Freezing Rain walked up to Vladimir. She didn't want to hurt him by saying no, but what if Blowing Wind was right? I could be right too. I'm gonna stick with what my gut says. He stays.

"Vladimir? Come here please."

Vlademir walked over looking very scared and nervous. Are they gonna kick me out? I'm lost and need their help getting back home.

"Yes?"

"We have came to an agreement. You can stay, but the moment you show any sign of distrust or disloyalty we are going to kick you out."

"Ok."

"Good"

"Why are you keeping me?"

"Because I think that all animals are family, we may be different species but we are all still animals and I don't turn my back on family"

He stood there. Taking in the beautiful wolf. He had no idea she was going to be like this. He thought that Freezing Rain would be hard core, that he wouldn't be able to be her friend. She's so kind. I never thought that she would be like this.

"Did you hear me?"

"Huh? Sorry, my mind is somewhere else right now, can you repeat that?"

"Ugh! I said that we are leaving to find a permanent home, you'll have to run because I can't carry a full grown tiger on my back and Minnow is riding on Blowing Wind."

"What if I can't keep up?"

"You can follow our scent. I'm pretty sure tigers can smell animal scents."

"Ok lead the way"

Leaping up into the air Freezing Rain started to look for a new home.

A few hours later Freezing Rain landed. She looked around for Vlademir, but couldn't find him. Where is he? I made frequent stops in the air so that he could follow my scent. There's no way he could have gotten himself lost. Blowing Wind looked over to see Freezing Rain pacing around. Minnow hopped off Blowing Wind.

"Freezing Rain? What's wrong?" She asked.

"Nothing....it's nothing" Freezing Rain replied.

Blowing Wind walked over. "It's obviously not nothing. You are pacing. You never pace."

"Sure I do."

"Freeze, I know you. Known you for two thousand five hundred fifty-five suns. Never in that time did you pace. Ever. Not even when you were stressed beyond stressed. Now tell me. What's wrong?"

"Fine, I'll tell you. I'm worried about Vlademir. I stopped enough times for him to know where we are. There is no way he got lost."

"Maybe he did. Maybe he wasn't fast enough to keep up. Your scent could've gone stale. You never know."

"You could be right, but that doesn't stop me from worrying."

"Just give it time Freezing Rain. Let's stay here for a few days then if he doesn't turn up we can leave."

"Ok"

Minnow looks affronted. "You're not gonna ask me how I feel about this?"

Freezing Rain looks over at her, confused. "What do you mean? I'd assumed you would want to stay. Seeing as you haven't even been here for a full week. You're tired and sore. You would want to relax as soon as possible."

"That is true. But still why didn't you ask me?"

"Because, like I told you when we first met; you are a pup. Pups don't get a say in matters like this. That's just how the world works."

"Why?"

"I don't know, but that's how it has been done for millions of suns."

"That's stupid"

"I know, but you're the omega. The scapegoat for me and Blowing Wind. We would never do that, but still. Pups don't get to decide where we go. Once you learn all the skills needed to become a full member then you but until then you can't."

Minnow looks dejected.

"I'm sorry Minnow so very sorry. That's how I grew up but these kind of habits are hard to get rid of." Freezing Rain looked sympathetically at her.

"It's ok"

Freezing Rain looked over at Blowing Wind, who was silent through this entire thing. She was surprised he didn't butt in like he usually does. He's the peacekeeper, but he also knows when to pick his battles. Blowing Wind knew that this was a bad time to defuse the situation. Minnow had to get this out.

"Can I talk to you? Alone?" Freezing Rain asked him.

"Yeah sure." He replied.

"Wait! What should I do?" Minnow called after them.

Freezing Rain looked over at Minnow. She shrugged. Then all of sudden she felt a little warmer. She started to pant.

"Anyone else a little on the warm side or is just me?" She asked, shaking the sweat off of her paw pads.

"No, it's just you." Blowing Wind and Minnow said at the same time. Blowing Wind had an idea of what was going to happen, and he didn't like it. I don't know if I can stop her. She's only done this once before, and couldn't stop her then.

"Great, glad it's just me. I'm going insane." She replied while trying to stop panting. She found out she couldn't. It was more of instinct made to cool her down. Slowly her eyes turned from the ruby red to a bright orange, and her pupils started to dilate. Then her dirty white fur did something surprising. It started to turn the same color as her eyes.

All the while Freezing Rain started to pant harder. The smell of smoke filled the clearing, stronger than the normal scent of pine that Blowing Wind and Minnow were used to. Blowing Wind walked over to Freezing Rain. He went to rub her muzzle with his when a jolt of pain raced up it.

"Ow! Your muzzle is hot!" He yelped, rubbing it. Freezing Rain turned toward him. Suddenly the panting to keep herself cool turned to a growl. Her eyes narrowed and teeth bared. "Don't. Touch. Me." She growled at Blowing Wind. Confused he walked closer to her. "What's the matter? Freezing Rain you're not acting like yourself."

"Of course I am! This is the true me! I've wanted to tear you apart since I met you in the woods Blowing Wind. You're not a true winged wolf. You weren't born like this. You are a no-fur experiment gone wrong." She sneered. Fire racing up her paws to her torso. "If you never let yourself get caught by the no-furs you wouldn't have to deal with this, but you let yourself get caught. You broke the number one rule all wolves know and follow. Don't get close to the no-furs, or their settlements. Not unless you don't oppose being their..." she turned towards Minnow and muttered "pet."

"Now don't get me in the middle of this!"

"You wanted to so bad to be a wolf. So so bad. You were born a pup and will always be a pup to me. You will never be a wolf." The flames had reached Freezing Rain's head as she padded towards Minnow. Tears filled Minnow's eyes.

"You don't know that! Just because I'm traveling with you now doesn't mean I will always travel with you! I will become a wolf! Just watch me!" she growled back through the tears, just as the flames consume Freezing Rain. All they could see was her eyes. It was like she had become a hellhound.

Blowing Wind glowered at Freezing Rain, or what was Freezing Rain. "Freezing Rain knock it off. You proved it to us that you are dominate and you can control fire."

"Damn it Blowing Wind. I was having so much fun." Freezing Rain whined. "Plus it was nice to play the bad guy for once. There's a lot of stress being the good guy and I had to let it out."

Minnow just stared, eyes puffy and red. She never knew this side of Freezing Rain. She was never mean. Ever. Wait. Did she always think this about me, but was too kind to say anything? No. There's too much good in Freezing Rain to think such things. Right? I have to ask her... just not now. Freezing Rain glanced back over at Minnow. Seeing the tears really hurt her. She tried to approach Minnow but she just backed away. Shaking her head she ran across the clearing into the forest.

"Minnow! Come back! I was just messing around! I didn't mean any of the things I said!" Freezing Rain howled at her.

Blowing Wind looked on sadly. The moment she started to pant he started expecting the worst. He knew that she had a bad experience with fire when she was younger. From that, she started to learn how to control it. After a few days with some mistakes, she attacked and killed the no-furs that started the fire. She has no good memories of fire so that bad feeling explodes forth whenever she calls upon the fire.

"You shouldn't have done that." He whispers to Freezing Rain as she collapses into a pile.

"I know. I was just gonna make a small fire, but then the fire consumed me. Literally. I fear what I said is the hardcore truth. What I think everyday. The things I can't help thinking. I tell myself it's not true, but I still think it."

"Oh Freezing Rain..." Blowing Wind sighed. He knew exactly what this was. Jealousy. Why though? Why is she so jealous? "Freezing Rain, why are you jealous?"

She looked at him, tears filling her eyes. "Because....because she's having the childhood that I could never have. She gets to live in a pack, I was forced out of mine, if not that chased out. Shamed. I....." Tears rolled down her muzzle. She finally submitted to the sobs. Laying her head on the ground she let the tears be shed. She's ashamed of what she did. How can Minnow ever forgive me? I need to learn how to control these flames. Yet, why me? Am I special somehow? Well.. that would make sense seeing as I'm the only natural winged wolf.

Minnow ran through the forest. Tears rolling over her muzzle, then falling to wet the ground. Why? Why would she ever say that? I couldn't just pretend that what she said didn't hurt me because it did. None of it's true but just hearing it confirmed my worst fears. I...I can't trust her. Not anymore. I'm done with her pack. I'm done with her. I never really thought hard about this did I? I miss my owner. I don't think I can go back though. She thinks I'm dead. I guess I can look for a new pack if there's any still out there. If not then I can manage. I've learned a lot this past week, and I should be able to make it out there.

Minnow finally slumped down, out of energy. Who am I kidding? I'm gonna die out here. Between sniffles, she sensed something out of the ordinary. Her own scent, but it was a five thousand one hundred ten suns old. Huh? I don't remember this......

Minnow was running through the forest. The sweet smell of pine all around her. The smooth-pointed leaves and softleaves littered the ground. The warm air slowly turning cold. She remembered her owner call it autumn. She skidded to a stop. Panting she felt the collar around her neck. She was content. She loved these morning runs with her owner. A grin split her face. Her owner laughed. "Oh, how I much I love you little Giszel." She barked. Minnow then took off in the opposite direction......

Minnow broke down in sobs again. She missed her little Giszel, and the bigger Anna. "Oh how she would miss me!" She shook her head to try and get the smell back. All she could smell is the sweet smell of pine, and various other scents. No memories. No Giszel. "Why...why did I ever leave? I just wanted some adventure, now I can't ever go back."

Freezing Rain sniffed around trying to find Minnows scent. It's been almost fifty-three suns since she left. She had decided at first to continue on with the plan to find a new home when all of a sudden a strong feeling of loss mixed with guilt hit her. Just then she resolved to find Minnow. Lost in these memories she winced when a stronger one hit her. No! I can't remember! I mustn't remember! I told myself I would never think about them after they kicked me out.

Five pups were bouncing around in the forestry. White snow tickled the bottom of their paws. A pup with brilliantly white fur pounced on Bark Stream. He rolled over trapping her with his bulk. "Stop! Stop! I can't breathe!" She panted. Eagle Wolf laughed. "Still can't beat your big brother can you?" Freezing Rain rolled her eyes. "I will one day! Just watch me!" Just then her mom called her over, "We have to go the pack's moving." Freezing Rain trotted along with the rest of her brothers.

Tears filled Freezing Rain's eyes. She wondered how her brothers and sister were. They are all grown-up by now. They probably don't remember me, it's been so long. Did Mom ever tell them that I left? Do they even remember or is like a bad dream, easily forgotten for some but not others? I mustn't dwell on the past. I have to find Minnow no matter the cost.

Freezing Rain continued to sniff before she found Minnow's scent among the shrubbery. Freezing Rain sniffed closer pricking her nose on the thorns of the bush. "Ow! What would Minnow be doing here?" Splitting the bush in half with her paws she found a piece of Minnow's fur stuck in the brambles. "What was Minnow doing? Why was her fur here?"

Sniffing it, she found a angry emotion coming off of it. Damn I've never seen Minnow this pissed off before. She's always really happy and outgoing. I couldn't have made her this upset. I understand crying and being a little angry but not fuming mad.

Freezing Rain looked over at Blowing Wind, "Hey, Blowing Wind can you come over here a minute? This something that you should look at." Scrunching his eyebrows Blowing Wind walked over to Freezing Rain. "What did you find? Rain?" He asked when she didn't answer. Shaking her head she looked at him. Tears filled her eyes. "Sniff this." Blowing Wind did as she said. What he found alarmed him. "Why.....what made her this mad? It's like she's out for your blood." Taking another sniff he continued, "For taking her away from her owner." Freezing Rain nodded. "I never wanted to make her that mad. Not even upset. I'm such a horrible wolf."

Blowing Wind looked at her, his husky voice someone very comforting. "It's not your fault. You just need to learn to control that fire of yours. It'll take a long time, but I believe in you. Maybe one day we will find others like you. You can find a teacher to help you learn to control it, maybe to limit it to like your paw or something. I dunno." Freezing Rain looked up at him, tears rolling down her muzzle. "I can't believe I made her so mad. If only I didn't treat her like a pup. She's the same age as me, just doesn't have the same amount of experience." Freezing Rain sat down, defeated.

Minnow peered through the forestry. Days had passed since she had the memory of her Giszel. No, don't think about that. Focus on getting home. Home clearly wasn't with Freezing Rain. I tried. Tried so hard to be the perfect wolf. I'm obviously not a wolf. That much she proved. Minnow looked around. She didn't remember this part of the forest. Everything looked the same to her. There was nothing to point her in the direction of her home. I just have to keep plowing on. I don't care if I keep going in circles. There has to be something that I recognize. She continued walking. Pushing the bushes away with her paws. She walked for awhile praying for a familiar landscape or even a house. Her heart started to race. What if the house was destroyed? It can't have been. I've only been away six hundred forty-eight suns. She can't have left in that amount of time. She would wait for me.... wouldn't she? Oh, Giszel. Just as Minnow thought this she came to a clearing. Her eyes filled with tears as she found her old home. "Giszel!" She barked as loud as she could. It echoed. "Giszel?" She whimpered, her tail went from wagging excitedly to hanging. Minnow started to walk towards her home when she smelled a strange scent. It smelled like Vlademir. But how could it be him? He should still be with Freezing Rain and Blowing Wind. She shook her head. I shouldn't be thinking about them. They bullied me. Made me leave my precious Giszel. She padded over to Giszel's house. When Minnow reached the door she pushed it open with her muzzle. That's weird. Usually, it's locked. She thought to herself. She walked inside. She sniffed around the house trying to figure out why Giszel wasn't home. She came across one of the black-and-white-pee-pads that those no-furs liked to read.

It was a picture of Freezing Rain, with Giszel's picture further down on the black-and-white-pee-pad. Minnow whimpered. She must have had to leave because of Freezing Rain. Those killing claws must have thought that Freezing Rain was dangerous so the no-furs were forced to leave because of her....because of me. Minnow looked down with regret. Why did I run away from her? I was the one who made Giszel leave. I was the one who forced Freezing Rain to faux eat me. I need to find her. I need to apologize.
