Chapter twelve
"Breakfast's ready." Mom called out and I groaned softly. I stared back at the laptop on my lap. I was busying myself with work and hadn't realized how much time had passed. Especially how hungry I was.
Giving in to my urge, I pushed my laptop aside and led myself to the dining room. My heart warmed, when I saw the meal in front of me. "Eggs and bread. My favorite food for breakfast. Thanks, mom."
Mom grinned. "I know. That's why I made it."
"I wanted to cook our breakfast. I'm here to help you around, as much as I can."
"Help me out later then. For now, I don't mind doing this." Mom lingered her gaze on my face, before loafing herself on the chair.
Dad walked in, settling himself in a dining seat. "My favorite ladies are here. That's a relief."
I greeted him and gave him a small hug. "My favorite dad is here. That's a relief too."
Dad chuckled. Amusement danced in the dark hues on his eyes. "Do you have any other?"
I teased him. "Mr. Johnsons' my other dad, but he's not as warm and caring as you are. That's what makes you my favorite."
"At least he has his excessive wealth to make up for it."
Mom laughed. "I hardly doubt it."
Dad nibbled on his food. "I heard Imade's boyfriend will be around till the end of Easter. How's he like?"
I admitted. "He's not worth it."
Mom's eyes popped open. "Really?"
"Let's just say, I want him gone. ASAP."
Dad shook his head. "Is Imade's dad a fan of him?"
"Not in the slightest."
"If you don't like him. You should tell her." Dad pointed out.
"I've tried. It failed."
Mom chimed in. "Well I want to see how he's like. After breakfast, I'm heading over there. Would you come with me, Nara?"
"I'm surely coming. I have stuff to do over there."
Dad retorted. "Me too." We both stared at him amusedly, and he shrugged "I'm intrigued too."
"We'll go together then, as a family. As it should be. It would be fun." Mom's voice sounded chirpy, as she spoke.
I said. "You guys should go ahead first. There's something I should get."
They didn't question me and I was fine by that. I wasn't prepared to lie to them, especially since I actually wanted to get the things I needed for phase two of my plans.
.........
Of course, when mom and dad met Victor, they instantly liked him. Of course, they would. They didn't know the extremely unlikable thing about him They didn't know he was married. The second he turned on his charming side, my parents were immediately hooked. Mom even called him a delight. Since my parents liked him, the Johnsons would have no choice, but to like him though. That was how it worked. Our families always made decisions like that together. We were always so close, that people assumed that we were related. In my mind, growing up, I let myself believe that too. I had no siblings and rarely had family members around. I always saw Imade as a sister, and it hurt to see how life unfairly turned things out for her.
I couldn't help rolling my eyes, as I watched Victor and my parents interact. It was hard not to throw up at the sight of him.
Tife's silky voice, had me turning my gaze to his. He was relaxing in the cushion and dressed in casual clothes. I almost missed the sight of him wearing his three piece suit. It always looked ridiculously good on him. "Roll your eyes one more time, Maybe it would hit the back of your head this time."
"Thanks for the advice." My eyes were fixated on the silver Rolex watch on Tife's hand. A wristwatch I couldn't afford, even if I wanted to.
"You're being too obvious."
I blushed slightly, not completely sure what he was talking about. Did he notice that I was staring at his watch? God, I hoped not. "Excuse me?"
"About your dislike for Victor. It's obvious. If you want to get away with your devious plans, you need to let him believe that you're a fan of his, or he'd catch on really quickly. He's not an idiot. Neither is Imade. Just be subtle."
I scoffed. "Like you are? You want me to pretend to be unaffected by this."
He shrugged. "You disliking him didn't change Imade's mind, so it's pointless right now, being visibly passive-aggresive with him. The last thing we need is for him to figure out the truth."
Exhaling slowly, I hated to admit that he was damn right. I didn't need to give Victor the upper hand. We already had that. I just needed to go on with my schemes and act like I didn't want Victor out of my sight. "How do you do it? How do you act so cool collected, when you know he's a married man who's probably using your sister?"
His eyes turned dark. It was unwavering and he clenched his fist. "Don't ever think that I'm unaffected by this. I hate him, probably more than you do, but I need to be patient. Patience is a powerful tool, when used at the right moment. I'm also holding on to your abilities. Petty tricks might do the trick. Imade's an emotional thinker. When she sees more flaws, than abilities, then she'd end up dropping him off on her own accord. So keep going. Dad still dislikes him and Imade's still uncomfortable by it all. That's a good step to things. What's next?"
My eyes twinkled. "Cover for me. I need to move on with Phase two part one."
His lips curled up. "You're really enjoying this."
"Revenge has a way of making me excited. I'm going up to their room. Would be back in a minute."
Tife gave me a brief nod, and I tiptoed up up the stairs and headed to Imade's room, where she and that scum slept. I turned my head around Imade's mauve painted room and let myself enjoy how wonderfully decorated the place was. I always loved being in her room. It was spacious. Twice the size of mine, and had a walk in closet that was beyond amazing. Her queen sized bed, the 50 inch flat screen TV, and the little dining table for tea, made me always in awe, whenever I entered.
Peeling my gaze from the room, I went straight for what I came for. I smiled devilishly, when I thought of how hilarious this one would be like.
I quietly crawled out of the room and shut the door as silently as I could. Like a deer caught in headlights, I froze when I heard a familiar voice call out. "Nara? What were you doing in there?"
