☺︎︎ Chapter Sixteen

Another few weeks later, it's all been the same. Including Jeno's so called "black eye" that Jaemin was sure of going away sooner or later.

Now, because of this, Lucas wouldn't stop bothering his mysterious friend, who was their basketball captain's best friend's soulmate, saying "I told you so" over and over again everyday.

Not only was he the only one annoying Jaemin, but even Jeno's own friends as well. Especially Haechan.

Haechan couldn't stop giving him looks (mostly daggers through his soul, if he even has one) at his way everytime they were somewhere around each other.

Mark wasn't a total bother like the other two, but he was still... Eh.

He gave looks as well, glancing at Jaemin whenever he can, giving warning looks at him when Jeno is talking to him and he decided to be an asshole.

It was really bothering him, especially when Mark literally said "even if it's just for tonight." And look where they are now. Few weeks in and he's still being supervised like a child.

Today was no different.

Except, Lucas was absent because he got a cold from his cousin, who got it from their mom, who got it from her patient since she's a doctor, who got it from their mom, who got it from the rain.

Yes. That had happened to author over here.

Anyways, Lucas wasn't here, not here to participate in class and in basketball practices, and not here to bother Jaemin again, for the meantime.

But the latter doesn't know.

If you're curious about what happened a few weeks ago, yes, Jaemin did walk Jeno home safely.

He only walked him to the entrance to his apartment building, though. Saying he can't go inside when Jeno asked if he wanted to stay for a bit since it's still raining.

It took a while to leave though, the brunet couldn't stop rambling and worrying if his soulmate is going to be A-Okay in this current weather.

But luckily, for Jaemin atleast, once Jeno was about to grab his wrist and drag him upstairs to his small apartment, the rain was starting to stop. Now tiny droplets were falling on the ground.

So, without further a do, Jaemin had stoically excused himself to go home as he mumbled a small 'good night' to the younger who smiled at him. Again.

Yeah, that was all that had happened last time. Oh, and Jeno's friends doesn't know about it yet.

Why? Because the brunet was keeping it for himself for a moment just to cherish it as he waits for the right moment to share the story to his friends.

Also because Haechan is most likely failing one or two of his subjects and Mark is busy with the school basketball team. Jeno doesn't want to intrude.

And that's another reason why he's going to the back of the school building, like he always does to meet Jaemin, alone. For the first time, actually.

He had excused himself from watching Mark scolding the members to focus and quit playing around without any goal, also tired of Yuta throwing the ball everywhere and hitting people. His arm speaks for itself.

Haechan was in another talk of one of his teachers, probably about another subject he's about to fail. It's literally not his fault that the teacher isn't teaching well.

He told both of his friends he'll be going home first, and they could come over at dinner if they wanted to. And he even offered to help Haechan with his subjects he was "struggling" at.

But he didn't tell them he'll be meeting Jaemin first, since they've also expected him not to because Lucas isn't here.

Sucks for them.

Turning around the corner, he smiles when he spots the dark haired boy sipping on some raspberry juice again.

Jaemin was leaning against the wall, as always, and was scrolling through his phone. His movements paused for a second and he pulled away from the straw with a click of his tongue.

"Why are you here?" Asked, annoyed as he looks up to meet Jeno's slightly shy eyes.

The brunet had his head poking out shyly from the wall, revealing himself as he walks towards the elder with a wave. "To meet you!"

"Well, you've seen me. You know the drill."

"I can't go home yet, if that's what you're talking about." Jeno comments, glancing at the elder's arm to his hand for a split second before looking away.

"And why not?" Jaemin asked, standing up straight as he pushes himself with his resting leg away from the wall.

The brunet shrugged, "Mark and Haechan aren't done with their schedules. I'll be alone." He said.

"Ask Lucas."

"Lucas hyung is absent."

"What? Since when?" The mysterious boy huffed, knitting his eyebrows together in confusion.

"Just today, I don't know how many days long will he be absent for, but he got a cold from his cousin." Jeno explained, fiddling with his fingers.

"And why didn't he tell me this, I swear that idiot is really annoying me to the point I want to feed him to the wolves." Jaemin muttered under his breath.

Jeno widened his eyes at the sudden aggressive words, but chose not to comment on them. "You can go home by yourself, you're not a kid anymore."

He snorts at the elder's words aimed towards him, placing his hands on his hips as he rests himself on his side. "You called me a 'kid' before, Jaeminnie." He said.

The dark haired boy huffs, "because you act like one. Now quit acting and go home already." He retorts.

"That sadly doesn't make sense, Jaeminnie." Jeno giggles, "but again, I really can't." He repeats.

"And why?"

"Because I'm going to get an earful from Mark hyung telling me the dangers of the world and how it's so risky for me to walk out alone." He elaborates.

Pondering in thought for a moment, Jaemin sighed deeply in annoyance. Walking towards the younger and making their eyes meet as he faced those shining dark brown irises while Jeno stared at–

"Let me walk you home then."

"Really?" The brunet exclaimed, eyes wide and shiny like stars.

Rolling his eyes, Jaemin hums and walks pass him with his hands tucked in his pockets, "just because I have somewhere to be right now since Lucas ditched on me."

Turning slightly to face the brunet who was still staring at him, he huffs. "Hurry up before I leave you here."

Giggling, Jeno catches up to the elder with happy skips of his own, his smile as wide as ever with his cheeks heating up from the familiar close distance.

It wasn't as close as before like in that specific rainy day moment, but still, his stomach was being all giddy again.

"My dear soulmate, you have really handsome red eyes."
