Chapter 8: Why is fratricide illegal?
Mia's POV:
I didn't catch up on the excitement. But I was nervous. This is my first ever date. The doorbell rang at 5:45 PM. "Someone is eager," commented Wade as he opened the door.
Darren was simply too hot! He was wearing a biker jacket. My stomach twisted. Hormones! You know! Not love, definitely hormones! I knew it was hormones because my stomach did similar flips every time I watched a particular rated Netflix series.
"Are you ready?" he asked.
"Yes," my voice sounded weak.
I got up and walked out. He had come on a bike. Calling it a bike is an understatement, it was a monstrosity.
"Wow! Is that a Kawasaki Ninja-" came the excited voice of Wade. "-400 ABS, 399 cc displacement, dual throttle bodies, 6-speed transmission," Wade went on, looking at the bike as if it was super hot nudity.
His lengthy exclamation was nothing but gibberish to my ears. Yes! I am someone with no interest in what gets the Y chromosomes excited. You might think I am a silly blonde, but truth be told, I simply never cared about these things.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"I thought we could go on a drive on the Pacific coast highway."
"I think you should take the car, it's not safe to drive a bike on the highway," said Sam.
"Are you f-ing kidding me? This beauty has ABS man!" Wade said indignantly before Darren could answer. Turning to me he added, "Mia! It is the safest, just go already!"
I got the impression that if I didn't hurry Wade would be going on a date with Darren.
Darren handed me a leather jacket and a helmet. He started his bike and accelerated, I was seated so precariously that I let out a shriek and clutched him.
We went for a drive on Pacific Coast Highway. The vista was so stunning, hills on one side and ocean on the other, the setting sun. Getting too dramatic isn't my cup of tea, but the view was pretty decent.
We had our dinner at River's End Restaurant with a sea view. We made small talk. By then, it was safe to say that my very first date was a success.
Darren dropped me at Sam's. Me living at Sam's place was something the whole school knew.
"Can I pick you up for school tomorrow?"
Mr. Denty arrived before I could reply. I have been going to school with Sam my whole life, I didn't even own a separate school bag and usually dump my stuff in his bag.
"Hello Mr. Denty," greeted Darren.
"Hi Mr. Anderson, why are you standing outside? Come in," invited Mr. Denty.
Sam's POV:
If only fratricide was not illegal, I would have killed Wade already. I am sure my father wouldn't mind. We can be rid of this annoying lunatic.
Darren came looking like a male God. If I were a girl I would have kissed him already! Yes, this is me who is thinking about it. I don't hate the author for making me say this, but damn it all! He is hot! And he arrived riding a Ninja 400 latest model for crying out loud!
It seemed too plausible that Wade considered making out with Darren. He couldn't shut up.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I shouted at Wade.
"Man! How can you call a Ninja not safe!"
"Do you think that is my concern?"
"Well! It's Ninja man! I can't stand you insulting it."
"I thought you were helping me!"
"Oh! Yes! Got carried away."
"Just stay out! I'm warning you!"
"I am sorry, we have no time to waste, we need to prepare our battlements."
"I said 'Stay out'."
If I stayed one more minute with Wade, I would definitely kill him. I walked into my room resigning to lie down, only to find a pile of Mia's clothes on my bed.
I was in no mood to clean up. I missed Mia. Rather, I tried to climb the bunker and lie on Mia's bed. But soon I had to give up as the whole bed tilted dangerously every time I started to climb. Sighing heavily I started folding her clothes.
I heard Mia's voice. The clock had just struck 9:00. Darren did deserve credit for his decency.
Mia and Darren came in with my dad.
"Did you kids have dinner yet? You should join us, Mr. Anderson," said my dad.
"We had dinner, Mr. Denty, please call me Darren."
We shared kitchen duty, Mia excluded. Not because she wouldn't cook. She is an enthusiastic cook, but that was just it! Enthusiastic. She doesn't have an ounce of cooking skills. Even with all my tolerance, I never managed to eat her food. So we limited her kitchen work to cleaning and on some bad occasions- reheating. She screwed even that most of the time.
"I would like to drive Mia to school tomorrow. I promise to keep her safe," said Darren with such intensity that my dad looked taken aback. It sounded as though he was asking Mia's hand in marriage. Shit! This guy is intense. My dad cleared his throat multiple times before answering.
"I don't mind if Mia is ok with it."
Mia was scratching her nose, a clear sign she was nervous.
"I have to stop by the beach house tomorrow, I have some things to collect. Maybe after my audition?"
