't you just tell him that it's been Charlie?", he shrugged his shoulders. "If he knew that I kissed Charlie, they wouldn't get along anymore. You know how important that is for your team." I didn't watch out so I bumped into someone. When I looked at the person, I recognized her as Scott's mom.. fuck.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Reed, I didn't look where I was going", I stuttered, not calling her Sarah because of what I've done. She probably hated me, too. "Elizabeth, Jeff", she let out surprised, "You're here together." "Yeah but just as friends", Jeff helped me, "There's nothing going on between us. Did Scott say something?"
She took a look at his black eye, "Well at least he didn't mention Charlie." Yeah, of course, she had to hear that. Why was I even so stupid to talk about it in a supermarket? Or kiss Charlie in the first place? The situation got awkward really quickly. "I've tried to talk to him today, I'm really sorry", I tried to justify myself automatically.
"That's none of my business, Elizabeth. Please just.. tell him what you want and don't hurt him anymore. He's done a lot for you." Jeff looked at me, he felt the same as I did. Of course she was his mom but we both did a lot for each other and both of us are hurt. It's not only me, not only him. "Yeah, of course."
"What do you want here?", my voice was harsher than I intended it to be when Monty sat on the stairs to our front door. "Jeff, can you give us a moment?" Jeff looked at me waiting for a sign so I nodded. I gave him the keys so he could bring our groceries to the kitchen. "Sorry, I didn't mean to be harsh. It's not the best day", I gave him a crooked smile.
"Ellie, I'm sorry for what I've done. I know I shouldn't have protected Bryce like I did but Sheri, you and him are all that I've got. I didn't think about it properly." "I wanted to talk to you anyways. It's alright, Monts. Sheri forgave you and I don't see why I shouldn't. Can you just please talk to Scotty? He's your friend."
I knew that he was still friends with Bryce but it was none of my business, actually. And my friendship to monty meant more to me than that. "I'd do anything if that means that we are friends again. You don't know how much that means to me", he stood up, his mood changed to being relieved. "It means the same to me, Mountain", I let him clasp me in his arms.
Monty and I were friends again. The others and I were friends. Only Scott was still angry with me, he basically ignored me for one week straight. I had tried to talk to him but I know it's my fault so I knew I had to give him time. Or accept that he doesn't want to talk to me anymore. Whatever he decides. But I was thankful for how my life was going on right now. I couldn't complain.
"He doesn't hate you dumbass", Monty shook his head when we stepped out of my car. We came to my house after school to hang out. "Did we change?", I laughed that now I was the one who was called the dumbass - with good reason. "Well, I've talked to Scott like you asked me to", Monty grinned at me sweetly, "What's up with Gordon?"
He pointed to my dog who ran around the fence hyperactively. I furled my eyebrows, I haven't seen that behavior on him before. I mean, my grandpa gave him to me about four weeks ago. I still had to get to know the way a dog behaves. But he wouldn't stop barking.
"I don't know", I wondered shrugging my shoulders, I thought he might be hungry. I kneeled down to stroke through his fur. He just barked even more. What did that dog want? He got food just three hours ago and I'm trying to get closer to him. "Come on, let's give him some feed", Monty nodded into the direction of the kitchen. "Yeah, you're probably right", I sighed opening the door so Gordon immediately ran in.
Of course, he still didn't stop barking. Man, was he really hungry after three hours already? My granddad said he would be home so he would get anything that he needs. But what confused me was that our dog didn't run into the kitchen where he would normally get his food but to the living room. I shook my head confused but decided to follow him. That changed everything. "I'm calling the ambulance", Monty's voice was silent in my head, I couldn't hear him clearly. Gordon was quiet now.
