What she wants

The next day Nishinoya was woken up by his younger brother, jumping up and down on his bed until he had no choice but to get up for school. Groaning, he entered his bathroom and wondered where he got a big his headache. Rinsing his face with water, he looked at his reflection at the mirror and gasped at the big bruise marked at the side of his forehead. Afterwards, he dried his face with a towel then proceeded downstairs to the kitchen where he saw his mother cooking breakfast for him.

“Oh Yuu, you’re awake. Your friend Ryu went to fetch you today. He’s playing in the living room with Kikura” his mother informed him, busy in preparing their meals.

Nishinoya raised his eyebrow in wonder on why Tanaka decided to visit him early in the morning and went to the room where the wing spiker was said to be. “Ryu, what’s up?” he called him, watching his little brother attack his friend’s back.

“Noya-san – whoa, I didn’t know it would be that nasty” Tanaka flinched after seeing the bruise implanted on Nishinoya’s face. “Does it still hurt?” he asked.

Nishinoya caressed his face. “It’s a bit sore” he replied. “Hold on a sec, how did I get this?” he asked, completely forgetting what happened last night.

“I guess she gave you a bit of amnesia” Tanaka scratched his head and sighed. He put Kikura down first before explaining what happened last night. “You passed out last night right? When you woke up, Raiden was already awake and brought a bottle of beer with him and was forcing everyone to go drink with him. Of course no one dared to because of the Ronin’s presence but when he saw you sat up, he immediately shoved the bottle into your mouth, urging you to drink”

Nishinoya’s jaw dropped. Don’t tell me – “You got drunk” Tanaka finished for him with a serious tone. “WHAT SERIOUSLY!?” he hollered loudly that got his mother yelling him to shut up and not cause noise early in the morning.

“Nii-san, who’s Rayen?”

“It’s Raiden”

“Don’t introduce that guy to my brother!!!” Nishinoya shouted only to be scolded for the second time this morning. He stiffened and let his brother leave the living room while he and Tanaka talk. “What else happened?” he questioned about the intoxicated events of him and Raiden.

“Well, you two were causing trouble… and you started introducing yourself to Kodama-san as Ronin’s future husband, then you tried to kiss Ronin and there” Tanaka paused with a gulp.

“She punched me, didn’t she?” Nishinoya finished, assuming that the bruise on his face was his fiance’s fault. Sighing, he just focused on getting ready for school by taking a quick shower then dress up, skipping breakfast since Tanaka was already there to go walk with him to school.

His mother gave him a bento, kissing him on the head for goodbye. “See you later mom!” he waved goodbye.

“See you, Mrs. Nishinoya!” Tanaka bowed as the two proceeded in walking to school. “Your mom seems very young” the wing spiker commented after they were a few feet away from Nishinoya’s house.

“Oh, so you noticed” Nishinoya replied. “She and my dad got married at a young age so yeah” he informed his friend casually, putting both of his hands behind his back.

“I see” Tanaka nodded.

The two of them arrived at school with Shina waiting for them at the school entrance. Nishinoya became weary on what torture she was planning to do to him and quickly hid behind Tanaka when he saw her approach them like a mad man.

“You…” she spoke, her bangs covering her face. She abruptly pulled Tanaka by the collar, shoving him away and grabbed Nishinoya’s shirt, pulling him up close to her face to whisper this to his ear, “You’re coming with me to the hospital later. Don’t bother attending practice” she hissed before letting him go and head to her classroom.

Nishinoya’s soul almost got out of his body if only Tanaka didn’t shake him back to his conscious. “RYU! IS SHE GOING TO PUT ME IN THE HOSPITAL NOW?!?!?!” he panicked.

“Relax!! She simply meant she’ll drag you along in visiting Kodama-san!!!”

“Idiot” Shina muttered as soon as she sat on her seat, dropping her bag on her desk with a loud thud. Kageyama, who was sitting beside her, gave her a glance, leaning his cheek on his palm, “Who? Noya-san?” he assumed since he’s the only one that she always insulted ever since she started to go to Karasuno.

Shina sent him a dagger which he’s probably used to by now and paid no mind that he angered his classmate. “I heard he and Tanaka-san visited your grandmother yesterday. How’d that go?” he inquired.

“Chaotic” was the only word Shina said to summarize all the happenings of the imbeciles’ visit. “I’m going to make him visit her again later” she added, pulling out some notebooks from her bag and took Kageyama’s notes from his desk which he didn’t mind.

“Why?” Kageyama asked, handing her some hand-outs she missed. It was normal for them in lending notes to each other since Fujita made them promise to help each other out in academics.

“Gina requested it. I don’t know why though” Shina shrugged and started to scribble notes. She’s still managing to maintain studying like this because of Tamotsu watching her closely if she slacked off in school. She hates it though. She remembers her middle school day that makes her puke the life out of her.

“Maybe she wants to meet the guy who proposed to her granddaughter?” Kageyama guessed.

“Shut up before I choke you with your own notes” Shina sneered.

“Ungrateful” he breathed out.

“Thank you” Shina sarcastically remarked and returned his notebook to him. Kageyama rolled his eyes at him, shaking his head. As the two interacted normally, Fujita smiled from outside where she was watching her two students through the window.

Even if it’s just one, at least you made a friend. She thought proudly before entering her class, starting her homeroom class.

“Shina!!!” Nishinoya came dashing towards Shina that lunch break. As their distance decreased she readied her fist once more but then remembered the bruise she gave him already, so instead of launching a punch, she simply tripped him. “Ow!”

“What do you want now?” Shina quirked an eyebrow, leaning on the wall. Nishinoya immediately stood up from the floor and faced her. With that, she grabbed hold of his cheeks, causing them to puff then turned his head to the side to check up on her masterpiece – or bruise that displayed on Noya’s head. “Does it still hurt?”

“Eh?” Nishinoya yanked his head away, rubbing it. “A bit…”

“Good” “What does that mean?”

Shina blew at her bangs and slid open the window there at the hallway. “Don’t even think about jumping again!” Nishinoya berated before Shina could even lean her arms on the frame.

“Tch, bastard. I’m not planning to!” she yelled at him. After the two of them calmed down, Nishinoya soon joined her in staring up the sky. “It’s peaceful up there huh?” Shina uttered as her hair swayed along with the wind brushing it.

“Yeah” Noya agreed and took a glimpse of her. There are times I see her looking stressed all the time, but there’s also moments like this that I see her at peace. The look on her face made him smile. It’s nice to look at… she looks beautiful. Realizing he was staring, the libero shakes his head out of his trance and looked away from the Ronin who didn’t notice his gaze. “Uh, by the way, Shina-” he cleared his throat to push away the awkward vibe he felt.

“What?” Shina asked, not looking at him.

“Why – Why are you letting me visit at the hospital again? I mean, after what happened yesterday…” he was skeptical in mentioning the ruckus he brought.

“I’m not letting you. It was Gina who requested to see and talk to you. I don’t know why though” Shina cut him off, sending him an annoyed glare; Noya successfully reminding her of his debut drunk show. He flinched and avoided her eyes, starting to sweat bullets. “It’s the least I could do for her…” and by that solemn change of tone, she caught the libero’s eyes once more and captured his curiosity. “It’s the least I could do for her… after all I’ve done…”

“Huh?” Nishinoya stared at her with curious eyes. He felt the sudden change of air around them. He felt the Shina’s concern for her grandmother but didn’t want to show it to others. At that time, he wanted to hug her and tell her it’s going to be alright, but the only limb that move from his entire body was his hand that made its way on top of the girl’s head, ruffling her (now) brownish-red hair while sending her his charismatic signature smile. “It’s alright. I’m sure Gina-san knows you didn’t do anything that would harm her. Even though you don’t say it, she knows you love her, Shina-san”

Shina just stared at him with blank eyes, but behind that, she grew a bit of admiration on how this punching bag of hers thinks. She huffed, slapping his hand away and glanced back at the sky. “Weird. I’ve been told the same thing before” was her only response to that.

“Eh?! Already?!” Nishinoya reacted with his eyes whitened. As the two talked, Takeda who was about to pass by saw them together and stopped himself before he was seen by the two. Shina had clawed Noya’s head once more with him shouting a long, which the teacher considered a normal conversation between the two.

Just watching the scene made him smile, It’s true that you’ll do anything for your grandmother. He thought and remembered what the old woman said to her granddaughter that night when they left her hospital room.

“He’s such a sweetheart. Make sure you make friends with him, alright?” Gina smiles playfully at her granddaughter who frowned in return.

“No way” she declined. “He’s such a nuisance”

“But he said he’s going to be your future husband” the old woman teases. “I want to get to know him better. Kindly bring him here again”

“Basing him from what Tanaka-kun said, I guess Nishinoya-kun will be skipping practice for today” he thought, rubbing his chin. When he heard Nishinoya scream, it was a cue for him to interrupt their conversation before Shina could break more bones. “Shina-san, Gina-san wouldn’t want you to introduce a fractured friend, would she?” he reminded, bumping into the scene.

“Take-chan, help!” Noya cried as he was trapped into Shina’s torture lock. The girl clicked her tongue, letting him go and avoided eye contact. “Stop mentioning her to make me stop torturing him!” she grumbled.

“Sensei wouldn’t mention her if you didn’t beat me up!” Noya spat. “Ow!”

“Shut up already, I get it” Shina popped a vein, for once, showing a weakness that only Takeda and Nishinoya knew about.

She’s afraid of her grandma, she’s such a kid. The two black heads thought at the same time.
