Forgotten
After that whole thing went down, Kana kinda just faded away in people's minds. Later on, it's like she wasn't even there anymore, at least not much. But in the family, Hana still remembered the girl.
So, in the summer of 2023, Hana officially finished up 2nd grade. The old school, filled with a bunch of memories, got knocked down and was being fixed up. There was this dodgy well there, so they decided to put it back and turn it into a playground for the kids.
"Hana, they're putting that well back, huh? I used to see you bringing Kana there. Doesn't it bum you out?"
On the sidewalk, Ren and Hana were walking, talking. Ren's Hana's buddy, lively and cute. She stuck by Hana through their junior high years, but things got weird for Hana after Kana went missing. She wasn't talking much to Ren, feeling a bit down. But lately, Ren noticed Hana getting more upbeat, and maybe it's a chance for them to get back on track, you know?
"Now, I don't wanna think about her anymore. Those memories suck... It's probably best if I forget about it if I can."
Hana said, her voice getting quite low, carrying that sad tone.
"Sorry about that. Anyway, let's forget about it and try to cheer up. It's been ages since we hung out. You kinda ditched me for most of the school year."
Ren said, all excited, trying to cheer up Hana from the shock.
"Yeah, you got a haircut, right?" - Hana.
"Yep, cute, huh?" - Ren.
"For sure, my friend." - Hana.
"School's starting again, right? I'll be going when they finish fixing up the school. Can't wait!" - Ren.
"I'm just feeling normal, sticking with the same old classmates. It's a bit of a downer." - Hana.
"No worries, I got your back. Trust me! Anyway, we're at my place; you should head home!" - Ren.
"Have a good evening, Ren." - Hana.
As it got darker, Hana had to go past the old school (under construction) to get home. No other way around it. Scared as heck, but Hana gritted her teeth and walked fast. Had to stop, though, 'cause she saw someone by the well, now filled with sand.
In Hana's eyes, she kinda recognized who it was. Walked closer and closer...
The girl she saw vanished, like poof. Hana looked down, saw a little puppet. "Seems like... it's Kana's puppet. Why's it here?" Hana realized it was the puppet her missing twin sister carried around for almost a year. Tears rolling down her cheeks, but then she went over to the debris, dug a small hole, put the puppet there, and walked away.
