The light shined through the curtains and into Gidget's eyes. She yipped and turned her face to block out the sun's light. Her black food bowl was full but was being emptied by herself.
Her owners left early this morning so she was left alone for a few hours. Max and Duke were both still sleeping.
Gidget hopped onto her pillow in the window and scanned Max's apartment. Duke was snoring in his big dog bed but Max was no where to be seen.
Max licked Katie's face and her eyes flickered open. She giggled and hugged him tightly before getting up and preparing for wherever she went when she left. Katie dumped food into Duke's and Max's bowls and left with a wave to Max as she shut the door.
"Oh, I miss her so much..." Max sighed with his head down and tail between his legs."
"Morning Max!" Gidget wagged her tail and smiled.
"So... the guy who walks me is coming today and I was wondering if..." Max started. She tilted her head, listening intently. "I was wondering if you wanted to come?" he finished looking up at Gidget.
"Yes, I will go!" Gidget barked excitedly, "I-if that's ok with you..." she finished with a stutter.
"Great! You have to come over here though. He will be here soon." Max flicked his tail out behind him. Gidget was so overwhelmed with happiness that she forgot that she lived high up and she leaped out her window then through Max's landing with a thud on the floor. She lifted herself up and shook away the pain.
"Gidget! Are you ok?" Max barked in concern.
Yeah, fine. I just forgot how big the jump was." she staggered around trying to look at Max. Her body felt warmth and comfort as Max pushed himself against her and lead her to his bed. Gidget lay in his bed, nursing her front right paw. When she landed, her weight was all on that paw.
A click was heard and then a door opened. The man that Gidget had seen so many times, taking Max and their friends to the park. He pulled out Max's leash and put him on it before grabbing Duke's and doing the same to him. Then, he noticed Gidget.
"Oh, Max. Did you bring your girlfriend?" the man raised an eyebrow. Max woofed awkwardly but sat, waiting. Then the man dug an extra leash from his bag and leashed Gidget. The leash was pink and had a few plastic diamonds on it.

Chloe, Buddy, and Mel were all leashed up and sitting on the steps waiting for the dog walker. Chloe liked to tag along every once and a while but never got leashed. Today, Tiberius had also joined them. He was gliding over head, most likely looking for something to eat.
The man started the walk and Gidget seemed to be bouncing along the sidewalk. Mel was vibrating the whole way and Buddy just walked normally. Duke was walking in the back with his tongue sticking out and Max walked in front with his head held high.
"Max, you brought your girlfriend?" Max jumped and sighed.
"Oh, Chloe. You scared me," Max explained, "She's not! She's just a friend." he finished quietly. He looked down at the cement and smiled.
"I think you want more." Chloe laughed and slowed down to walk next to Buddy. Max thought for a moment. Did he want more? Did he just want to be friends? From the way he was acting it seemed like he wanted more...
