Freezing Rain opened her eyes. Her heart heavy from everything that happened the night before. She walked out of the cave and opened her wings.  Standing at 3 wolves high she marveled at how big they were. The beauty of her wings never ceased to amaze her. She brought them down hard. They created an updraft that threw her into the sky. She continued to pump them until she was above the treetops. Straightening herself out she started to fly. Just then she felt her eyes sting with unshed tears. She closed her eyes tight to stop the flow. Despite her efforts, they leaked through her closed eyelids and down her cheeks. A sob tore through her muzzle. Then another and another.

The betrayal she felt from her mom broke her heart. Then realizing that she wasn't the only natural born winged wolf-that her mother was one too- just made it worse. She had been carrying around this guilt for ages. She couldn't believe her mom would do this to her. Her vision started to get blurry. Freezing Rain angled her wings to a position that allowed her to hover. Then the dam broke. Tears started to run down her muzzle until all you could hear were her sobs.

Blowing Wind got up his heart hammering. Where did Freezing Rain go?  Blowing Wind looked everywhere. Where could she have gone? He rushed out of the cave. He immediately recognized her scent and started to track her. Right before he took off he left a message for Minnow. Blowing Wind looked up and took off.

Freezing Rain's sobs turned into sniffles. Shaking her head to clear her eyes, she let out a big sigh. The kind of sigh that is full of sadness and joy at the same time. Her wings making a relaxing flapping sound. That's when she felt how tired her wings were.

Gods, how long have I been up here? Feels like hours. Freezing Rain angled her body down to the ground and started to fly. She knew that she needed to walk to at least give her wings a rest from flapping so much. As she entered the canopy of leaves she slowed down and stuck out her legs. Inches before touching the ground she folded her wings against her sides and ran a few feet from the momentum. She shook out her whole body before walking little ways back to camp. Her wings resting comfortably on her sides. She looked up at the sun and saw that it was just above the horizon. That's when she realized how worried Blowing Wind and Minnow must have been.

Crap! I didn't even think to consider what me running off like this would do to them. I hope they aren't too worried. Freezing Rain jumped up and opened her wings. She knew she was going to be extremely sore after this but she had to hurry back to camp. She didn't want Blowing Wind to worry anymore.

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Blowing Wind followed her scent as fast as he could. He had hoped Freezing Rain hadn't gone too far. He also didn't want to find out that she had run away from the pack. Just the thought broke his heart. Does this really mean nothing to her? Do I mean nothing to her? How could she just run off like this? Blowing Wind pumped his wings harder trying to go faster. He couldn't shake the feeling that she had done this on purpose. Left him. He hoped and prayed to the Gods that she didn't.  Oh,  Freezing Rain where are you?

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Freezing Rain pumped her wings quickly. She didn't know how far from camp she was but she knew that if she followed her scent she would find it fast enough. Gods, how could I be so stupid? I never meant to do this to Blowing Wind. Freezing Rain tried to not let these feelings lead to more tears but she couldn't help it. A few leaked out of her eyes. Just then she felt her body get a little hotter. Oh no! Not this again! Please no. I don't want to hurt anybody. Freezing Rain whimpered. With just that sound she felt her body cool down. She let out a sigh. I really need to work on my fire ability. I can't just let it keep happening every time I get upset. Maybe I can talk to Blowing Wind about working on it?  With that thought, more tears spilled down her cheeks. Her heart breaking about how worried Blowing Wind must've been. She pumped her wings harder than she's ever pumped them before.  Please please please be ok...

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Blowing Wind took a big sniff of the air. He smiled. She was close. He couldn't wait to talk to her again. He never felt this lost before. He just wanted to gather her up into a hug and place his lips on hers. He just needed to feel her tail wrapped around his. Her fur against his. He knew he had to signal that he was looking for her so he took a deep breath a let out the loudest call he has ever given, "Freezing Rain! Where are you?!"

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Freezing Rain heard Blowing Winds voice calling for her.  Her heart has never felt more full. She couldn't believe that he started to look for her. Wait...what about Minnow? Does she know? Freezing Rain didn't have time to dwell on this. She needed to find Blowing Wind first. She knew what she had to do. She called back.

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

"Blowing Wind! I'm coming! Stay there!"

Blowing Wind smiled. But of course, he didn't do what she said. He tried to go faster. He couldn't. He was going as fast as he could already. He shook his head. He just needed to get to her. He strained his eyes. In this distance, there was a dot that was getting progressively bigger. Could that be...Freezing Rain? He just had to know. Yet calling back wouldn't do anything. He just pumped his wings faster and prayed that was his beautiful Rain. The dot got bigger and bigger until he could see the brilliant blue of her fur. Thank the Gods above. It's Rain.

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Freezing Rain saw Blowing Wind get closer. Her heart jumped into her throat. She couldn't believe it was him. She slowed her wings and noticed that he did the same. She slammed into him with enough force to knock down a tree. She wrapped her front legs around his shoulders and let out a sob. "I'm sorry. I didn't know... I forgot to tell you... I'm so sorry..." Blowing Wind rested his head next to hers. "It's ok. I'm here. You needn't worry anymore. I will always be here. Now, why don't you tell me why you flew off?"

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

As they flew home Freezing Rain told Blowing Wind about what she was feeling and that she just had to get away for a little while. When they landed Freezing Rain brought up a topic she really didn't want to bring up.

"I need you to help me control my fire."

"Rain", Blowing Wind said hesitantly. "I don't know how to help train you. It's one thing to help train Minnow. Quite another to help you control your fire."

"But-"

"No buts. Freezing Rain the only way to help you train is to find more winged wolves. Natural born."

She let out a sigh. "Can't you try? There has to be something that is connected to my flames."

"Well I mean I guess. I do know that it makes you angry so what if you tried to control your anger? That might make it a bit easier."

Freezing Rain nodded. "Well, first you have to make me angry."

Blowing Wind made a face that said he really didn't want to do that. He looked into her eyes and saw how determined she was. He dropped his tail between his legs. He let out a whine. "Fine."

Blowing Wind thought for a second. He knew mentioning her mother might get a reaction so he opened his muzzle and said. "You are just like your mother. Trying to push me and Minnow away. Just like she pushed you away. Kicked you out of your pack."

Flames licked the sides of Freezing Rain. Then it spread like a wildfire up the rest of her body before reaching her eyes. Turning them orange. She let out a growl. "No.I'm. Not. She was a bitch. She treated me like crap."

Blowing Wind backed away before he realized what he was trying to do. He jumped up and yelled. "That's it Freezing Rain! Now take a deep breath and control your anger! Feel that burning sensation across your body but calm yourself!"

Freezing Rain took a deep breath and focused her attention on what she was feeling across her body. The flames licking her felt so natural. So comfortable. She tried to keep the sensation as she let out her breath. Blowing Wind sighed, as she felt herself get colder. She forced herself to think about her mother. Anger raged. Instead of letting it out on Blowing Wind she let it fester inside of her.  She smiled.

"Is this good?"

"Your...still on fire...but you aren't lashing out..." Blowing Wind gawked.

"Yup."

"How?"

Freezing Rain suddenly felt awful. The flames she summoned went out just as quickly as the got lit. "I'm letting the anger fester inside of me."

"Why did you kill the fire?"

"Because! I don't like letting it fester inside of me."

Blowing Wind gave her a determined stare. "If you want to control your fire you have to let the anger fester inside of you. Just until we can find more of our kind."

"Is this the only way?" Freezing Rain collapsed on the forest floor.

"Yes. Don't worry. It'll get easier. You won't feel bad about it after awhile. Also if you are worried about hurting me and Minnow again there's is a lake. We can easily push you in."

Freezing Rain looked up through her droopy eyes. She looked really depressed. Is she ok?  Blowing Wind wondered. I really don't want her to feel bad. He walked over and laid beside her. He entwined his tail with hers and leaned over to place a delicate kiss to her lips. "I love you Freezing Rain. I know you don't like what we are doing but it's for the best ok?"

"I love you too."

Minnow walked out to see Blowing Wind looking lovingly into Freezing Rain's eyes. Her's widened. She knew she shouldn't have walked into what was happening but she was looking for both of them. She tried to back away. Unfortunately, Blowing Wind's ears were extremely sensitive and heard her gasp and hasty attempt to walk away.

"Well good morning Minnow."

"G-good morning Blowing Wind. Freezing Rain." Minnow stuttered. She had no idea what she walked into but she was glad it ended. "Are we going to train today?"

"Of course get into the arena." Freezing Rain replied. "Blowing Wind you ready to battle with Minnow?"

"Hell yeah. Let's do this pipsqueak."

Minnow bounded into the arena. Blowing Wind followed her. Freezing Rain yelled out orders to Minnow. "To the left Minnow! Flank him!" Minnow jumped to the side as Blowing Wind jumped to the space where she was previously.  "Jump on him!" Minnow jumped up on top of him. Blowing Wind's legs gave out from underneath him. Minnow started to claw at him with unsheathed claws. Her wolf controlling her limbs. Her eyes dilated. Noticing this Freezing Rain jumped in and pushed her off of Blowing Wind. "Minnow! Chill! You almost killed Blowing Wind!"

Blowing Wind walked over to them. "It's ok Freezing Rain. I'll be fine. Don't forget I've lived basically the same life as you. I can handle Minnow ripping me to shreds."

Freezing Rain licked his cheek. "I just worry. That is something you can't stop me from doing."

Blowing Wind laughed. "I really wish I could. Sometimes it's just a tad too much."

Freezing Rain pushed him. "Shut up. You love it when I worry about you guys. Somebody has to."
