I woke up beside Cassidy in the early hours of the morning. My heart was beating fast in my chest as I stared at her. I'd kissed Cassidy. I'd kissed Cassidy. Holy shit, I kissed Cassidy.
I didn't want to wake her because she was lying so peacefully, but I had to because I knew she was going to flip her shit when she realised we'd slept there all night. Her dad would probably be mad at her. My mum was going to be worried too, but I didn't really care. All I cared about was that I kissed Cassidy.
I kissed her and that's all I'd wanted to do before I left for America. And as I realised this, I got up and slipped away into the dusk. I was still on an odd sort of high from the kiss, even though it was hours ago. it was just a fucking kiss, but even sex hadn't felt as good as it felt to kiss Cas. I upped my walk to a jog and was back home fairly soon. I pushed the door shut gently, and snuck upstairs to my room where I got roughly three hours sleep before my mother woke me up.
"Did you have a good sleep, honey?" mum asked cheerily.
"Uh, yeah," I stuttered, pulling the covers over my face and hoping she'd let me get a little more shut eye.
"Come on, darling, get up, you've got to finish school by the end of the month," she said, making my bed whilst I was still in it.
The familiar tight feeling returned to my stomach that kissing Cassidy had somehow abolished and I nodded glumly. I trudged downstairs, still in my pyjamas, and was met with Rick, who was sitting at the breakfast bar eating some bran flakes. He nodded at me in acknowledgement when I entered the room then returned to his newspaper.
Mum came thundering down the stairs, grabbing her bag and shoes. "I'm going out to meet Liz, do you two need anything?"
I shook my head and Rick yelled, "no, thanks," so mum slipped her shoes on and walked out of the door.
This left me and Rick in an awkward silence, the only noise coming from him chewing his bran flakes with what I thought was some passion. he placed the paper down on the breakfast bar, rolling it up. He cleared his throat and met my gaze.
"Where were you last night, Calum?" he asked calmly.
"I- um, I wasn't anywhere, I mean, I was in bed," I stuttered.
He chuckled lightly. "I'm an insomniac, Calum, do you know what that means?"
I nodded, realising I was busted. "You're not my dad, you can't do anything," I mumbled, even though I knew perfectly well he could.
He smiled slightly. "I know, and I'm not going to do anything. I just want you to tell me where you were."
I stared at him. "I was at the skate park with Cassidy," I said, before I could stop myself.
"Ok," he nodded. "What are you doing today?" He changed the subject randomly.
"Um... I don't know?"
"Why don't you go to the mall," he said, sliding me a note from his wallet.
I looked at him. "If you're trying to bribe me to like you, or something, it won't-"
"Calum," he cut me off. "bribery always works. I have two kids of my own; trust me, I know."
I nodded, took the money and went upstairs to get dressed. On the way up, I dialled Michael's number.
"Hello?"
"Want to go it shopping?" I asked.
"Can Luke come?"
I rolled my eyes. "Sure."
"Okay," he hung up and I ran upstairs to get changed, texting him when and where to meet me.

An hour or so later I was walking round the mall with Michael and Luke. Fortunately they weren't the kind to be mad on PDA (the same as me) so it made everything a lot less awkward. I still felt like I was majorly third wheeling, though.
After a while, Michael got bored. "Shopping is gay," he whined.
"Like you."
"No," he argued, "I'm bisexual!"
"I'm gay," Luke replied. "and I was offended by your comment."
I rolled my eyes mentally at their bickering. It was cute, I guess, but it was annoying too. We decided to go to JD partly because I wanted to buy some new trainers with my money and partly because Michael wanted to prove he wasn't gay (apparently JD was a very not gay store, which of course 'offended' Luke again). We walked down the shoe aisle. Whilst I was looking at the trainers, I spotted a familiar face.
"Hello, Calum!" Cassidy's sister, Rachel, waved to me. "Cas!" she yelled.
Cassidy came round the corner and I almost died remembering how if left her this morning. She looked up at me and her face flushed.
"Hi," she said.
"Hi."
We stood awkwardly until Luke and Michael came round the corner holding a few pairs of shoes.
"We got some pairs in your size but- oh, hey Cas!" Michael waved at Cassidy, despite the fact he was only a couple of meters away from her.
Before Cassidy had chance to say anything else, Rachel seemed to decide JD was boring, or something, and began dragging her out of the store.
"I'll call you," I yelled suddenly.
She smirked and flushed crimson again. "you'd better."
