chapter 24 : Hanna
I was sitting in the Gryffindor common room studying for the history of magic exam that we had later that week. It was the same time that I should’ve been studying with Pansy, but she had stopped showing up after the incident at Hogsmeade with Robbie. I was surprised that they didn’t get together after what happened with the kiss and all. It was something we all saw coming, even Bella, who said that there did look like some sparks were flying. I sighed with that thought and closed my book. I wasn’t in the mood for studying. I would ace the test anyway. It was easy.
“Hey, I wasn’t expecting to see you down here.”
I looked up from the book and saw Robbie standing over by the door to the boys’ dorm. He didn’t look like the Robbie that I knew, the one that I had believed that I was in love with for some time. He wasn’t looking healthy. Something had happened. I had a feeling that it had to do with Pansy.
“Hey,” I said, smiling at him. “Would you like to join me?” I patted the open cushion next to me on the couch.
He gave me a small smile before taking the seat. I couldn’t help but take him in more deeply now. His green eyes used to be so vibrant. There they looked hollow and dim. His skin was a lot paler than it was. His eyes were bloodshot and had bags under them. He had been crying. I could tell. Poor Robbie.
“So, what’s going on?” he asked with a slight chuckle.
“I should be asking you that,” I said with a sigh.
“Oh, whatever do you mean, dear Hanna? Nothing is going on in my life. I can guarantee you that,” he said, looking away from me.
I put my hand on his arm, which made him look into my eyes. “Robbie, something’s bothering you. I can tell. We did used to date, you know? Did she break your heart?”
“Why do you care anyway, Han? I mean, you’re with Draco now, have been for a while. You brushed me off and ignored me for most of the year. What’s going on now?” he asked the question again.
“Of course I still care, Robbie. I’ll never stop caring. I was just angry with you because you thought that I would come running back to you just like all those other times. It was kind of shallow and very dick-ish. I didn’t even think that you even thought I was like that. Robbie,” I sighed, looking even more deeply into his eyes, “I will care about you until the day that I die. You were my first love and nothing can replace that. Not even Draco.”
“How am I supposed to believe that? You haven’t even tried to let me know that you cared, Han. It’s as simple as that,” he said, getting up. “And yes, she did. It’s none of your business, but yes, she did break my heart. Are you happy now?”
He stomped out of the room and out of the portrait hole before I could answer his question with a ‘no’. I guess he was right on some level. I didn’t do a very good job of showing how much that I care, but it’s not like he went out of his way to do the same. He ignored me just as much as I ignored him. So, I don’t see how he could go around placing all the blame on me. But still…poor Robbie. She broke his heart, but I could’ve sworn that Pansy had felt the same after that kiss. Perhaps I was wrong…
“Hanna?” I turned to see Lavender Brown enter the common room through the portrait hole. “What’s going on with Robbie? I just passed him, and boy, did he look angry. What happened?”
I rolled my eyes. “It’s not like you care.”
She looked at me oddly. “Okay, what’s going on? You sound angry, and you’re never angry. Was it you that he was fighting with? That would make since considering…”
“Oh, just shut it, Lavender,” I spat, turning to see Bella coming down from the girls’ dorms. “Hey, Bells. Are you ready for breakfast? I know I could eat a hippogriff I’m so starved.”
Bella’s eyes went straight to Lavender, ignoring my statement. “What are you doing here?”
She shrugged. “I am in Gryffindor. I’m allowed to be in the common room if I want to, you know.”
“Whatever. So, where’s Gregory these days? Off screwing some girl behind your back like he did with me?” Bella said, flitting her eye lashes in a dumb sort of way. I just rolled my eyes at her. She could be a little too much at times.
“He wouldn’t do that to me. He actually loves me. So, what’s wrong with you and what’s his face? You didn’t seem interested in mine and Greg’s relationship when you two first got together.”
Bella just smirked. “There’s nothing wrong with me and my sexy boyfriend, Blaise Zambini, which you know very well is his name. But, anyway, about Gregory. He told me he loved me too. Did he tell you he couldn’t live without you as well? Has he said it more than usual?” There was a little bit of a twitch from Lavender, which satisfied Bella. “Ha. Looks like the same situation has been placed upon you. Well, I’m sure you’ll turn from it fine just like I did, or you could pretend he’s not doing it and keep him. Your choice,” she chuckled, locking arms with me and leading me out of the common room, “Later, bitch!”
“You didn’t have to do that,” I said as soon as we were out of earshot. “You really crushed her, you know that?”
She shrugged. “Oh, well. When she messes with me, I’ll mess back. I think we’re pretty much even now if you ask me. That was fun though, wasn’t it?”
I shook my head. “No. I was totally embarrassed, Bells.”
“Oh, well. You know you love me,” she smiled as we rounded the corner and saw Blaise waiting outside the Great Hall for her.
I sighed. “Sometimes a little too much,” I said, starting to look around for my boyfriend, who was usually with Blaise. “Where is he?” I asked him.
He shrugged. “I have no clue on this one, but I think you should find him. Something has been bothering him more than usual. You need to talk to him. These past three weeks have been killer with him not seeing you much because of exams.”
I nodded. “I know exactly where to find him then. See you two lovebirds later.”
I sent for my coat first. He would be in the courtyard, where clearing your head was best. With the newly fallen snow, I didn’t want to get sick. I would’ve seen him less than before. I wrapped my black winter jacket around me with my scarf and headed towards the courtyard. I didn’t smile when I saw him because he looked worse than before. His skin was almost as white as the snow and the bags under his eyes were a lot darker. He looked tired and worn out. My poor Drake.
“Hey,” I said, sitting beside him on the bench.
He smiled at me. “Hey, what are you doing out here?”
I shrugged. “Blaise said that you probably needed someone to talk to. So,” I said, playfully bumping him with my shoulder, “do you?”
He sighed. “I do, but I don’t want to lay it all out on you. I’ll be fine.”
“Draco, I’m your girlfriend. I’m here for you no matter what. You can tell me anything, and I wouldn’t judge you, you know that,” I patted his knee.
He shook his head. “I’ll be fine,” he repeated without looking at me.
“Draco,” I whispered, taking his chin with my fingertips and forcing him to look at me. His grey eyes weren’t as bright as before. There was definitely something bothering him. “I love you. I can’t stand to see you like this.”
“I love you too,” he said before pressing his mouth onto mine.
I instantly melted instead of fighting back. He hadn’t kissed me like that before that moment. I tangled my hands in the front of his shirt as it intensified. He tugged on my jacket as he slipped his tongue into my mouth. I was beginning to become very hot in my winter wear. I wanted to tear it off and give in to whatever was going on right then and there, but I couldn’t let that happen. I so didn’t want to pull away from him, but I did anyway. His cheeks were all flustered and his eyes were full of love. He hadn’t let go of me, but I hadn’t let go of his shirt either. We just stared at each other in awe at what had just almost happened. I opened my mouth to say something, but his face screwed in on itself before tears started pouring from his eyes.
“Draco,” I whisperedas he buried his face into my shoulder.
