Chapter 36
(Blake's POV)
I looked around the snow, looking for my stuff. I heard footsteps coming from the train cart. I looked around and everyone is already out of the train cart. I looked back and saw a short old lady walk out into the snow.
Marie: That was quiet the way to wake up. Is everyone alright?
Ruby: We are. Are you ok? Did you get hurt?
Marie: I'm fine. I'm not as old as I look.
I heard Yang start to grunt. I looked over to see her trying to pull her bike out of the snow.
Yang: Great! This is just great! We're stranded, we lost a third of our party, and we've gained a defenseless old lady!
Yang yanked on her bike, getting it out of the snow, but she fell over into the snow and her bike fell on top of her.
Marie: My name is Maria Calavera, and I am not defenseless! I'm just a little hard of hearing. And blind without my eyes, that are in desperate need of repair.
She tapped on a pair of mechanical glasses that are covering her eyes.
Marie: Okay, I'm starting to see your point.
Yang pushed her bike up and got out of the snow.
Qrow: Yang, knock it off, will ya? If we lose our cool now, we'll just be inviting even more Grimm.
Blake: Does that even matter? Apparently, we've been attracting Grimm ever since we left Haven.
Yang: Oh, and how could I forget about that?
Yang walked up to Oscar.
Yang: What happened to no more lies and half truths?
Oscar: Yeah, I think it's time we got an explanation...
Oscar's body started to glow, meaning Ozpin has taken control of his body.
Ozpin: I did not lie to you...
Weiss: Well you certainly didn't tell us everything about the Relic.
Ozpin: Please, now is not the time.
Yang: No, we're past that! I wanna know why you're still not telling us everything!
Ozpin: It is true that the Grimm are attracted to the Relics. It's faint, but undeniable. I believe it has to do with their origin, but I'm not entirely sure. Regardless, I feared that making you all aware would only add anxiety and negativity. It seemed like the safer option.
Weiss: You know, I'm getting real tired of people choosing what's best for me.
Yang: Is that why you chose to lie to everyone about Lionheart too?
Ozpin: Yes, as a matter of fact, I believed the Kingdom of Mistral deserved better than the truth. And I believed Leonardo deserved to be remembered for his lifetime of service, and not for the unfortunate missteps he made in his final years.
Yang: Missteps?!
Ozpin: What Professor Lionheart did was reprehensible. I am not here to argue differently, but does one lapse in judgment truly negate all of his good? Do we not all have regrets? You may have met Professor Lionheart, but you never met the man he was before Salem found him.
Yang: Look, we're supposed to be in this together. You can trust us! We're not gonna turn our backs on you.
Ozpin: Do you really think Leo was the first?!
Everyone looked at each other in silence.
Ozpin: That he didn't say those exact same words to me? I'm sorry, but you have to understand that my behaviors are backed by experience. I'm not saying that I have reason to think you will betray me. I'm saying that I have reasons for the things that I do, the secrets I keep, the reason I...
He stopped and looked around.
Ozpin: Where's the Relic?
Ruby: Right here.
Ruby held out the Relic.
Ruby: It got scattered in the crash.
Ozpin: Please, hand it over.
Ruby: So all those times you talked about having faith in humanity, that was just for everyone else?
Ozpin: That's not what I meant to suggest. Miss Rose, the Relic is a powerful item and I simply feel as though it is my burden to bear.
Ruby: But, you said it couldn't do anything right now.
Blake: Why does it matter who carries it?
Ozpin: I need you to listen to me-
Ozpin tried to grab the Relic out of Ruby's hands, but he stopped and tried to move.
Qrow: Oz?
Oscar: Hurry... He's... Trying to stop you!
Yang: Stop her from what?
Oscar: He's afraid... You'll find out what he's... Hiding!
Ozpin is still hiding stuff from us? I thought we went past all this. Oscar fell down to his knees. I glared at him. If Ozpin is still keeping things hidden, then I want to find out what it is.
Oscar: Her name is Jinn. Say her name to summon her.
Ruby: Her name?
Ruby looked down at the Relic. It started to glow a blue color.
Ruby: Jinn?
The falling snow started to slow down before stopping completely. The Relic floated out of Ruby's hands. Blue smoke came out of the Relic and formed in a big woman. Her hair and skin being a blue color and her body is covered in golden ornaments. She stretched and looked down at us.
Jinn: Wonderful.
She smiled at us.
Jinn: Tell me, what knowledge do you seek?
(Readers POV)
I landed on the streets. I looked around and I'm in Mistral. It's raining and I'm getting hungry. I saw a woman and walked up to her.
(Y/N): Excuse me miss. Do you know a restaurant nearby?
Woman: Yeah. You walk down this street and take the nearest right.
(Y/N): Thank you.
I walked down the street and took a right. I saw a restaurant and walked inside of it. I saw several people having the same tattoo. A spiderweb with a spider in it. Are these guys some part of a group? I went over to an empty table and sat down at it. I looked around and saw a... Big woman sitting at a table, talking to someone wearing a cloak. The cloaked person stood up and started to walk away. They looked at me and it's Cinder. She stopped in her tracks.
Cinder: What are you doing here?
(Y/N): Looking for someone.
Cinder: Funny thing, so am I. Too bad you won't find who you're looking for in this life.
She raised her hand at me and a small fireball formed. I got up and grabbed her hand.
(Y/N): Salem wouldn't like that if she found out you attacked me.
Cinder: Salem? How do you know her?
Oh yeah. Cinder doesn't know anything about what happened about me and Salem.
(Y/N): If you want, we can talk about it over some food. I'm sure you're hungry as well and from what I can tell, you need to get some strength.
Cinder just stayed silent and sat down at the table. I sat down across from her.
Cinder: Explain yourself.
(Y/N): You may not believe it, but you're looking at Salem's child.
Cinder: Her... Child?
(Y/N): Yep.
Cinder: Then that explains what happened to you during Haven. I thought I was going crazy when your skin, hair, and eyes turned to look just like Salem.
(Y/N): I'm positive my mom would like to have her Fall Maiden back.
Cinder: Then take me to her.
(Y/N): I have things to do that I consider more important than you. I will get those things done first, then I will bring you back to Salem.
Cinder: But-
(Y/N): If you can't wait, then get back to Salem yourself. Think of it as a test to prove that you should be the Fall Maiden. Because if you're too weak for it, than I might have to end you.
Cinder just looked at me. Her face went into rage, but she took a deep breath and stood up, leaving the restaurant.
(Y/N): Now that that's over with... Is anyone going to take my order?!
