Chapter 1 - Visiting
Max sat on his bed and yawned. Katie, his loving owner, stretched her arms out and then approached him. She reached down and scratched him on the head before preparing his food in his bowl. The shiny tin bowl had the name "Max" carved on its cold surface.
Max bounded over to his food a ate gratefully while Katie started on her own meal. Max knew that she was going to leave soon, she did everyday.
"I almost forgot about Duke!" Katie laughed as she poured dog food into his bowl too. The big furry dog was still sound asleep in his brand new bed.
Meanwhile, Gidget had found a spot in her owner's lap after eating a filling meal. Her owner held a red and gold colored book in her hands and seemed to be focused completely on it.
Gidget closed her eyes for what seemed to be a few seconds but was awaken by her owner tapping her and kindly asking her to jump down. Gidget obeyed but knew what was coming next. Each of the people she cared about patted her on the head before walking out the door.
A scrape could be heard to Gidget's right. She glanced over and some someone she had hoped to see. Max.
Max watched Gidget run across the white carpet in her apartment. She jumped onto her usual pillow and said, "Hello Max!"
"Hey Gidget! Got any plans today?" He replied.
"Not really. You?"
"I was hoping I could visit your p-place today actually..." Max stuttered.
"Your gonna leave me? What do I do alone?" Duke whined.
"Oh, maybe go meet Chloe." Max answered and watched Duke grumpily climb into his bed.
"Well that's alright with me!" Gidget said with butterflies fluttering in her stomach. "You can come over now." She added before he walked away.
Several minutes later, Gidget was wagging her tail playfully in front of Max who had just arrived only a moment ago. Max gave an awkward smile before looking around at the white and black colored apartment.
"I-I can show you around!" Gidget squeaked.
"Yeah, sure..." Max nodded in agreement as he followed her down the hall and throughout the house.
The two small dogs sat next to each other after the tour and talked just as anyone would.
"So one time, I ran after a ball and fell on my head!" Gidget said with a giggle.
"Clumsy." Max teased.
"Hey! Who saved you from being straggled by an alligator?" (Alligator, crocodile, whatever) she retorted.
"Fine. You got me. If it makes you feel better, I fell off of the couch as a puppy." Max winced at the thought.
"I'm sure I did too. Dogs are small as puppies," Gidget replied, "Although, I'm still small..."
"That's ok! I am too! We have our advantages, like, bring able to slip into smaller hiding spots!" Max tried to comfort her but failed with a frown plastered to Gidget's face.
Max got up and moved closer to Gidget so that their tails could touch if they wanted. She didn't flinch away at his sudden movement.
"Is that a touchy subject? I'm sorry. But there's another perk, we're cuter," Max smiled at Gidget with his last attempt at cheering her up, "we can get food easier because of that."
Gidget seemed to perk up after that but Max made sure they kept away from that specific topic. The two talked together for quite some time before Gidget asked, "Max, have you ever thought of having a relationship?"
His face heated up and he was thankful that he had fur so she couldn't see him blushing.
"Er... I never really thought of that, no. Why?" He asked with suspicion.
"It's nothing." Gidget said. She looked out the window and smirked before she started daydreaming of her and Max becoming mates.
After a while someone nudged her and returned her to the real world. Max had a worried look on his face.
"You ok? You've been spacing out for awhile..." He asked with a soft voice that made her tingly inside.
"Yes, I'm ok."
"I have to get home before Katie does!" Max woofed hurriedly, "Goodbye Gidget!" The red and white dog left Gidget's apartment as quickly as he had come; and just like that, her perfect day ended.
