chapter 17 : Robbie
I saw them lying together in the courtyard. Anger and jealousy instantly flared up inside of me. Hanna had told me that she had met Draco Malfoy in the beginning of the year, but she never mentioned that they were an item. How could she not tell me? I was her ex; her first love.
And I still loved her.
“I see that you’ve noticed as well,” came a voice from behind me.
I turned to see a girl with short black hair wearing Slytherin robes. She had her eyes transfixed on the snogging couple before us. She was touched by this just as much as I was. Was she an ex of Malfoy?
“Are you an ex of Miss Hanna’s?” she asked, her beautiful eyes flitting to mine.
I nodded.
“I’m Pansy Parkinson,” she said, holding out a hand for me to shake, “By the way your eyeing this situation, I can tell that you want her back, just like I want my Draco back.”
“I love her,” I whispered.
She nodded. “I love my Draco very much as well. So, how about you show her your feelings by starting a fight with Draco? Just don’t hit him in the face. His face is too beautiful to ruin.”
I wasn’t so sure that that was the way to handle that situation. It was all so new to me. Hanna had never been with another guy while I wanted her before, and if she was, then it was a cinch to get her to leave the guy. This time was different. How was I supposed to compete with the Draco Mafloy? It wasn’t fair that I had to go up against the hottest, most bad-ass guy in the whole school.
Sigh.
I looked from Pansy over to the ground where Draco was now nibbling her neck. That was what I used to do. He had figured out the perfect spot to make Hanna melt. No wonder she was like putty in his hands. My fists clenched at the thought. I wanted to hit him. I wanted to hit him hard. I wanted to hit him in the face. Why not take out what get’s all the girls going, right? Then I wouldn’t have any competition when it comes to Hanna. She was perfect. She was perfect for me.
Sigh.
“Come on,” Pansy smirked. “I know you want to.”
I glanced back at her. I looked straight into her eyes and knew that she was desperate to get the love of her life back just like I was. I nodded not sure of what exactly to say to emotion that ran that deep. A smile broke out on her face, lighting it up and making her beautiful. Before, she had looked so sad and dark. Now, she was all cheery and full of light. I liked that.
“Don’t hit him in the face though. Okay? It might not be fixable if you hit him hard enough.” She simply glowed as she kissed my cheek. “Thanks, Robbie. I owe you one.”
She ran off with a giggle. I smiled after her and then turned back to Draco and Hanna. There was something about the two of them together that seemed so right, but at the same time, it felt wrong. Draco was prejudiced against muggleborns. If he knew about her, then he would’ve broken it off. Since he’s playing this out, he either doesn’t know or he’s just keeping her around for other reasons. Everyone knows about Draco and his incapability to love or lust for anything that isn’t pureblood and in Slytherin.
“I love you, Draco,” Hanna told him before kissing him and skipping off down the hallway.
Draco got up and walked in my direction. This was it. It was my moment to shine. I couldn’t figure out how to start it at first. How do you even start a fight? I had never done it before that moment. So, I started by walking in step with him. What was I supposed to do after that? He stopped walking and turned to me. With a deep breath, I decked him right across the face, clean left hook.
“What the fuck?!” he yelled, holding his jaw. “What is your fucking problem, man?”
I had expected him to hit me back, tackle me down to the ground and continued the fight. It certainly surprised me when he just stood there and stared at me, a questioning look in his eyes. He had no idea who I was or why I would punch him. I had absolutely no idea.
“Dude,” he said. “Earth to dude. Are you still with me?”
I nodded. “Why aren’t you hitting me back?”
He rolled his eyes. “Is that why you hit me? You wanted to start a fight and try to win so you could tell your friends that you beat the Draco Malfoy? Or are you doing this on a dare? Someone dared you to start a fight with me. Well, if that’s the case, I’m not even continuing this. You know that I’ll beat you, right? A scrawny thing like you has no chance against me.”
“It’s not so I can gloat, and I wasn’t dared,” I sighed.
“Then what is it then? I don’t have all day you know, and I’m not a very patient guy, so hurry the hell up.”
“It’s Hanna, okay?” I managed to say after a few moments of silence and him starting to walk away. “I’m in love with her. We were together but she broke things off with me because of you. I didn’t realize it until today, when I saw you two. I figured that she’d come crawling back like she always does, but you’ve got her wrapped around your finger.”
“This is about Hanna?” he asked slowly. “She never mentioned anything about an ex.”
“Well, I am her ex. We were about to get back together when you can in and swept her off her feet. Do you know how it feels to have a girl taken away from you when you have her right there? When you’re so close you can practically taste it?” I asked, anger building up inside of me again as I kept back the tears.
He shook his head. “Listen, I’ve never had that happen to me, but-“
“Of course you haven’t had that happen to you. You’re Draco Malfoy. Girls cannot resist you. You’re some kind of sex god or something. You have one over on us when it comes to looks, something the girls tend to swoon over,” I said, trying not to sound jealous.
He sighed. “I can’t help that, mate. It was something I was born with, something I wish that I didn’t have all the time. It gets rather annoying.”
“Yeah,” I said sarcastically. “Right.”
“It’s true, but getting back to the point. You’re jealous of me? At least that’s how you’re making it sound,” he shrugged. “No matter, but it’s really not a matter that you should take with violence. Trust me, it gets you nowhere, except for a bloody nose that is. You don’t want that do you?” He chuckled. “Listen, mate – what’s your name?”
“Robbie, if you must know,” I smirked.
“Listen, Robbie, if she’s happy, you should just let it go. I’ve learned that the only thing that really matters is having the one that you love happy,” he smiled thoughtfully.
“If she wasn’t with you, you wouldn’t be saying that,” I accused.
He shook his head. “If she wasn’t with me but was still happy, than I would be happy.”
“Oh, really? What if she was with me? Would you be happy then?” I countered.
He shrugged. “If she was happy, then yes, I would be.”
I sighed. “I guess you’re right. Truce?”
He laughed. “Truce. Robbie?”
“Yeah?”
“I’m sorry for taking her away. If I would’ve known, I wouldn’t have been so hasty in grabbing her up.”
An apology from Draco Malfoy? The Draco Malfoy? That kind of shocked me. From all the rumors that I ever heard about him, he was a narcissistic, cocky asshole. Nothing was as the rumors told. He must’ve really been in love with Hanna. He seemed to make her happy.
And that was enough for me.
“Thanks, mate,” I said with a smile.
He turned to walk away.
“Draco?” I called.
He turned to face me with a look that was a little agitated but friendly all the same.
“Don’t hurt her. Ever.”
He nodded. “I don’t plan on it. Ever.”
